Sir Elton John was "gutted" his record label refused his latest album.
The 'Tiny Dancer' hitmaker thought his initial concept for his record was "f***ing good" and admitted he was upset with Capitol Records for a week after they rejected it, even though he found a new label to release it through.
He explained: "I don't know. I know if it was politics or whatever. I was gutted, I have to say. I thought, "This is a f***ing good record, and I can't understand why they don't want to put it out.
"But they've done me a favour. I was so upset for about a week, and then I landed on Island's doorstep with David Massey and they are so thrilled. They have a lot of young artists on their label. I am, by far, the oldest artist they have. They have The Killers, who are friends of mine.
"I'm 68 years old, and I've made 33 studio albums. All I'm asking for at this age is for them to like it, to be enthusiastic and to do their best. I can ask for no more."
But while he's confident in his latest record 'Wonderful Crazy Night' he doesn't expect it to sell a "million" copies.
He told Rolling Stone magazine: "I have my own management company. I follow the charts. I know everything about the business. I know where I stand as far as selling albums. I'm not going to sell a million albums. I'm not expecting to."

Coldplay have announced their 2016 'A Head Full of Dreams' tour.
The British band have revealed they will head out on the road next year with performances across Europe and Latin America, with dates in North America also set to be announced shortly.
The four-piece group will kick off the tour in Buenos Aires in March before travelling through the continent, arriving in Europe in May with two nights at London's Wembley Stadium in June.
The series of shows will be their first since their 'Mylo Xyloto Tour' in 2011/12, having decided not to play many shows following the release of their last album 'Ghost Stories'.
Frontman Chris Martin said: "I think that not going on tour with 'Ghost Stories' was one of the best decisions we ever made, because it gave us such pent-up energy in the studio and completely reignited everyone's desire to go around the world and play music. 'A Head Full Of Dreams' was written as a record to be performed live. We can't wait to do that."
The new record will be released on December 4 and has been preceded by their new single 'Adventure of a Lifetime'.
Tickets for the European shows go on sale next Friday (27.11.15) at 9.30am GMT for the UK performances, and at 10am CET for all other shows.

Mumford & Sons have joined the Barclaycard British Summer Time Hyde Park 2016 line-up.
The British folk rockers - who released their third album 'Wilder Mind' earlier this year - will headline the festival on July 8, with support from Alabama Shakes and Wolf Alice.
Announcing the news, the band said: "Hyde Park for us: sacrificing hopes and dreams at the altar of Neil Young; being transported to another dimension by The National; supporting Arcade Fire (the best band in the world); playing alongside our mates The Vaccines; accidentally seeing Black Eyed Peas; wishing we were at Kylie. What a place. And this time we get to headline and pick a bill of sick artists to play with us. Alabama Shakes! Wolf Alice! Gentlewomen of the Road! We're travelling all over at the moment, so having this massive gig to look forward to next summer, right in the heart of our home city, is just awesome."
The show - for which tickets go on sale at 9am next Friday (27.11.15) - is the second announced for the 2016 string of performances, following Take That on July 9.
Headliners at this year's event included Taylor Swift, Kylie Minogue, The Who and Blur.

Rihanna will reportedly release her new album 'Anti' next Friday (27.11.15).
The 'FourFiveSeconds' hitmaker has not yet confirmed the release, but several insiders have revealed she plans to put the album out to compete with her ex-boyfriend's new record 'Royalty', released on the same day.
An insider told The Sun newspaper:"Everyone expects it to be out next Friday. Strategically it's clever as it means she avoids a chart clash with Adele and Coldplay.
"She'll have no problem competing with Chris."
The 27-year-old singer also shared a link on her Twitter and Instagram accounts on Thursday (19.11.15) to a new website, ANTIdiaRy.com, which has a teaser video of the album showing a sequence of shots of the star with a distorted audio file.
The star has teamed up with Samsung to release the new record in a £25 million deal for the website, which sends mobile phone users to a cryptic message, which reads: "You'll know when it's time."
And Rihanna also tweeted how overjoyed she is to share details of her album.
She wrote: "Excited to share this with you!! #ANTIdiaRy (sic)"
More information on 'Anti' is expected to be announced during Monday's (23.11.15) American Music Awards.

Justin Bieber has made a last-minute Snapchat plea to get his album to number one in the UK.
The 21-year-old singer released his new album 'Purpose' last week on the same day as One Direction's 'Made In The A.M.' and he has taken to the photo and video-sharing app to beg his fans to support him.
In the desperate plea, he said: "Bottom line is I'm trying to get that number one in the UK. So anything you guys can do to help me out with that..."
The album at the top spot will be announced later today (20.11.15) but in the mid-week charts, revealed on Monday (16.11.15), the 'What Do You Mean?' singer was 14,000 copies behind One Direction.
Meanwhile, he's expected to reach the top spot in the US Billboard charts, and is on course to hit number one in the UK singles charts with 'Sorry'.
And in other messages on his Snapchat - which he uses under the username rickthesizzler - he asked a pal to back his campaign.
While sitting in a car with Justin and another man, the friend said: "Look, I think he's got something to say, Josh has something to say, we all have something to say. If you're in the UK I think you should go and get the album. Please.
"So here's the deal, if you get this guy, Justin Bieber, if you get his new album, called Purpose, in the UK..."

