Bryan Adams: I’d be boring without my hits

Bryan Adams says he would be "boring" without his catalogue of big hits.
The 56-year-old rock legend is still in "love" with his fan-favourite tracks, despite having released new material in recent years, and is relieved songs like 'Everything I Do, I Do It For You' and 'Summer of 69' are still in demand because he believes they keep gigging.
Asked whether he enjoys playing the old hits, the heartthrob said: "I love it. I love it. But in fact, when you do play live what happens is people sing the song back to you and it becomes a new thing. It's not like singing the same song, because everyone is singing with you. I think you are obliged as a performer to give them that, and to go out and do that show because actually if I didn't have those songs, I would be boring."
Meanwhile, Adams is happily settled in the UK with his long term partner Alicia Grimaldi - with whom he has two young daughters, Bunny, four, and two-year-old Lula Rosylea -
and revealed his kids are just beginning to realise what he does for a living.
In an interview on UK chat show 'Loose Women', he said: "My eldest daughter came home one day and said, 'Oh papa, someone at school said you are a very good singer.' That's the first time she's ever said something like that."

The Osmonds’ festive fun at the Andy Williams Christmas Spectacular

The Osmonds put on a festive extravaganza at their 'Andy Williams Christmas Spectacular' concert at the Indigo at The O2 in London on Wednesday night (16.12.15).
The pop veterans paid homage to Christmas and the late performer - who used to host the show at the Andy Williams Moon River Theatre, in Branson - as they sang a medley of seasonal covers including Wizzard's 'I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day', Slade's 'Merry Christmas Everybody' and Wham! hit 'Last Christmas'.
The group - which now includes Jimmy, Jay and Merrill Osmond - thrilled the packed auditorium with a number of older festive classics too and proved they've still got the moves, as they trotted across the stage in step.
Britain's Got Talent' star Charlie Green joined the group on stage and sang a stunning rendition of Nina Simone's hit 'Feeling Good', with Jimmy declaring Charlie to be "the real deal".
The second half of the show saw Merrill, 62, Jay, 60, and Jimmy 52, enter the crowd and shake hands and hug their fans, who later got out of their seats and danced at the front of the stage when they ended the night with a medley of old Osmond hits.
The brothers evoked "Osmondmania" once again as they belted out hits such as 'Love Me for a Reason', 'Crazy Horses' and 'Down By The Lazy River'.
Meanwhile, Jimmy introduced the arena to video footage of the musical family - which also includes Donny Osmond, Marie Osmond, Alan Osmond and Wayne Osmond - growing up and told the audience: "I am thrilled to bring 'Andy's Christmas Spectacular' to our friends in the UK. I first appeared on Andy Williams' stage when I was only three years old. My brothers had been singing back-up on Andy's biggest hits and had been regulars on his hit television series for several years.
"It's such a joy to carry on Andy's legacy and continue his treasured holiday tradition."

Underdog James Bay very proud of Grammy nominations

James Bay feels just like an underdog that has come good following his three Grammy nominations.
The 25-year-old musician is competing for Best New Artist, Best Rock Album for his debut LP 'Chaos and the Calm' and Best Rock Song for 'Hold Back The River' at the prestigious music ceremony next year and says his achievement is comparable to when his favourite soccer team Blackburn Rovers won the English Premier League in 1995.
Revealing how he reacted when he was informed about his nods, he said: "Silence. Eyebrow raised speechlessness! Like the look of a man who thinks he knows football [soccer] and is then told that Blackburn Rovers, of all teams, are one of only five to ever have won the Premier League."
The 'Hold Back The River' hitmaker has enjoyed international success and is on the brink of cracking the US, which is very important to Bay as he cites American artists such as Bruce Springsteen as major influences.
Discussing his American success so far, he told Billboard magazine:
"The response at shows has been amazing. Thousands of people each night singing all the songs, and the album's only been out eight months.
"It's a really cool feeling given what an enormous territory it is and seen as a whole half of my musical influences come from the States."

