Reese Witherspoon will play Tinkerbell in Disney's live-action remake of the film.
The 39-year-old actress will star as the little fairy - made famous in 'Peter Pan' - in 'Tink', and will be replacing Elizabeth Banks, who has been attached to the film since 2010, as the producer as well, alongside Victoria Strouse - co-writer of Pixar's upcoming 'Finding Dory' - writing the script.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, this latest take on Tinkerbell will "play with the idea and timeline of the well-known Peter Pan narrative," and will take the angle of telling "the story you don't know", just like 'Maleficent' did with Angelina Jolie. However, 'Tink' is being developed with a more modest mid-range budget as opposed to 'Maleficent''s $180 million and 'Cinderella''s $95 million.
Since Elizabeth announced she was playing Tinkerbell with a "mischievous nature" in 2010, Disney has released 'Maleficent', 'Jack and the Beanstalk' and 'Cinderella' as live-action movies.
Disney has also announced upcoming remakes of 'Dumbo', 'Mulan', 'Pinocchio' and 'The Little Mermaid', as well as the cast for a remake of 'Beauty and the Beast', including Emma Watson, Ewan McGregor, Ian McKellen and Emma Thompson, production of which will begin later this year with the film scheduled to open in March 2017.

Chris Evans feels "incredibly comfortable" playing Captain America.
The 33-year-old actor has confessed he was nervous when he first landed the role because he was worried comic book fans wouldn't accept him but now, having starred as the superhero in a number of films, he's comfortable enough to mix things up.
Asked if it's easy to slip back into character, he said: "Absolutely. When you first take on the role, it's intimidating, and you're scared the fans may not accept you. Now, I feel incredibly comfortable with it, and that's when you start trying to challenge the character and forge new territory."
The 'Avengers: Age of Ultron' actor is set to appear alongside Robert Downey Jr's Iron Man in the next instalment in the Captain America franchise, 'Civil War', but insists his character - who is also named Steve Rogers - will still be the main focus.
He told Total Film magazine: "I think [directors] the Russo brothers are dedicated to trying to make sure this does stay a 'Captain America' film. It is ultimately Steve Rogers' struggle in the film, even though we do have so many characters.
"Marvel know how to strike a balance and how to use the movie as a jump off to the 'Avengers: The Infinity Wars'."
Evans also spoke of his excitement at having Spider-Man come on board as well.
He added: "That's something you want to see as a fan! Y'know, personally, independent of my involvement as 'Captain America', that's something I'd want to see as a comic-book fan. That's going to be a real treat for a lot of the fans out there."

Sir Paul McCartney has written songs for the animation film 'High in the Clouds'.
The former Beatles star is producing the movie, which is based on a children's book of the same name which he co-wrote ten years ago, and will also lend his voice to one of the characters while Deadline previously reported that he had written seven or eight songs for the animated creation.
The soundtrack for the film is to feature a collaboration between the 'Four Five Seconds' hitmaker and Lady Gaga, who first sparked rumours she was working with Paul on an Instagram post back in February.
The post read: "Always a good time with my buddy. I'll never forget when he called me last year to work and I hung up the phone cuz I thought it was a prank!(sic)"
The 72-year-old star previously spoke about his excitement at being part of the team bringing the project to life.
He said: "High in the Clouds is a passion project for me. I am thrilled to be working in partnership with Randa Ayoubi and David Corbett at RGH, and David Michael Lynne and Bob Shaye of Unique Features. Working with the highly creative talent at these companies together with Josh Klausner and Tony Bancroft, we will be able to create a warm, funny and moving animated film that will resonate with worldwide audiences."
Meanwhile, Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready is also said to have contributed his musical talent to the upcoming project.
'High in the Clouds' will be directed by 'Cloudy with a Chance of Chance of Meatballs 2' filmmaker Cody Cameron and 'Date Night' screenwriter Josh Klausner.
A release date is yet to be announced.

