Quentin Tarantino intends to retire after his tenth film.
The legendary film-maker says completing ten films and leaving people wanting more "sounds right", although he added that "nothing is etched in stone".
Speaking during a Q&A for his new Western, 'The Hateful Eight', the 51-year-old star was questioned about what he'll do if he's not working in cinema, to which he replied: "Writing plays and books, going gracefully into my tender years.
"I don't believe you should stay onstage until people are begging you to get off.
"I like the idea of leaving them wanting a bit more. I do think directing is a young man's game, and I like the idea of an umbilical cord connection from my first to my last movie. I'm not trying to ridicule anyone who thinks differently, but I want to go out while I'm still hard.
"I like that I will leave a 10-film filmography, and so I've got two more to go after this. It's not etched in stone, but that is the plan. If I get to the 10th, do a good job and don't screw it up, well that sounds like a good way to end the old career."
However, Quentin - whose films include 'Pulp Fiction' and 'Django Unchained' - later added: "If, later on, I come across a good movie, I won't not do it just because I said I wouldn't. But 10 and done, leaving them wanting more - that sounds right."

'Dapper Laughs: On The Pull' has been cancelled.
The ITV2 show - whose first series ran from September 29 to November 3 - will not return for a second season after the host Daniel O'Reilly was caught on film making a joke which referenced the rape of a woman and his television show.
Over 50,000 people signed an online petition to persuade the network's chief executive Adam Crozier to cancel the show - which shows Daniel acting as the character Dapper Laughs, who gives dating advice to men.
In a statement from ITV, a spokesman said: "We have given careful thought to the recent criticism of the character Dapper Laughs, which has focused on his activities outside of the ITV2 programme, whose content was carefully considered and complied.
"We have taken the decision that we will not be considering this show for a second series."
After cancelling the Welsh leg of his comedy tour 'The Full Length', Daniel has addressed the controversy on his Twitter page for Dapper Laughs.
On Friday (07.11.14) he wrote: "I haven't been on Twitter in a while. My timelines gone mad #Bonkers (sic)"
The comedian then shared a screencap of an apology which read: "I know that there has been heated commentary on social media in recent days, online abuse of any kind is wrong. Therefore, I would like to say a few words to make my views clear. Some comedians push the boundaries in the name of entertainment. That means taking risks. But I think it's important that is we over step the mark and cause upset that we apologise. I would like to say sorry to those people who I have upset by my recent comments. I assure them that was not my intention."

Calvin Harris doesn't like celebrity women.
The 'Summer' hitmaker has confessed he won't be dating any more women who are in the public eye following his split from 23-year-old singer Rita Ora, whom he dated for more than a year, in June.
He said: "I don't like celebrity women, nah."
The 30-year-old DJ - who was forced to pull out of his appearance at the 2014 MTV European Music Awards in Glasgow on the weekend following a heart scare - also opened up about his decision to hit back at comments Rita made about their relationship.
The 'How We Do' hitmaker claimed she was "angry" after he banned her from performing her song 'I Will Never Let You Down', which he wrote, at the 2014 Teen Choice Awards earlier this year.
Speaking about their public falling out, Calvin told Capital FM: "You get so many lies stacking up against you, there's a point where you're just like, 'Oh man, I've got to say something'.
"Because it was just like, 'Oh come on, stop it!' So I did that - it didn't really do any good, I probably shouldn't have really done it."
During a radio interview in August, Rita revealed her former boyfriend had stopped her from performing their song and claimed she wasn't surprised by his "last minute" change of heart but admitted it would have been "nice" if he'd let her know earlier.
Calvin hit back on Twitter saying: "You'll only know 1 side of the story RE Teen choice awards because I choose not to talk to the papers about every aspect of my personal life (sic)
"But just know I had a damn good reason (sic)"

