Bradley Cooper to direct A Star is Born remake

Bradley Cooper is set to make his directorial debut on a remake of 'A Star is Born'.
The 40-year-old actor is in line to step behind the camera for the first time to re-imagine the story which has already been brought to life on the big screen on three previous occasions.
According to Variety, Cooper is currently in talks with Warner Bros. to direct the proposed project and if he accepts the offer to helm the film, he will also produce it through his 22 Green company along with Jon Peters, Billy Gerber and Basil Iwanyk.
It is believed that the latest remake will be based on William Wellman's original 1937 film which starred Janet Gaynor and Fredric March, and focused on a fading movie star who helps a young aspiring actress make it to the big time.
The film won two Oscars, including Best Writing for Wellman and Robert Carson.
Clint Eastwood - who directed Cooper in the Academy Award nominated 'American Sniper - had been planning his own re-telling of 'A Star is Born' with Beyoncé in a lead role.
The project almost got off the ground in 2011 but it was derailed when the singer-and-actress got pregnant with her daughter Blue Ivy, meaning Eastwood turned his attention to 'Jersey Boys'.
The 1954 musical version of 'A Star is Born' - which earned six Oscar nominations - featured Judy Garland and James Mason, while the 1976 rock musical reimagining starred Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson.

Kenneth Branagh ‘hopeful’ of Martin Scorsese directing Macbeth

Sir Kenneth Branagh is "very hopeful" Martin Scorsese will direct a movie adaptation of his 2013 'Macbeth' stage production.
The acclaimed directors were said to have staged informal discussions about the idea a few months ago, and Sir Kenneth has confirmed it is now close to a reality.
The 54-year-old star - who also confirmed the play would soon be returning to theatres - told BBC Radio 5 Live: "We're practically there... We will remount the production and all things being well Mr Scorsese will direct a film version of that production.
"Fingers are hovering above pieces of paper. Everybody wants to do it, it's just a question of schedules. I'm very, very, very, very hopeful it's going to happen."
Meanwhile, Sir Kenneth recently confessed he found the Disney remake of 'Cinderella' as intimidating as tackling a William Shakespeare production.
Asked which is more daunting to direct, he replied: "I'd say it's equally intimidating. The ferocity of passion that is engendered by people when they don't like what you've done is really tremendous. It's intense.
"But my feeling is always that the original work is there, at the end of it, or whatever people might deem as the traditional way of doing things.
"But, I always think that's a myth. Particularly with Shakespeare, they weren't there in the 1600s, so it's usually an idea, in our own heads, of what's right and proper, or just what you prefer."

Richard Gere recalls importance of a Post-it note to Pretty Woman

A Post-it note was key to the making of 'Pretty Woman'.
The iconic romantic comedy starring Richard Gere and Julia Roberts is currently celebrating its 25th anniversary, but the 65-year-old actor - who played businessman Edward Lewis - has revealed he was initially reluctant to star in the film because he disliked the original script, which was a cautionary tale about class and prostitution in Los Angeles.
Asked why he initially declined the offer to appear in the movie, Gere told the 'Today' show: "Well, there wasn't a part. There was just nothing. The joke was [it was just] a suit.
"You could put a suit on a goat and put it out there, and it would work."
However, the acclaimed actor had a change of heart during a phone conversation with director Garry Marshall, who was willing him to accept the role in the reworked film, which had by then evolved into a romantic comedy with a large budget.
The phone conversation was overheard by Gere's future co-star Julia Roberts - who played the part of Vivian Ward - and she passed a Post-it note to him.
Gere explained: "She turns it around and she pushed it to me, and it said, 'Please say yes!'"

Vin Diesel predicts Furious 7 will win Oscar for Best Picture

Vin Diesel thinks 'Furious 7' will win the Oscar for Best Picture.
The 47-year-old actor, who stars in the latest instalment in the action film franchise, thinks the movie is worthy of recognition at the Academy Awards in 2016.
He reflected: "Universal is going to have the biggest movie in history with this movie.
"It will probably win best picture at the Oscars, unless the Oscars don't want to be relevant ever."
In fact, Vin claimed that no other movie made this year will match the "power" of 'Furious 7', which also stars Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez and Paul Walker, who died in a car accident in November 2013.
Vin told Variety magazine: "This will win best picture. There is nothing that will ever come close to the power of this thing."
The claim comes shortly after Vin revealed he "went through three boxes of tissues" on set after Paul Walker's death.
He shared: "I had always been the kind of actor that other actors respect. I was just failing so hard. My nose was running and my eyes were tearing. I had to walk off set and try to get all the fluids out. I couldn't contain my emotion ... It became the toughest film I ever had to shoot."

Beyonce to star in The Big Short?

Beyonce could be set to star in 'The Big Short'.
The 'Drunk In Love' hitmaker is rumoured to have joined the star studded cast of the upcoming film adaptation of Michael Lewis' book of the same name about the housing and credit bubble of the early 2000s.
Beyonce would be starring alongside Hollywood heartthrobs Brad Pitt, Christian Bale, Ryan Gosling and Oscar nominee Steve Carell in the movie written by and to be directed by Adam McKay.
Speaking on 'CBS This Morning' about how the film was scheduled to begin shooting in New Orleans yesterday (24.03.15), he said: "An incredible cast... Christian Bale, Ryan Gosling, Steve Carell... And I think Beyonce."
The 33-year-old star - who has three-year-old daughter Blue Ivy with husband Jay Z - last appeared on the big screen in 2009 when she starred alongside Idris Elba and Ali Larter in 'Obsessed'.
She has since voiced the character Queen Tara in the 2013 animated movie 'Epic' and shared screen time with Blake Lively and Jake Gyllenhaal in a teaser video for her joint 'On the Run' tour with Jay last year.