Josh Gad burst into tears of joy when his daughter recognised his voice in the 'Frozen' trailer.
The 'Wedding Ringer' star - who voiced the snowman Olaf in the Disney blockbuster - recalled a proud moment during a visit to the cinema with his daughter Ava, who at just two-year-old recognised her father's voice and started laughing at him.
Speaking on ITV's 'Good Morning Britain' this morning (21.05.15) he recalled: "My daughter was two years old, I took her to see 'Monsters University' ... So I took her to see that and there was a little trailer beforehand [for Frozen] and Olaf had no dialogue he just laughed, did this little goofy laugh, and she looked at me the first time he laughed and she said, 'Dada, more Dada', and she was two years old and I literally started crying, I was so touched."
Josh - who also has 15-month-old daughter Isabelle with his TV producer wife, Ida Darvish - also confessed he's only starting to experience how annoying the hit song 'Let It Go' is when sang repeatedly by your child.
Speaking about how his young daughter has started reciting it constantly, Gad added: "I'm starting to live the nightmare that every parent complains to me about."

Tinie Tempah has his sights set on acting in films.
The 26-year-old rapper - whose last single 'Lover Not A Fighter' failed to reach the UK Top 10 - has revealed that he's keen to train as an actor, and is hoping his friends Idris Elba and Chiwetel Ejiofor can help him.
Speaking to The Sun, Tinie said: "I'm interested in doing acting classes. We know one of the guys from one of the biggest production companies here. Hopefully there'll be a right time for that kind of stuff. When I do that I want to focus on it properly.
"Idris is a good mate of mine, Chiwetel as well. They can hook me up with a good coach."
While he's interested in getting into the movies, the 'Pass Out' hitmaker is releasing a new single with Jess Glynne next month.
Tinie - whose last LP was 2013's 'Demonstration' - will release 'No Letting Go' with the songstress, who had a worldwide hit with Clean Bandit with 'Rather Be'.
Speaking about how he discovered Jess, the rapper previously revealed: "I've been a fan of Jess since I heard her song 'Home'. We met properly at the BRITs last year and spoke about doing something together. We both had crazy summers and kept bumping into each other at festivals. We eventually set a date for studio with Bless Beats who produced the track and it just kind of happened."

'Toy Story 4' will be a "brand new chapter".
Pixar animator John Lasseter has teased details about the fourth instalment in the popular animated franchise - set to be released in June 2017 - revealing the plot will not follow on from 'Toy Story 3', which was released in 2010.
Speaking about the production at Cannes Film Festival, he said: "We're in the early stages of the film, but it's shaping up nicely. It's funny. The story is not as much a continuation of the past films, but a brand new chapter in the 'Toy Story' world."
John, who is the Chief Creative Officer of the studio, also mentioned another upcoming film, 'The Good Dinosaur', which tells the story of an Apatosaurus named Arlo who loses his father and gets lost, meeting a cave-boy named Spot as he attempts to make his way back home.
Commenting on the production, director Peter Sohn said the film is, "striving for a very unique tone, unlike any animated film made.
"I think our next movie asks the biggest 'what if?' of all. What if the asteroid that wiped out dinosaurs actually missed earth?"
Other films previewed at the event include 'Zootopia', 'Moana' and the much-anticipated 'Finding Nemo' sequel 'Finding Dory'.

Apple inspired some of the futuristic ensembles in 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens.'
Costume designer Michael Kaplan, who previously worked on 'Blade Runner' and 'Fight Club,' has revealed the technology company heavily influenced the contemporary stormtrooper armour in the upcoming film.
Asked how he approached the project, he said: "With the stormtroopers it was more of a simplification, almost like, 'What would Apple do?' JJ [Abrams, director] wanted them to look like stormtroopers at a glance but also be different enough to kind of wow people and get them excited about the new design."
Kaplan claims none of the original costumes were suitable for the new movie, which is set to be released on December 18.
He explained: "Audiences of today have become so sophisticated that a lot of things you could get away with in the past, you can't anymore.
"These new ones are much more heavy-duty, but they are redesigned, too, they're not the same stormtroopers.
"I mean, it would be a little odd to have the same stormtroopers this much later when Leia and Han are so much older."
Meanwhile, Kaplan looked at Nazi uniforms when it came to revamping some of the other costumes.
He said: "The Rebels are kind of wools and natural fibers, cottons, and the Empire is very hard-lined, almost like Thierry Mugler. Very kind of edgy. The haircuts are these three-quarter parts, which were big in the 1930s, so that's kind of recalling something from the past. Slicked back and very hard-lined, yeah. Well the Nazi thing was always there with the Empire."
