Robin Thicke says he has "no idea" what he's doing following his split from Paula Patton.
The 'Get Her Back' hitmaker, who was dumped by the actress after eight years of marriage in February amid rumours of cheating and has poured his feelings into his new album, 'Paula,' admits his efforts to win her back might be a waste of time.
The 37-year-old star told 'Good Morning America' today (02.07.14): "I actually have no idea what I'm doing. I'm just kinda flying by the seat of my pants on this one."
He added: "I just wanted to make something artistic out of a very difficult period.
"When you lose the love of your life you don't have much to hide anymore."
But Robin, who recently claimed he hasn't seen his estranged wife in four months, is prepared to be just friends with the 38-year-old actress in the future.
Asked about the final track about friendship, 'Forever Love,' on his album, he said: "The album... I didn't want it to be all depressing. I didn't want her to listen to it and make her sad only. I wanted there to be moments where she had hope and positivity that her and I can both still have a great life, no matter what happens, and we'll be great friends and great parents."
He also revealed that the idea for his latest music video, 'Still Madly Crazy,' which features children lip-synching the ballad at a wedding, came to him while he was looking at photo albums from their wedding.
He added: "We were childhood sweethearts, so you know she's the best person I've ever met. So I just thought the least I could do would be to devote an album to her."
The heartbroken singer, who has four-year-old son Julian with Paula, also encouraged his fans: "If you've got a good woman take care of her guys."

Ciara instantly knew she wanted to marry Future.
The 'Like A Boy' hitmaker, who got engaged to the rapper on her 28th birthday in October and welcomed their first child, Future Jr., into the world in May, admits she fell in love with him instantly.
The singer told the August-September issue of Brides magazine: "I knew right away that he was different. Now he's my best friend in the world, my partner."
The couple, who started dating in late 2012, are currently planning their wedding and Ciara says it will very modern.
Asked about her wedding dress, the blonde beauty said: "For my wedding, I'm going to do elegance with a little edge."
She added: "There will be five or six [bridesmaids] and two matrons of honour [including La La Anthony]. They'll all wear the same colour, but in different styles to suit their personalities."
The duo, who are close friends with Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, have asked some of their pals to entertain their guests at their reception.
She said: "A few of our friends will sing, and we'll have a great DJ--good old soul mixed with new stuff. You want people to say, 'This is my jam!' "
The couple are keeping their wedding date a secret for now, but Future, 30, previously admitted he didn't want a long engagement.
The producer, real name Nayvadius Cash, said: "We threw a few dates out at each other, trying to figure it all out and make sense. We want the date to be special. We're trying to pick little dates out."

Beyoncé Knowles has fuelled rumours her marriage is in crisis.
The 32-year-old singer, who is allegedly leading "separate lives" on tour with her husband Jay Z, sparked new speculation their relationship is on the rocks by changing the lyrics of her 2006 song 'Resentment' while performing their 'On the Run' show in Cincinnati, Ohio on Saturday night (28.06.14).
During the song, which is about a cheating scandal, she altered the track to reflect the current length of her romance with the rapper, singing: "Been ridin' with you for twelve years. Why did I deserve to be treated this way by you? (sic)"
The original lyric should read: "Been ridin' with you for six years. Why did I deserve to be treated this way by you? (sic)"
She also changed the line, "Like I couldn't do it for you like your mistress could" to "Like I couldn't do it for you like that wack b***h could (sic)."
The couple, who have two-year-old daughter Blue Ivy, first started dating in 2002 before secretly tying the knot in New York City in 2008.
Beyoncé and Jay's marriage has been under scrutiny since footage emerged of the singer's sister, Solange Knowles, attacking him in an elevator at a Met Ball after party in early May, as the 'Pretty Hurts' hitmaker looked on passively.
The trio later released a statement, insisting they had put the incident, which kicked off after Solange allegedly spotted Jay flirting with fashion designer Rachel Roy in front of her sister, behind them.

Kendra Wilkinson is focusing on her children.
The 'Kendra on Top' star, whose husband Hank Baskett has been accused of having a fling with a transsexual, is still living with the former NFL star at their Los Angeles mansion because she is trying to do what is best for their four-year-old son Hank Jr. and six-week-old daughter Alijah.
A source close to the "devastated" 29-year-old beauty told UsMagazine.com: "Her kids are her number one priority. She's doing what she needs to do. She's a tough girl."
The former Playboy model, who married Hank in June 2009, is "doing okay," but is "still in shock" over rumours Hank cheated on her with transgender model Ava Sabrina London shortly before she gave birth to their second child.
The insider said: "She's not sleeping that much anyway because of the new baby [Alijah]."
The reality TV star, who was recently said to have flushed her wedding ring down the toilet, is reportedly still contemplating whether she and Hank have a future together.
But the source said: "They have two kids together, and he needs to help out."
The couple's marital woes came last week after Ava claimed that Hank, 31, had promised to "take care" of her and visited her just two weeks after Alijah was born to give her cash in exchange for keeping their encounter secret.
Ava - who passed a voluntary lie detector test before coming forward to tell her story of a sexual experience with Hank - also said he agreed to pay her $2,000 to deny she ever met with him and he further offered her $5,000 to not talk publicly about their encounter.