Craig David and Bloc Party to headline MTV Brand New 2016

Craig David's TS5 and Bloc Party will headline this year's MTV Brand New 2016 shows at London's Electric Ballroom.
The 34-year-old MC will be supported by MTV Brand New shortlisted acts Anne-Marie and WSTRN on January 26 and he is "excited" to perform with both of the rising acts and is particularly a fan of songstress Anne-Marie, who he thinks has a "sick" voice.
On his headlining performance, he said: "MTV has always been about showcasing new talent, so to come and headline their Brand New for 2016 gig is wicked. I've been in the studio with WSTRN and they are amazing with a big future ahead of them, and Anne-Marie's voice is so sick. I'm looking forward to sharing the stage with them!"
And indie rockers Bloc Party - who have sold over three million albums worldwide - will perform at the Camden venue the following day, January 27 with shortlisted Nimmo and Rat Boy.
The winner of MTV's Brand New 2016 with Emporio Armani Diamonds will be revealed in February 2016.
Fans can vote for their favourite artist on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook mentions using #MTVBrandNew followed by the artist name and track progress live via the leader board at www.mtv.co.uk/brandnew.

Deep Purple’s Ian Paice blasts Rock Hall

Deep Purple, N.W.A, Steve Miller, Cheap Trick Chicago will all enter the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame next year.
It has been announced that the five acts have been chosen to be honoured for their incredible music careers and all will be enshrined in history at the 31st annual induction ceremony at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York City, on April 8, 2016.
Although Deep Purple drummer Ian Paice is thrilled the 'Smoke On The Water' hitmakers - who were founded in 1968 and recently finished their 'Now What?! World Tour' -
Speaking to the Classic Rock website, the 67-year-old musician said: "The Hall of Fame should be embarrassed for not inducting us already. Look at some of the non-entities who've got in. I won't name them, but just have a look at some of those names, and you'll know who I mean. What have they ever done for rock'n'roll? Nothing. Having these artists in before Deep Purple undermines what it is supposed to represent."
And while Ian Gillan fronts the group now, the drummer added that the their many members - including previous lead singers David Coverdale, Glenn Hughes, Tommy Bolin, Joe Lynn Turner and Rod Evans - should be inducted "individually" to avoid a "punch-up."
He said: "Who would they induct There have been so many members of this band, even if they say it will be core members, who would it be? You also have to bear in mind, that if some people are inducted together, it could end in a punch-up. I don't need to tell anyone certain key members and former members of this band do not get on. Personally, I think they would be better off inducting us individually. That avoids the problem."

Mumford and Sons and Sir Elton John ‘battle’ touts

Mumford & Sons and Sir Elton John have called on fans to help them fight the "battle" against ticket touts.
The 'I Will Wait' hitmakers and the 68-year-old legend have blasted the practice - also known as secondary ticketing - which sees people buy up tickets for an event to resell them at a profit, and an open letter on the group's website has addressed music-goers directly asking them to join them.
The letter reads: "Many tickets on secondary sites are being sold by touts who are simply in the business of ripping off the fan by charging an extortionate amount for sold out shows ... We need your help to win this battle."
"Yes, there are some fans legitimately trying to sell on tickets to other fans because they can't make a show for whatever reason - but we believe this is a tiny percentage of the business being conducted on secondary tickets sites. We strongly urge you to use a platform like Twickets, ScarletMist and other face-value-only sites if you can't make a show and need to sell on your tickets."
And while the band - which includes Marcus Mumford, Winston Marshall, Ben Lovett and Ted Dwane - recently visited the British parliament to offer their support for an investigation into Secondary Ticketing they insist they have exhausted a number of means to combat the practice over the years.
The letter continues: "Behind the scenes over the years, we have tried a lot of different ways to beat the touts including trying to get as many of the tickets as possible for a show to sell ourselves through ticket companies that we choose; we hold back tickets to put back on sale at face value nearer to the show so that fans have a second bite of the cherry at buying tickets at the right price."
Meanwhile, Sir Elton called the practice - which also takes place outside of music venues - "disgraceful" and urged fans to stay at home rather than pay an unfair charge for a gig.
Speaking to the BBC on Wednesday (16.12.15), he said: "I think it's extortionate and I think it's disgraceful. The fact that they're willing to pay that [amount] is fantastic, but I just think I'd rather they save their money and not come."