Cara Delevingne would ‘rather die’ than play a ‘sexy girlfriend’

Cara Delevingne would "rather die than play" a "sexy girlfriend" in a film.
The 22-year-old model dreamt of being a film star as a youngster but grew frustrated with the industry after becoming known for her modelling work as it meant she began being typecast as shallow characters.
She revealed: "The first time I did Fashion Week, I was like, 'Right, I might as well give up on acting because I'm screwed'.
"And as soon as I became a model, I was being sent typecasting roles as the stupid blonde who gets killed really quickly, or the sexy girlfriend, or whatever. Roles I would rather die than play.
"I was ready to give up on it. Or not give up, but take a break."
However, the star - who has modelled for the likes of Burberry and Chanel - has several films including 'The Face of an Angel' and 'Paper Towns' coming out this year, and was thrilled to even secure auditions for the movies because they are "serious" roles.
She explained: "When I finally got a serious role to audition for, I cried on the phone, I was so happy. Not even a film, just an audition."
And despite securing work in numerous films, the actress confessed she still finds herself getting angry with the way films are made because the creators can be sexist.
She told Time Out magazine: "Every movie I've done I've had to fight for lines and fight for point of view. Usually it's a male director, male producers. It's all very much a man's point of view.
"I speak up and say, 'Girls don't do that'. Or, 'That's not something a girl would say in that situation'. It's about how men perceive women and it's not accurate, and it annoys me!"

Emma Watson ready to be leading lady

Emma Watson believes she's ready to be "carrying films".
The 24-year-old actress recently completed filming on 1970s-based thriller 'Colonia', based on a woman who gets drawn into the cult settlement Colonia Dignidad in an attempt to find her abducted boyfriend, and felt she was "ready" to take on the leading role having been a supporting actress for her whole career.
She explained: "It feels like I was building a portfolio over the last five, six years.
"Now I feel like I'm ready to really be carrying films. I'm really just ready now to focus on my career full time and go full steam ahead. It's exciting at the moment."
However, the actress - who starred as Hermione Granger in the 'Harry Potter' films, and has since featured in 'The Bling Ring' and 'The Perks of Being a Wallflower' - admitted the harrowing nature of the film took its toll on her.
She told Total Film magazine: "I was essentially playing a girl living in a concentration camp. It's tough emotionally, putting yourself in that place every day. So it was gruelling. But I really wanted to try. I really hope I've done it justice for people who actually really lived it and really experienced it.
"It felt like the right thing to do. It really challenged me. It really pushed me to the brink, this role."

Jennifer Lawrence to quit X-Men franchise?

Jennifer Lawrence says 'X-Men: Apocalypse' will be her last film in the franchise.
The 24-year-old actress, who's starred as Raven/Mystique in the Marvel films, has revealed 'X-Men: Apocalypse' will mark the final time she appears in the role.
Speaking at the premiere of her latest film 'Serena', Jennifer was asked about the upcoming 'X-Men' movie, to which she told MTV News: "It is my last one, actually."
By contrast, Jennifer's ex-boyfriend and 'X-Men' co-star Nicholas Hoult recently revealed he'd like to continue with the franchise, even though he's only committed to one more movie.
He said: "This is the last one I'm signed up for.
"The first one did so well and [X-Men: Days of Future Past] got received so brilliantly. I have a good time playing [Beast] so I'd keep making them."
Meanwhile, Jennifer's 'Serena' co-star Bradley Cooper recently confessed she made fun of him during her sex scenes for their new movie.
The pair have previously worked on 'American Hustle' and 'Silver Linings Playbook', but that didn't curb the awkwardness, according to the Hollywood star.
He shared: "You never know how it's going to be. But for us, we laughed most of the time."
And then Jennifer quipped: "I pointed and laughed."

Ansel Elgort distances himself from Spider-Man link

Ansel Elgort isn't sure if he's the right actor to play Spider-Man.
The 21-year-old star, who is known for appearing as Caleb Prior in 'Divergent' and Augustus Waters in 'The Fault in Our Stars', has been linked to the coveted role since it was announced Andrew Garfield would not be returning, but he's cautious about taking on such a big commitment.
Asked about playing the iconic superhero, he told Screenrant: "I like Captain America, I thought that was a dope film, really cool but I don't know, I've never done [a superhero role]."
Later, he added: "I think it would be a big thing to do and a big commitment."
Meanwhile, Ansel recently revealed he doesn't find his 'The Fault in Our Stars', 'Divergent' and 'Insurgent' co-star Shailene Woodley "sexually attractive".
The hunk is adamant there's never been any romantic tension between the pair because he doesn't see her in that context.
He said: "Me and Shailene have a really platonic relationship. I've never once wanted her sexually, which is nice.
"But for me, if a person is someone I'm attracted to, and she's my best friend, hopefully we're dating."
