Queen of England’s horse tests positive for drugs

The Queen of England’s racehorse has tested positive for drugs.

The five-year-old filly, named Estimate – which won at last year’s Royal Ascot meet – was found to have consumed a prohibited substance and opioid morphine in a contaminated batch of feed, Buckingham Palace announced last night (22.07.14).

According to The Express newspaper, Her Majesty – who cheered on the 2013 Gold Cup winner at the race along with Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie – was informed of the news as she celebrated her grandson, Prince George’s first birthday yesterday.

The Queen’s Bloodstock and Racing Advisor, John Warren, has revealed that the British Horseracing Authority (BHA) have found five horses from various trainers which tested positive for morphine.

He said: "I can confirm that one of those horses was Estimate, the five year-old filly trained by Sir Michael Stoute and owned by The Queen. Initial indications are that the positive test resulted from the consumption of a contaminated feed product.

"Sir Michael is working closely with the feed company involved to discover how the product may have become contaminated prior to delivery to his stables.

"As the BHA investigates this matter, including potential links between the different cases, Sir Michael continues to offer his full co-operation."
