Brie Larson: Being a generous actor is so important

Brie Larson loves "being a generous actor".
The 26-year-old actress stars alongside child star Jacob Tremblay in upcoming movie 'Room', in which she plays his mother Ma in the tale of a mother and child trapped in a basement by their captor.
Brie knew that building a connection with Jacob was incredibly important to ensure the film was a success, and thoroughly enjoyed that aspect of the movie making process.
She explained: "I agreed to do this movie, I agreed to take responsibility for this child. It wasn't just going to be that once we yelled 'cut' that my job was over. Building a real relationship and a deep friendship with Jacob was incredibly important to the experience of making the movie. So it was important for him so he could feel comfortable, and it was important to me as well that we really had such a close connection, that there was a lot to work with. A lot of space for the two of us to play.
"I really love being a generous actor. I think for me it's the greatest thing, is to be a good listener, and this is just turning the volume up on being a good listener. Some of my own performance and my own preciousness with my performance had to be put aside in order for everything to be for him."
'Room' is based on the best-selling book by Emma Donoghue, and Brie was a fan of the story as soon as she picked up the novel.
She added to Deadline Hollywood: "I read the book in a day, and could not put it down, and just cried at so many points, particularly at the escape sequence, and felt so much anxiety. I was so invested in them as these two characters. That was the beginning of it."

Joss Whedon makes ‘clean break’ from Marvel Studios

Joss Whedon he has made a "clean break" from Marvel Studios.
The 51-year-old filmmaker left the blockbuster-making-machine after the release of 'Avengers: Age of Ultron' - which he helmed - but insists they parted ways very amicably.
Reflecting on his time with the comic book studio, he explained: "I was their sort of consigliore for a while ... We do not discuss our thing. But, I sort of had my finger in all of the films in the second phase, but then I just had to concentrate only on 'Ultron', and sort of knew when it was done I was just going to stop ... So I made a completely clean break - not because we had a falling out - just because I was like, 'I can't...' If I was still there going, 'Well, here are my thoughts on this film,' I'd be there every day. I wouldn't do anything else because there are a lot of films, and it is a lot of fun. It's very seductive ..."
Whedon had duties for Phases One and Two of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
He directed both 'Avengers' films and even contributed to the creation of 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'
However, 'Age of Ultron' signalled the end of their working relationship.
Whedon told Cosmic Books News: "When you can put your little fairy dust on things and just improve them slightly, and they actually listen to you ... I was a script doctor for a long time, and the part where they listen to you was very rare; so it was very important for my own self to go 'We can still be friends,' but..."

Indian actor Deepika Padukone has also been name-dropped for 'xXx 3'.

Paul Walker to be represented in Fast and Furious 8

Paul Walker will be "represented" in 'Fast and Furious 8'.
The late Hollywood actor - who died at the age of 40, after a tragic car incident in Santa Clarita, California, in 2013 - is going to be featured in the eighth film in the blockbuster franchise in "some form or another", NBC Universal vice-chairman Ron Meyer has announced.
Asked if Paul's character Brian O'Conner will be in the movie, Meyer said: "Paul won't be in it, but he'll be represented in some form or another, but whether his image is in it, I can't tell you yet, but he won't be in the film as a performer, as an actor, the way we did it last time."
In 'Fast and Furious 7' Paul's image was shot using CGI and his younger brother, Cody Walker, 27, played the body double of his character Brian O'Conner.
Universal's Ron also promises the film will be much-like the other films without Paul.
He added: "It will still be 'Fast and Furious,' it will just be without Paul."
Elsewhere, actor Vin Diesel - who reprises his lead role as Dominic Toretto - teased that the upcoming movies will be a lot darker and this will be brought out by 'Straight Outta Compton' director Gary Grey.
Vin told Variety: "We have a director who is going to bring the darkness out and bring out the character."
'Fast and Furious 8' is expected to be released on April 14, 2017.

Halloween film dropped for 2016

The new 'Halloween' film has been cancelled.
Bob Weinstein - co-chairman of The Weinstein Company & Dimension Films - promised to deliver "one of the scariest instalments" in the iconic Hollywood horror franchise's history this year.
But Dimension, which owned the franchise for over two decades, has lost the rights meaning the slasher film has been dropped for 2016.
According to EmpireOnline.com, the horror movie's rights are now with Dimension's parent company Miramax and are being thrown around between other studios.
The movie could end up in the hands of a studio like Warner Bros. who own the rights to 'A Nightmare On Elm Street' and 'Friday the 13th' meaning 'Halloween' killer Michael Myers could end up facing off against those series' respective villains Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees.
'Freddy vs. Jason' saw the two slasher icons battle each other in 2003.