Katy Perry is being sued by a Christian hip-hop star.
Flame - real name Marcus T. Gray - and a three other musicians have filed a lawsuit in St. Louis, Missouri against the 29-year-old singer, accusing her of ripping off their award-winning Christian gospel track 'Joyful Noise' for her hit song 'Dark Horse.'
The 32-year-old rapper claims in court documents that Katy, whose parents are extremely religious, hijacked their music, tarnished it with black magic, witchcraft and paganism, and ruined their reputation in the Christian music world because of the imagery that appears in her music video, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch newspaper.
The group, who released their track five years ago, are seeking unspecified damages and want the 'Roar' singer, who is currently on her 'Prismatic World Tour' to be banned from using any form of their music immediately.
Following the success of 'Dark Horse,' Katy was crowned the new RIAA Gold & Platinum Program's top digital artist of all time last week, with 72 million digital singles sold.
The star co-wrote the track with singer-songwriter Sarah Hudson in her native Santa Barbara, California, and previously claimed it was inspired by the 1996 film 'The Craft' for the song, which is "about warning a guy that if you're going to fall in love with me, make sure you're sure because if not, it's gonna be your last."

Robert Downey Jr.'s son reportedly started using hard drugs when he was 12.
The 'Iron Man 3' star - who famously battled substance abuse in the past - accompanied his eldest child, Indio Downey, to the well-known rehab facility Cliffside in Malibu, California, following his arrest for cocaine possession on Sunday (29.06.14), but the 20 year old has allegedly been battling addiction for eight years.
A family friend told the MailOnline: "Indio's been using drugs and hard drugs as well for eight years so there's been a million interventions and conversations and threats and AA meetings and sponsors. The list goes on."
The 49-year-old actor convinced Indio to check into the treatment facility, as he hopes its innovative approach will finally help his son get his life back on track.
The friend added: "Bob not only knows about Indio's struggles, he's tried everything, as all parents do, including kicking Indio out of the family home, followed by boundaries and tough love. None has worked.
"Cliffside may work because it's got an approach that Indio will hopefully not resist. Indio is his father's son. They both don't go for controlled orders about praying to a 'god' for help and the 12 steps, the way Downey sees it, is requiring you to believe in God, and though both Downeys may believe, they don't want it forced on them for sobriety purposes."
Indio isn't happy about being forced into rehab, but the friend added: "His dad's lawyers are insisting in hopes of a plea bargain when court time comes. This means that since Indio is not choosing to get clean on his own but is somewhat forced to, the sobriety may not stick."
Robert, who also has a two-year-old son, Exton, with his wife Susan, released a statement on Monday (30.06.14) claiming his son "likely inherited" his weakness for substance abuse, but added: "There is a lot of family support and understanding, and we're all determined to rally behind him and help him become the man he's capable of being."

Keira Knightley won't return to 'Pirates of the Caribbean'.
The 29-year-old actress played the role of Elizabeth Swann in the first three films in the franchise, 'Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl', 'Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest' and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End', but she's confirmed she has no interest in returning in any future instalments.
Quizzed about the series - which is based on the theme park ride of the same name - Knightley told BBC Radio 2's 'Steve Wright in the Afternoon': "I have no idea, I don't know what they're doing. My time has definitely passed, I loved it, it was an amazing experience but I won't be going back."
Since her and her on-screen love interest Orlando Bloom's departure in 2007, Johnny Depp, Geoffrey Rush and Kevin McNally have returned for 2011's 'Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides' - which also starred Penelope Cruz - and are in the process of making the fifth instalment 'Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales', and Knightley thinks the franchise could continue forever.
She added: "I don't know what they're doing, there are so many piratical tales they could tell, it's a fun franchise, it was a lot of fun."

Lindsay Lohan is suing the creators of 'Grand Theft Auto'.
The 'Mean Girls' actress - who turned 28 today (02.07.14) - has finally hit the video game makers with a civil lawsuit after they allegedly used her image for a character named Lacey Jonas without her permission.
The star's lookalike alter-ego parties at infamous celebrity haunt, the Hotel Chateau Marmont in West Hollywood, "a place where the plaintiff once lived and often frequents", according to the case documents.
According to the New York Post newspaper's Page Six column, the troubled actress is coming after game creators Take-Two Interactive for an unspecified sum of money.
Lindsay has been threatening legal action since December, shortly after the fifth installment of the video game was released, and is annoyed because companies usually pay to copy her likeness.
The legal papers claim the "game features a mission where the plaintiff's look-alike asks another character to take her home and escape the paparazzi" and features a character sporting the same " likeness, clothing, outfits, clothing line products, ensemble in the form of hats, hair style, sunglasses, jean shorts worn by [Lohan]...before the release of the GTA V video game."
The video game cover also strikingly resembles a famous picture of Lindsay in a swimsuit taking a selfie and making a peace sign.
The gaming company has declined to comment.