Ed Sheeran hired a pub for his own MTV EMAs party on Sunday (09.11.14).
The 23-year-old singer snubbed the official after-party in favour of hosting his own bash, but didn't even turn up to that after his phone died, meaning he was unable to give the details to his friends.
Ed's friend, 'Let It Be' singer Labrinth, explained: "I got a text from Ed telling me to come to his pub. When I asked him what pub he didn't reply."
The 'Thinking Out Loud' crooner instead opted for some quiet drinks at the hotel bar, after he narrowly missed out on the award for Best Male at the ceremony with Justin Bieber walking away with the prize instead.
Nicki Minaj - who hosted and performed at the event, held at Glasgow's The SSE Hydro arena - also avoided the £100,000 party at nighttime hot-spot, The Arches.
A VIP area was sectioned off especially for the 'Anaconda' rapper, but the star decided to head to bed early after an exhausting day of rehearsals and presenting.
A source explained: "Nicki's dancers were already at the party enjoying the free vodka. The staff cleared an area and laid out drinks for her and her entourage. But she failed to show up."
With some of the biggest names in music at the 20th annual event, organisers were reportedly left disappointed when few of the other celebrities decided to attend the post-ceremony bash.
Speaking to The Sun newspaper, a source said: "Apart from LMFAO's Red Foo, none of the big US stars such as Ariana Grande or Slash went along. All they got was Vicky Pattinson from 'Geordie Shore'."

Eminem has threatened to punch Lana Del Rey "right in the face twice" in a new rap.
The 42-year-old star makes the violent vow in a new 18-minute video for 'Shady Cxvpher', in which he warns he will strike the brunette beauty "like Ray Rice", the American footballer who was arrested in March and charged with third-degree aggravated assault after CCTV footage emerged of him appearing to punch his wife in the face.
In the new cipher, which is to support his new greatest hits album 'Shady XV', Eminem raps: "But I may fight for gay rights, especially if the dyke is more of a knockout than Janay Rice/ Play nice? Bitch I'll punch Lana Del Rey right in the face twice, like Ray Rice in broad daylight in the plain sight of the elevator surveillance/ 'Til her head is banging on the railing, then celebrate with the Ravens."
The shocking lyric comes less than a minute after a lyric about talk show host Anderson Cooper's sexuality.
Former Baltimore Ravens player Rice was arrested and charged in March and subsequently suspended from playing in the NFL indefinitely following the February incident, in which he is seen in the footage striking Janay Palmer in the face, knocking her unconscious.
Eminem's latest lyrics come after 29-year-old Lana said she "f***ing loves" him in an interview in 2012 in which she said she praised him for being "the master of lyrics".
The rapper has previously made a pop at female singers Mariah Carey, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera in numerous tunes.

Elizabeth Banks asked Suzanne Collins for her blessing before agreeing to return to 'The Hunger Games' franchise.
The 40-year-old actress - who plays Effie Trinket, a flamboyant escort for the tributes, in the film series - didn't expect to return for the third or fourth movies because her character is not in the original novels by Collins, so felt compelled to ask for her permission before re-joining the cast for 'The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1'.
Speaking at a press conference for the new movie in London on Monday (10.11.14), she explained: "It was really important to me that Suzanne was on board, that the fans felt like we weren't taking too much away from the books."
The star was brought back by producers to replace the character of Fulvia Cardew in an effort not to over-complicate the plot with several new characters, a decision Banks is grateful for.
She added: "Nina Jacobson, the producer of the film, just called me one day and said, 'I think we've figured out a way for Effie to be in District 13,' and they just wanted Suzanne's blessing of course, which I did as well."
Elizabeth - who was talking ahead of the world premiere of the third book last night - added that after re-reading the novel and receiving the OK from Collins, she realised it was the correct decision.
She said: "It made more sense to me once I'd re-read 'Mockingjay' and realised I essentially took the role of Fulvia. We were already introducing so many new characters in 'Mockingjay' that I think it was right to bring Effie along for the ride."
Elizabeth wowed fashion fans when she turned up to the 'Huger Games: Mockingjay -Part 1' premiere in London last night (10.11.14) wearing a dramatic Elie Saab gown.
She was joined on the red carpet by her co-stars Jennifer Lawrence, Jena Malone, Julianne Moore and Natalie Dormer, as well as the singer Alexandra Burke, Daisy Lowe and the 'X Factor' hopeful Fleur East.

