Mark Knopfler opens competition to make new music video

Mark Knopfler is looking for a fan to make his next music video.

The 65-year-old rocker – who is best known as the lead guitarist, songwriter and vocalist for Dire Straits – has partnered with creative company Talenthouse to find aspiring film and video directors to create a video for his next single, ‘Wherever I Go’.

The song has been taken from his new album ‘Tracker’, released on March 16, which will be his eighth solo studio record since Dire Straits disbanded in 1992 after six studio LPs.

Michael Rivalland, senior marketing manager at Virgin EMI, said: "This is the first time Mark has ever done anything like this. Traditionally he is a private person but he’s allowing music out there before the release of ‘Tracker’ to encourage a new generation of creatives to interpret and create from his work."

The video can be filmed or animated, with a panel of judges deciding which entrant is successful, awarding the winner $4,000 (£2,657) prize money, in addition to their clip being used as the track’s official video.

Entrants have until March 23 at 6pm GMT to submit their ideas for the video through the Talenthouse website.