Emily Blunt’s Victorian role led to Sicario casting

Emily Blunt's role as the Queen of England in 'The Young Victoria' led to her being cast in 'Sicario'.
The 32-year-old actress star as FBI agent Kate Macer in the tense thriller, but is amazed it was a period drama that caught the eye of director Denis Villeneuve.
She said: "Of all the films, he saw me in this role where I play the Queen of England, which is so bizarre. I'm literally in a bonnet and a flowery dress for the whole thing. But I think that character had that sort of mix of vulnerability and strength that he wanted for this."
'Sicario' also stars Benicio del Toro and Josh Brolin and was praised by critics for its tough subject matter and pace.
And Emily jumped at the chance to appear in the movie.
She told Deadline Hollywood: "I think the ambiguity of it, morally and psychologically, was really appealing to me because so many films are very clear cut, and I think I miss that about the old seventies films where so much is left to the power of suggestion. I think that 'Sicario' has that ability.
"I thought it was complicated and uncompromising in a way. So I loved that, and I loved that you weren't given a huge amount of backstory. You know she needs a new bra, you know that she's gone through a divorce, but that's it.
"That's literally all that you're told, and so the need to invent and create a whole inner life for this person was a challenge and was something that was really exciting for me."

Gary Oldman: Crowdfunding is the future

Gary Oldman thinks crowdfunding is the future of filmmaking.
The 57-year-old actor appears, via motion capture technology, as Admiral Ernst Bishop in new PC game 'Star Citizen: Squadron 42' - a $90 million project created by Chris Roberts and funded by fans - and the 'Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy' star can see the finance model increasing in popularity in Hollywood because it perfectly suits "supply and demand".
He said: "It's an ingenious way of going straight to the fans. This is exciting for these gamers and their involvement, and it's a project that can raise that kind of money.
"Maybe this is the future of filmmaking. You do really cut out literally everyone and just go straight to the fans. It's supply and demand. You go to the people and say, 'Look, we have this idea. It's going to cost so much. It's about this and it's about that.' And they say, 'Yeah, we would like to see that.' "
But Gary believes it is only a matter of time before crowdfunding becomes subject to taxation and other restrictions.
He added in an interview with Vulture: "I'm sure they're going to find ways of controlling it and taxing it eventually. The government will get wise to something like this."

Matt Damon backs Ridley Scott for Oscar victory

Matt Damon is hoping 2016 will see 'The Martian' director Ridley Scott win an Oscar.
Ridley has been nominated for the Best Director Academy Award on three occasions, for 'Thelma & Louise', 'Gladiator' and 'Black Hawk Down', but has never won.
But Matt thinks this could be the year that Ridley emerges victorious.
He said: "Ridley is just a master director. There are a handful of them on planet Earth. But he is one of them. Awards - whatever, who gives a f**k. I mean, except for this one. But ... I hope this is his year.
"I don't know if you're supposed to say that out loud. But ... when I did 'The Departed,' we said it out loud a lot about Martin Scorsese and it panned out."
Matt was speaking at the opening night gala for the Palm Springs International Film Festival in California over the weekend.
The Oscar nominations are set to be announced on January 14, with the ceremony itself taking place on February 28.
'The Martian' told the story of Matt's astronaut character Mark Watney having to battle for survival after being left stranded on Mars.
The film was widely praised for its mixture of tense dramatic scenes and comedic moments, as well as the incredible images of space it featured.

‘Brave’ Leonardo DiCaprio

Leonardo DiCaprio is incredibly "brave", according to the director of 'The Revenant'.
Filmmaker Alejandro González Iñárritu has revealed the 41-year-old actor took no convincing when it came to the more gruelling scenes for the adventure film and admits he even had to stop him from going too far at some points.
He said: "I have never had such an easy relationship with somebody. He couldn't be more brave or more collaborative, and even encouraged me to do more things. I didn't have to convince him at all. I even had to prevent him sometimes."
And whilst Alejandro enjoyed filming for the movie, he admits it was "super-challenging" every step of the way.
He told The Observer newspaper: "What I'm saying is, every step was super-challenging, it was stressful, the standards I set the film to were absolutely high. When that stress is not for you, I respect that. The ones who stayed, which is 99.9%, we hold a friendship and camaraderie.
"Were we laughing all day? No! We were working like hell to make it happen! It was like Shackleton, when he went to the pole, he said [to his companions], 'You probably will not return.' [I said:] 'These are gonna be the conditions, this is how we're gonna shoot it.'"