Roger Waters was "miserable" and "snotty" in the 80s.
The 72-year-old rocker has opened up about his attitude problems when he first performed songs from the album 'The Wall' with his band Pink Floyd and insisted he's now a changed man.
He said: "I was poor miserable little f***ed up Roger.
"If I was in this room, I'd be in one of the corners. I'd be dressed in black and I'd have a cigarette hanging out of the corner of my mouth.
"My expression would be one of 'f**k off, leave me alone'."
However, the 'Comfortably Numb' singer claimed he now appreciates his fans much more.
He told The Sun newspaper: "One of the huge changes between then and now is that I used to be a bit snotty with audiences. Now the whole thing has become a sort of love fest.
"I see young people in Buenos Aires or Split who can't speak a word of English but they're mouthing all the words phonetically, not really knowing what they mean."
Waters embarked on a road trip through France and Italy to visit the places where his father and grandfather were killed in the First and Second World Wars for the film 'The Wall'.
He said of the project: "It's very naked, which I like, It unashamedly spreads my past in front of this great spectacle that was the show and says, 'This is what a lot of 'The Wall's about'."
Roger added: "I feel extraordinarily fortunate to have made something considered significant in terms of its content ... and also really popular."

Nothing But Thieves don't want to be rock stars.
The 'Trip Switch' hitmakers may be known for their head-banging music but they're determined to carve out their own identities rather than conform to an image that supposedly goes hand-in-hand with the genre of music they slot into.
Frontman Conor Mason, 22, told BANG Showbiz: "It p***es me off, not my label particularly, I love my team but in general labels and the industry. They do kind of want to doll you up and I think it's cooler to do your own thing.
"It's more rock and roll to wear what you want and not be told what to do. I like my boots and jackets and stuff like that but I don't like being told what to wear."
Meanwhile, the five-piece - also consisting of Joe Langridge-Brown, Dominic Craik, James Price, and Philip Blake - have just achieved a top 10 album in the UK chart with their debut self-titled LP, but earning music success is not something they're particularly interested in.
Conor explained: "Six months ago when people were asking if we'd like to get in it and I was like I really don't care.
"I'm really happy that it's gone that way but I'm not like adamant for it to happen.
"I didn't even put any pressure on it hitting top 10 or anything so it was a pleasant surprise that we were very welcome to. We were very happy about it. We had a big party that night."
The band are now gearing up for their 'Under My Skin' UK tour, which kicks off at the beginning of next year.

Il Divo have backed One Direction's decision to take a break.
The classical crossover group have accumulated 12 years' experience in the music industry and think the boyband's desire to go on hiatus next year is understandable as they have been under intense pressure since rocketing to fame.
Speaking exclusively to BANG Showbiz, German-born Spanish baritone Carlos Marín said: "It's difficult because you're together 16/17 hours a day. I think them having a break is a normal thing.
"Hopefully they come back together but it depends what they want to do. They are fantastic guys and great singers and obviously they have a lot going on. Being young you need to know what you want to do.
"Being a singer is beautiful but when you're as big as One Direction you have demands from all over the world and that is quite tough."
However, Il Divo - which also includes David Miller, Urs Buhler and Sébastien Izambard - are not planning to follow in their footsteps by taking a break and are instead planning "another 10 years" in the business.
Carlos said: "We are the mature guys who are still doing things after 12 years and hopefully we will for another 10 years."
Meanwhile, both groups are signed to Simon Cowell's Syco record label and Il Divo have nothing but praise for the music mogul.
Carlos, 47, said: "He's a very nice guy. We have musical theatre and classic backgrounds so at the beginning he said 'guys, trust me' and then after 12 years we said to him 'trust us'.
"He let us do whatever we want because he knows we are experienced and mature guys and we've shown that in the 12 years."
Il Divo's new album 'Amor & Pasion' is out November 27. They tour the UK in May 2016.

Justin Bieber has praised Ed Sheeran as a "super talented songwriter".
The 21-year-old star teamed up with the 24-year-old singer/songwriter for Justin's new track 'Love Yourself' and he was thrilled to work with someone of Ed's "calibre".
Justin said: "He is a good guy, super talented. Really good songwriter so just to be able to work with that calibre of songwriter was really really awesome. We are boys, so we just go out and we're mates."
This is not the first high-profile collaboration for Ed - who also features on backing vocals - as he has written for One Direction and recorded a duet with Taylor Swift.
Justin also admitted that the song - which features lyrics including "You think you broke my heart? Oh girl, for goodness' sake" - is about an ex-girlfriend but he is reluctant to name her publicly because he doesn't want to hurt her.
Co-hosting on Capital FM with Roman Kemp, Justin was asked: "So one of the questions that obviously people naturally ask when listening to a song like 'Love Yourself' - is it about past experiences? Is it about past girlfriends?"
The singer replied: "Yeah, it is but you know I don't want to make anyone upset so I'm not going to say it to the public."