Joe Manganiello went "deaf" after working with screaming fans on 'Magic Mike XXL'.
The 37-year-old actor has revealed that his hearing suffered after he and his 'Magic Mike XXL' co-stars, Channing Tatum and Matt Bomer, filmed a scene with some hysterical extras.
Joe explained: "This time, there were 900 during our dance scene, so it was a bigger rush.
"The sound of 900 screaming women is literally deafening. My ears were ringing for days after I did my final routine."
However, the 'True Blood' star - who is currently dating actress Sofia Vergara, 42, - revealed that he wasn't fussed about learning the complicated stripping routines because he's so used to it by now.
Talking at the launch of the MB Chronowing smart watch at Soho House in West Hollywood on Thursday (06.11.14), Joe told PEOPLE magazine: "It's not a big deal any more. It's old hat at this point."
He also added that the best part of filming was the delicious food that he and his fellow co-stars Elizabeth Banks, Jada Pinkett Smith and Michael Strahan got to enjoy on set.
Joe shared: "I eat like a normal human being when I'm not training. We were in the South. So there's chicken pot pies and fried chicken and you know, sweet potato souffle, all that good fun stuff."
'Magic Mike XXL' is due out in cinemas from July 2015.

Detective Inspector Reid has "retreated from the world" in the new series of 'Ripper Street'.
The eccentric police detective played by Matthew MacFadyen returns in series three of the Victorian crime drama - that was rescued by Amazon Prime after being axed by the BBC - which picks up in Whitechapel four years after the end of series two.
Speaking at the premiere of 'Ripper Street' series three at east London's Shoreditch Town Hall, Matthew said of his character's development: "Reid has retreated from the world and lost his erstwhile friends Jackson [Adam Rothenberg] and Drake [Jerome Flynn], one to women and booze and one to Manchester. He's sort of alone and lonely."
And although his character no longer has his former colleagues on his side, Matthew insists he enjoyed being able to envisage what he'd been up to in the time that's passed.
He added: "As an actor it's wonderful because there's four years you can sort of make up in your head."
Meanwhile, MyAnna Buring - who reprises her role as Long Susan - has hinted that while her character is attempting to do good with the money she inherited after her blackmailer Silas Duggan (Frank Harper) died at the end of series two, there may be unfortunate consequences.
She explained: "She's taken the promise she made to Duggan at the end of season two and come good on it in season three. All of her intentions come from a place of wanting to do good."
Series 3 of 'Ripper Street' will be available to watch exclusively on Amazon Prime Instant Video from Friday November 14.
Ripper Street’s DI Reid ‘retreated from the world’
Detective Inspector Reid has "retreated from the world" in the new series of 'Ripper Street'.

Joe Swash thinks celebrities taking contraband into the 'I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here!' jungle makes great TV.
The former 'EastEnders' actor - who was crowned champion of the reality series in 2008 and has been presenting spin-off show 'I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here! NOW!' since 2009 - agrees with co-host Laura Whitmore that contestants are silly for bothering to sneak banned items into camp, but admits he does like the drama that comes with it.
Quizzed on whether she would hide make up to take with her if she were to appear on the show, Laura told BANG Showbiz: "No, because I just think that you can tell if someone is wearing make up or not.
"The show's been going for so long and people know what it's about so if you're going to go into the show you know you're not allowed to bring contraband, you know you're going to eat something disgusting.
"There's no point going in and being like, 'Oh, I didn't realise this was going to happen'."
Joe added: "Saying that, whenever the contraband has been in, like last year, it makes such a great storyline! There was all that tension with the camp against Amy [Willerton] so sometimes, you know..."
Laura - who is also joined by comedian Rob Beckett on the spin-off - went on to confess that she can't understand how some of the celebrities think they're not going to get caught out.
The blonde beauty explained: "We didn't know what she [Amy] had anyway and the producers were trying to watch to see if she had anything and then when they got it off of her they gave it to me and it was like a pink lipstick and concealer and I was like, 'How did she think she was going to get away with this, whose lips are this colour?!'"
'I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!' kicks off on Sunday November 16 at 9pm on ITV and 'Get Me Out Of Here! NOW!' at 10:40pm on ITV2.
