Prince Harry to open children’s centre in Africa

Britain’s Prince Harry is to open a new centre to help some of the most vulnerable children in Africa.

The 30-year-old prince will officially launch the Mamohato Children’s Centre in Lesotho in December, which will provide a new base for Sentebale, the charity he founded in 2006 with the help of Prince Seeiso of Lesotho.

The overarching ambition of the charity is to assist the most needy children, a significant number of whom are victims of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the southern African country.

Prince Harry started the charity in the memory of his late mother Princess Diana, and he’s previously said he sees it as a key part of continuing her legacy.

He said: "I really feel that by doing this I can follow in my mother’s footsteps and keep her legacy alive."

In addition to visiting Lesotho, Kensington Palace has also confirmed the prince will travel to Washington DC at the end of October to carry out a series of engagements ahead of the second Invictus Games, which is scheduled for May 2016.

Presently, Prince Harry is based in Africa, where he has been working on conservation projects.