Robbie Williams was granted the Freedom of Stoke-on-Trent yesterday (01.07.14).
The 'Angels' hitmaker - who is currently on the UK leg of his 'Swings Both Ways' tour - was incredibly "proud" to receive the honour in a secret ceremony attended by his parents, pregnant wife Ayda Field, their daughter Teddy, 21 months, and Stoke-on-Trent Lord Mayor Majid Khan and paid a heartfelt tribute to his home town.
He said: "I can see how much this means to everyone in the room. I can see how proud they are of me and I am incredibly proud to be from Stoke on Trent - no matter how far away I am or how long I am away I am a Stokie...
"It's so surreal to feel I've got this huge honour and I haven't totally taken it in. But it's so poignant for me to have my little girl with me and my wife and my unborn baby.
"This is Teddy's first visit to Stoke-on-Trent. I grew up here, her life is so different to mine. At her age Stoke-on-Trent was my whole world and I dreamed of getting into another world.
"All my dreams came true but as they come true you realise how much you miss the freedom you had as a kid and the safety and security you feel in your own little world. Stoke-on-Trent made me. My humour, my cheeky chappie bit, that's all from here. Cut me and it's through me like a stick of rock."
Robbie also tucked into specially-requested bacon and cheese Staffordshire oatcakes and revealed both his young daughter and his American wife are fans of the local delicacy.
He said: "Ayda loves oatcakes. My mum brings them over to LA every times she comes so we usually have a stock in the freezer. You can't beat them. Teddy loves them too. Her second word was 'duck' which makes her a true Stokie."

Susan Sarandon thought Melissa McCarthy was "brave as hell" while filming her new movie 'Tammy'.
The 67-year-old actress, who plays a hard-drinking grandmother in the film, which was directed by Melissa's husband and co-writer Ben Falcone, claims the star went above and beyond when playing a woman who discovers her husband has been unfaithful.
Asked what Melissa is like, she said: "Smart, brave as hell, so sweet. I think that comes out in the movie. She can do anything, and somehow you forgive her, because she is such a good person, such a sweet person."
And the veteran actress admired the way her co-star worked with her spouse.
Talking about her working relationship with Ben, she added: "As a team, the two of them were very collaborative. I never sensed any problems.
"They'd been working together for a long time already, so this wasn't something new.
"It's not guaranteed that people that are couples necessarily can work smoothly together, but they did."
Susan also twice appeared on Melissa's CBS show 'Mike And Molly' and found her co-star has a "sense of the bigger picture" when it came to directing.
She said: "The Clint Eastwoods, the Sean Penns, the Robert Redfords of the world, they know how pieces have to fit together. They're not just trying to satisfy their ego. And she definitely has that.
"She wants to serve the whole - even though she carried the movie herself. And she has so much energy."
Susan went on to express her amazement at the amount of work Melissa had to put into the show and she feels she has a bright future as a director as well as an actress.
She said: "It's just amazing, physically, what she had to do, and at the same time, would go to the monitor and would notice things and make suggestions.
"And we all would go to the monitor and make suggestions. But I'm sure she'll be directing more in the future."

Neil Patrick Harris is selling his Californian home for $2.995 million.
The 'How I Met Your Mother' star and his fiancé David Burtka have listed the sprawling 4,191-square-foot estate in Sherman Oaks, California, just four years after moving in.
The couple attracted hundreds of potential buyers at an open house event last weekend and have received numerous offers - some of which are even above the asking price, according to the Los Angeles Times newspaper.
Neil, 41, and husband David - with whom he has three-year-old twins Gideon Scott and Harper Grace, born to them via a surrogate - bought the house in 2010 for $2.1 million.
The stars opened the doors to the lavish pad in an episode of Oprah Winfrey's talk show 'Oprah's Next Chapter' and in the pages of InStyle magazine.
The stunning two-storey home boasts six bedrooms and five bathrooms. The spacious garden area also contains a built-in pizza oven, a swimming pool and an outdoor shower.
Neil recently won a Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical for his performance in 'Hedwig and the Angry Inch'.
The star lost 22lbs to play the titular role in the stage production.

Chris Martin is writing a theme song for Britain's Prince Harry's Invictus Games.
The Coldplay frontman is penning an anthem for the 29-year-old royal's international sporting event for wounded service personnel, which is being held in London this September.
The 'Magic' hitmaker will perform the track live in front of an audience of 5,000 gathered on the South Lawn of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park on 10 September as the four-day event kicks off.
Harry, who served 77 days on the front line in the Afghanistan war, has decided to bring the Games to the UK following an inspirational visit to USA Warrior Games last year.
Over 400 competitors from 14 countries are taking part in a number of sports, including swimming, wheelchair basketball, archery and road cycling.
Mayor Boris Johnson commented: "I am delighted that the first ever Invictus Games will take place on London's newest park and in its world-class sporting venues."
The opening ceremony is being broadcast live on the BBC and is being put together by Kim Gavin, the creative director of the London 2012 Olympics closing ceremony.
