Neill Blomkamp is to make a new 'Alien' movie.
The 35-year-old South African-Canadian director has agreed a deal with 20th Century Fox to make the eagerly-awaited new film, following intense speculation over the last few weeks.
Blomkamp confirmed the news on Instagram, posting an image of an alien and writing: "Um... So I think it's officially my next film. #alien (sic)"
The untitled sci-fi movie is separate from the Ridley Scott-produced 'Prometheus 2', according to Variety, with the new 'Alien' film said to be based years after the 'Prometheus' sequel.
Blomkamp recently revealed his interest in the project, having spoken to veteran 'Alien' actress Sigourney Weaver about the iconic movie while they were making their new film 'Chappie'.
He explained: "Speaking to Sigourney Weaver, when we were doing Chappie, she set off a bunch of thoughts in my head - I had come up with an idea that didn't have Sigourney, it was a different idea. But I spent all of the shooting time with her, it was like, holy s***, that could actually be really interesting.
"When I came back to Vancouver, I had an entire year to work on Chappie. And when I wasn't needed in the edit, I could think about Alien. So, I basically developed an entire movie and I did all of this artwork as well."
Despite this, it remains unclear whether Weaver will appear in the new film.
Kristen Bell has been cast alongside Melissa McCarthy in new comedy film 'Michelle Darnell'.

Dan Aykroyd is still hoping to make a "more conventional" third 'Ghostbusters' sequel.
The 62-year-old actor - who co-created and starred in the first two movies in the film franchise in the 1980s - is excited about the upcoming third movie, which will feature a female cast in the main roles, but insists he has plenty of ideas to do another 'Ghostbusters' film.
He said: "There's three drafts of the old concept that exists. And we're going to be able to salvage some of it and use it. Yeah, we're gonna be able to use it someday.
"Let's get this one made and that will reinvigorate the franchise and then we'll go on to maybe doing a more conventional third sequel as we were planning and another idea I have for it."
Aykroyd also praised Paul Feig for writing a great script for the upcoming movie - which is slated for release in 2016 - about four actresses, Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon, starring in the titular parts, and admitted the movie series needed to go down a different path.
Speaking on Sirius XM, he added: "I can tell you, as the originator, I'm very happy with what [Feig's] done. It's very tasteful. And it needed a reworking. The thing needed a new engine. You know? It needed new exhaust. It needed new steering. And this is what we're getting."
Margot Robbie found working with Martin Scorsese to be a "magical" experience.
The 24-year-old Australian actress starred alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in the Scorsese-directed hit 'The Wolf of Wall Street' and admits she was surprised by certain aspects of working with the Hollywood legend.
She shared: "I assumed he'd be very hands-on and have a lot to say, because his style is so distinctive, but it was actually quite the opposite. The most important thing was that he would give us the freedom to explore the characters - he would let the camera roll for 20 minutes sometimes and not call cut.
"It was a very liberal set, you could say and do what you wanted. It was all about creating characters people would be interested in. We had a lot of time, as well, which was magical and he just trusted everyone to do their own jobs."
Robbie plays the role of Naomi Lapaglia - the love interest of Jordan Belfort - in the movie, and revealed Scorsese was "conservative" when talking about some of the racier aspects of the movie.
She told ShortList.com: "For a guy who puts such raw and honest things in his movies, he's extremely conservative when talking about them.
"I remember talking with him about the sex scenes and he said, 'So in that scene when Jordan and Naomi are making love,' and I was just, 'Making love? I don't know if I'd call it that...' He was so reserved."
Scarlett Johansson has been cast in 'The Psychopath Test'.
The 30-year-old actress has agreed a deal to star in the film adaptation of Jon Ronson's book of same name.
Brian Grazer and Roach will produce the project, according to Deadline, which also claims Erica Huggins and Jennifer Perini will act as executive producers.
The original synopsis of the book explains: "What if society wasn't fundamentally rational, but was motivated by insanity? This thought sets Jon Ronson on an utterly compelling adventure into the world of madness.
"Along the way, Jon meets psychopaths, those whose lives have been touched by madness and those whose job it is to diagnose it, including the influential psychologist who developed the Psychopath Test, from whom Jon learns the art of psychopath-spotting.
"A skill which seemingly reveals that madness could indeed be at the heart of everything..."
Johansson's casting in 'The Psychopath Test' comes shortly after it was confirmed she will reprise the role of Black Widow in 'Captain America: Civil War'.
Director Anthony Russo shared: "We've been preparing for the movie since the one debuted last year. So, we've been working on it for a long time now.
"We're very happy how it's coming along... It's going to star Chris Evans as Captain America, Scarlett Johansson will be back, Winter Soldier [Sebastian Stan] will be back, and Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man will also be joining us in the next film."
Dame Judi Dench found 'The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel' reminded her of her "childhood".
The Oscar-winning actress stars in the much-anticipated sequel to the 2012 comedy-drama film, and admits to thoroughly enjoying spending time shooting the movie in India.
Speaking at the world premiere of the movie in London's Leicester Square last night (17.02.15), she told BANG Showbiz: "I couldn't wait to get back to India. And like those places you go to during your childhood, you worry it won't be the same. Well, it was the same only better.
"I've never spent much time in India before. Two lots of eight weeks, how lucky."
The 80-year-old actress, who stars in the new film alongside Dev Patel and Richard Gere, said that although her experiences of India are relatively limited, the movie offers a fair depiction of the country as she knows it.
Dame Judi reflected: "As far as I know India, yes, it's an accurate reflection of the country. I only did the first one and this one, and I've never been before or since. I would want to go back again. I don't know whether for a third film, or just to visit."
A crew member on the new James Bond movie was seriously injured during filming on Tuesday (17.02.15).
The much-anticipated new movie 'SPECTRE' - which is currently being filmed in Solden, Austria - has suffered another setback after a camera truck veered off the road and crashed into a barn, badly injuring at least one member of the crew.
Terry Madden - the second unit assistant director, who has previously worked on 'Skyfall', 'Quantum of Solace' and 'Casino Royale' - was badly hurt in the accident, according to The Hollywood Reporter, which said he suffered multiple injuries to his leg.
The incident comes shortly after it was reported Daniel Craig suffered a knee injury while filming scenes for the new movie.
News of the injury, which transpired to be fairly minor, led former Bond star Sir Roger Moore to offer to reprise the role of the secret agent.
Sir Roger - who starred as James Bond in the films between 1973 and 1985 - joked: "Sorry to hear Daniel Craig has sprained his knee on set #Spectre. Being 007 is not without its hazards. I'm available to step in if needed. (sic)"
Felicity Jones has been cast alongside Tom Hanks in 'Inferno'.

Director and producer Ron Howard said: "For this film, I wanted Tom Hanks to be surrounded by an international cast of actors whose energy will underscore Robert Langdon's life-or-death peril, the high-stakes action he takes, and the global threat that he's trying to prevent."
Howard also confirmed that Omar Sy has been cast as Christoph Bruder and Sidse Babett Knudsen as Dr. Elizabeth Sinskey - the head of the World Health Organisation - in the eagerly-awaited new film.
He said: "Felicity, Irrfan [Khan], Omar, and Sidse have all broken through with recognition here in America as well as their home countries - they are phenomenal talents and we can't wait to get started."
Production on the film is set to begin in April, with the movie scheduled for release in October 2016.
