Mark Knopfler opens competition to make new music video

Mark Knopfler is looking for a fan to make his next music video.
The 65-year-old rocker - who is best known as the lead guitarist, songwriter and vocalist for Dire Straits - has partnered with creative company Talenthouse to find aspiring film and video directors to create a video for his next single, 'Wherever I Go'.
The song has been taken from his new album 'Tracker', released on March 16, which will be his eighth solo studio record since Dire Straits disbanded in 1992 after six studio LPs.
Michael Rivalland, senior marketing manager at Virgin EMI, said: "This is the first time Mark has ever done anything like this. Traditionally he is a private person but he's allowing music out there before the release of 'Tracker' to encourage a new generation of creatives to interpret and create from his work."
The video can be filmed or animated, with a panel of judges deciding which entrant is successful, awarding the winner $4,000 (£2,657) prize money, in addition to their clip being used as the track's official video.
Entrants have until March 23 at 6pm GMT to submit their ideas for the video through the Talenthouse website.

Marvin Gaye’s family seek Blurred Lines sales halt

Marvin Gaye's family want to stop sales of 'Blurred Lines'.
The Motown star's children Frankie and Nona successfully won a lawsuit on Tuesday (10.03.15) claiming Pharrell Williams and Robin Thicke plagiarised their father's 1977 hit 'Got To Give It Up', and now they are fighting for the the track to be taken off sale until they have decided how future profits from the song will be split.
The Gaye family attorney Richard Busch told Rolling Stone magazine: "We'll be asking the court to enter an injunction prohibiting the further sale and distribution of 'Blurred Lines' unless and until we can reach an agreement with those guys on the other side about how future monies that are received will be shared.
"We'll be doing that in about a week or so."
The Los Angeles jury has ordered the musicians to pay $7.3 million (£4.84 million) to the late singer's family for copyright infringement, despite both Pharrell and Robin insisting they are innocent.
During the week-long trial, Pharrell said: "[Marvin Gaye] is one of the ones we look up to so much. This is the last place I want to be right now. The last thing you want to do as a creator is take something of someone else's when you love him."
The chart-topping track is believed to have sold almost 15 million copies since it was released in 2013, making it one of the best-selling singles of all time.

Noel Gallagher: Ed Sheeran is a ‘dude’

Noel Gallagher thinks Ed Sheeran is a "dude" for turning down a charity gig.
The 'Wonderwall' hitmaker revealed that when he called the 'Thinking Out Loud' singer to ask him to perform at a show in aid of Teenage Cancer Trust, he turned it down and insists Ed deserves respect for being the only person who has told him they couldn't perform.
He said: "The only one f***ing person that has ever ever ever said, 'I can't do it, I just got back from Australia I can't be f***ing arsed man, I'm f***ed, but I will definitely do it next year' - and I crossed his name off the list - was Ed Sheeran!
"He actually called me back, you know what I mean, he said, 'Right I'm ready now, I wanna do it', and I thought, 'You know what, what a f***ing dude.'"
The former Oasis singer appreciated Ed's upfront nature and insists that most artists agree to perform and then pull out a later date.
Speaking in the new issue of NME magazine, he said: "You'll be there on the phone listening to someone blatantly lying to you. People say they can do it and then get their publicist to call up later and say, 'Oh we can't do it now, he thinks his cat's gonna have a stroke that particular afternoon'.
"You're there, cajoling, with some **** who plays a banjo about whether they're gonna turn up."

Kelly Clarkson promises Demi Lovato collaboration

Kelly Clarkson has insisted a collaboration with Demi Lovato will "totally" happen.
The 'Heartbeat Song' hitmaker admitted the pair were close to working together on a song in the past but they were forced to reschedule.
Kelly told MTV News: "We almost got to work together, but I was pregnant and she had asked me to sing, I totally was down, but it just didn't work out.
"She was touring, I was super pregnant and not feeling well and it didn't work out this time, but it totally will... I love her; she's so sweet. Every time we see each other, she's always like, 'Kelly Clarkson, she's so nice, and so awesome, we're both Texans.'"
Meanwhile, Demi previously admitted that Kelly, 32, would be her "dream collaboration".
She tweeted: "Dream Collabs: Kelly Clarkson (duh), Eminem, Ed Sheeran, Marc Anthony, Christina Aguilera, Macklemore, Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, & Drake (sic)"
The 22-year-old singer also recently expanded on her reasons behind wanting to work on a track with Eminem.
She added: "I would love to work with Eminem actually... I can relate to him with being in recovery and things like that so I think we could make something awesome together."

