Netherlands King and Queen to visit States

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima of Netherlands will visit the United States for the first time as heads of the country in June.

The three-day official visit to the United States will be to celebrate the strong economic ties between the two countries, and it will be the first time the royal couple will have traveled to the United States since Willem-Alexander succeeded his mother, Queen Beatrix to become King in 2013.

While there, the royal couple will travel to Grand Rapids, in Michigan in June to celebrate the continuing bond between the Netherlands and Michigan.

Michigan Governor Rick Snyder and First Lady Sue Snyder will host the Royal couple during their visit, and he has said he’s "proud" to show them around the state with the largest Dutch-American population in the country and many family and street names reflecting the Dutch pioneers who settled there.

Governor Snyder said: "The visit of His Majesty King Willem-Alexander and Her Majesty Queen Máxima will underline the deep bond that exists between the Netherlands and the United States. It will be my pleasure to show them all aspects of this special relationship, from our economic ties to our joint heritage.

"I’m honored to welcome the Royal Couple to Michigan and the United States. We’re proud of our Dutch heritage and of the many contributions Dutch-Americans have made to Michigan. Our countries share a warm relationship today, and there are many ways we continue to work together. I’m proud to show them the great state of Michigan."