Adele confirmed as first BRIT Awards performer

Adele is the first artist confirmed to perform at the BRIT Awards 2016.
The 'Hello' hitmaker - who made her triumphant return to the music industry this year after a four-year hiatus - will perform at the ceremony held at London's O2 Arena on February 24.
BRITs chairman Max Lousada said: "You couldn't get a bigger name in music right now. Adele is having an exceptional moment and the Brits are delighted to be a part of her history, her present and future."
It is likely to be an emotional performance for the 27-year-old singer - who is a three-time BRIT Award winner herself - as she recently teared up during her first fully live concert in four years.
She told the crowd: "I know I've been quiet, I just wanted to come back and surprise you. I didn't want to tell you anything because I wanted it to be a surprise. I feel like this is the start now.
"We've been planning it for months and I'm just so happy and before the show I was like, 'Oh God I want it to be over,' because I was so nervous, but I've managed to remember every moment of this show."
The BRIT Awards with MasterCard 2016 takes place at London's O2 Arena on February 24.

Phil Cunningham feels ‘angry’ towards Peter Hook

New Order's Phil Cunningham feels "angry" towards ex-bassist Peter Hook.
The 41-year-old star has blasted Peter for his negative remarks towards the band since leaving in 2007, after he accused them of setting up a company behind his back and failing to pay him the royalties he was owed.
He said: "It saddened me a few years ago, but he's said such horrible things about Bernard [Sumner] and the rest of the band that it just makes me angry now."
Peter, 59, sued his former bandmates for "many millions of pounds" in a row over royalties last month, and Phil is disappointed by how the row has escalated over the years.
He told Loaded: "Peter phoned me a couple of years ago, because I said something in an interview that offended him. He said: 'Look, it's all getting a bit personal, this. It's ridiculous. I've got my thing, you've got yours, and it's cool. Everyone's happy.'
"But that's obviously not the case. He's not happy. He decided to leave the house, and now he's outside it, chucking bricks through the window."
Bernard, meanwhile, recently said the feud is "getting boring".
He admitted: ''It's a real shame. My heart bleeds for him. He left the band, and then he complained about leaving the band.
"But I wish him good luck and that he gets on with what he's chosen to do instead of calling me all sorts of names. He's so angry.
"If you choose to take a path in life, don't blame other people for the path you've chosen to take ... it must be getting a bit boring for people. He did leave a bad taste in my mouth.''

Fall Out Boy banned from Saturday Night Live?

Fall Out Boy think they could be banned from 'Saturday Night Live' after Pete Wentz put his foot through the set's walls.
The 'Uma Thurman' hitmakers last played the American TV comedy sketch show in 2013 and Pete doesn't think they will be invited back after his embarrassing mishap.
Pete, 36, recalled: "I think I put my foot through the wall at 'SNL' and they're like, 'Those are made out of papier mache ... We have not been invited back since."
Frontman Patrick, 31, added: "The whole set almost fell over."
And Patrick said the band - who formed in Chicago in 2001 and also includes drummer Andy Hurley and guitarist Joe Trohman - would put on wild displays at their gigs in the early days but admitted they "didn't know any better".
He told Billboard magazine: "When we were younger, we just didn't know anything, we didn't know what we weren't supposed to do, so we'd jump off rafters and break things and that was always a hard act to follow and it was all just because we didn't know any better. We were too dumb to know any better."
