Britain’s Prince Harry is to attend the Bastion Memorial service in Staffordshire today (11.06.15).
The 30-year-old royal will join the family and friends of soldiers who lost their lives during the conflict in Afghanistan at the service of dedication, BBC News reports.
In addition to Prince Harry – who is set to leave his role in the British Army at the end of the month – 3,500 people are expected to attend the service to inaugurate the Bastion Memorial at the National Memorial Arboretum.
The memorial – which was blessed by the Archbishop of Canterbury at a commemoration service at St Paul’s Cathedral in March – features the names of all 453 British personnel who died in Afghanistan as well as a cross made of shell casings from the original memorial wall in Camp Bastion.
A minute of silence is to be observed during the service, which will also be attended by senior politicians and representatives for the military, military charities and organisations and the UK’s Nato allies.
The service will be followed by a reception for the family and friends of those being remembered and is being hosted by the Royal British Legion.