Rihanna, Madonna for iHeartRadio Awards performances

Rihanna, Madonna and Kelly Clarkson will perform at the iHeartRadio Music Awards.
The second annual ceremony will also host performances from Sam Smith and Iggy Azalea, who have each received four nominations for the awards, and who will go head to head in the Artist of the Year category.
Elsewhere at the event - which will take place on March 29 at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles - Meghan Trainor, Jason Derulo, Jennifer Hudson, Snoop Dogg, Nate Ruess, Alesso, Florida Georgia Line and Jason Aldean will perform.
Taylor Swift has also been confirmed as an attendee at the ceremony having been nominated in multiple categories including Artist of the Year and Song of the Year for 'Shake It Off', although it has been reported she will not be singing.
Organisers of the event have teased a number of high profile collaborations will take place during the evening alongside the 11 awards, which are voted for based on hashtags on social media.
Last month, Rihanna caused controversy when her scheduled performance at the BRIT Awards in London had to be scrapped just days before the ceremony as she had failed to attend any rehearsals.
A source told The Sun newspaper: "Everything was prepared for Rihanna's performance but she was a no show.
"The organisers are furious as she was one of their biggest coups."

Charli XCX wants to be an ice skater

Charli XCX wanted to be an ice skater as a child.
The 'Doing It' hitmaker has revealed she would have loved to have been a figure skater if she wasn't a popular musician, even though she didn't seriously consider any other professions other than music as a youngster.
When asked what she would be doing if she wasn't a singer, she revealed: "I don't know because I never really thought about anything that seriously, other than making music, but I really like ice skating."
The singer explained her interest in ice skating began as a young child when she became "fascinated" by the hobby, and dreamt about owning the costumes she saw figure skaters wearing.
She elaborated: "When I was younger I was very fascinated with figure skaters, I thought their outfits were great, I thought they were always very beautiful, so to be an ice skater would be cool."
The 22-year-old star - who recently released her second studio album 'Sucker' - admitted a career move is unlikely however because she is not skilled at the winter sport, and while she can do some tricks including skating backwards, she needs a helping hand to get her going.
She told 4Music: "I can go backwards a little bit, but someone has to push me a little bit."

Fleetwood Mac will release an album in ‘a couple of years’

Mick Fleetwood says it will be "a couple of years" before Fleetwood Mac release a new album.
The band's drummer has revealed their hectic touring schedule means the band - also featuring John and Christine McVie, Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks - have had to put their album plans on hold, meaning it is unlikely it will be released in the near future.
He confessed: "This whole touring stuff is getting sort of totally, in a good way, out of control.
"We're going all over the world now, so we don't quite know how we're gonna finish this [album] out."
However, the 67-year-old musician admitted they are gradually working on new material which is sounding "wonderful".
He said: "We're building up this whole sort of dossier of material, a glut of stuff.
"[Lindsey Buckingham] has a great chunk of wonderful songs, [most of which are] pretty flushed out and finished.
"[I have] been in the studio with Christine in months gone by [and that] worked out amazingly well."
And although Stevie Nicks has not yet confirmed whether she will stay with the band for another album when their current reunion tour ends, Mick is feeling positive they will release another LP at some point in the future, which would be their first record with their current line-up since the multi-platinum 1987 effort, 'Tango in the Night'.
He told ABC Radio: "I hope it happens.
"My inclination is, the music will not be wasted. It will come out one way or another. And I truly hope, and I quietly believe it will be Fleetwood Mac, and Stevie will do some lovely stuff and within the next couple of years we will get that done."

Mumford + Sons inspired by Led Zeppelin

Mumford & Sons' new album was inspired by Led Zeppelin and Radiohead.
The 'I Will Wait' hitmakers have revealed their latest LP 'Wilder Mind' takes notes of other artists' use of "space" in their tracks.
Marcus said: "I think all our favourite bands have albums that are really urgent, but they have so much space in them. You listen to an Old Crow album, and there's not a huge amount of space there.
"But you listen to a Led Zeppelin album and suddenly you actually hear the space because it's more defined by less of the noise going on. All our favourite bands, from Dire Straits and Fleetwood Mac to Radiohead, all go about it in interesting ways, and especially with a very lyrical band like ours, you have to be even more intentional about space."
The 28-year-old singer also insisted the new album was a much more "collaborative" project between him, Ben Lovett, Winston Marshall, Ted Dwane and the writers and producers they worked with.
He added to Rolling Stone magazine: "Everyone was writing what we thought were great lyrics. We've always said that it's a competition between songs rather than writers, so it's like, whoever writes it, if it's a good song, it's in.
"And so the boys kept coming up with a bunch of amazing lyrics that I found really fun to sing, and that was quite a liberating experience too - really enjoying, relishing singing someone else's lyrics.
"We're all so close now that it feels like it's much easier to empathise with each other than it's ever been, and because we know each other so well, you don't have to ask the awkward questions about what a lyric means."
