Ben Stiller: Anna Wintour made Zoolander 2 ‘happen’

Ben Stiller says Anna Wintour made 'Zoolander 2' "happen".
The 50-year-old actor - who stars as the titular character in the comedy film - believes he has the editor-in-chief of Vogue magazine to thank for the film's success as she has been an "incredible partner and supporter" of the movie.
He said: "The first time around, we didn't have the fashion world really aware of what we were doing. And Anna Wintour did put Derek Zoolander in Vogue, which was an amazing thing for Derek.
"And then, this time around, [she] was a huge part of making the movie happen, an incredible partner and supporter of the process of making the movie."
Meanwhile, Ben suffered tough criticism about the film's sequel from his 13-year-old daughter, who was less than impressed that he had cast Justin Bieber in the movie.
Ben's wife Christine Taylor previously revealed: "Our daughter - who is almost 14 - but of all of the 14 year olds on the planet, she is the one child who is like, 'Dad, I get it, everyone loves Justin Bieber, but I'm not one of them.'
"Benedict Cumberbatch? Let's not get started. Ella, our daughter, is obsessed with 'Sherlock', obsessed with Benedict, so Ben's street cred' rose in huge amounts the minute that she found out that Benedict was a part of the movie."

Will Ferrell brought pony on to set of Zoolander No. 2 for Ben Stiller

Will Ferrell's best day on the set of 'Zoolander No. 2' was when he surprised Ben Stiller with a Shetland pony.
The 48-year-old comedian - who stars in the films as evil fashion genius Jacobim Mugatu opposite Stiller's titular character Derek Zoolander - recalled desperately wanting to play a prank on his co-star, and succeeding, who is also the sequel's director.
Speaking about his plan to make Ben laugh, he said: "The best day on set was when I had a Shetland pony delivered to Ben for May Day. I had thought to myself, 'You know what? One of these days I'm going to surprise Ben with a pony!' And I did!
"When it came he was so excited he was crying. I've never heard Ben's voice go into such a high pitch squeal, he was like, 'Oh my god, a pony!' And then he went, 'OK, back to work.' "
The comedy sequel once again parodies the fashion world and also modern day celebrity culture.
And Will thinks the movie's characters have now become an "iconic symbol" for the fashion and entertainment industries with stars such as Justin Bieber, Kanye West, Demi Lovato, Miley Cyrus and Jourdan Dunn all clamouring for cameos in the sequel which is in stark contrast to the difficulties Ben had when trying to get guest stars for his original 2001 film. The 48-year-old actor said: "That's what so bizarre, is that I don't think Ben could get anyone in the fashion world to be a part of the first one because they were just fearful, and now he's become an iconic symbol not only of poking fun at them but representing them and that's a rare thing when you can create a character that does that. So I don't think there's any backlash, I think they just love any sort of celebration whether it's positive or negative."
Meanwhile, to celebrate the launch of 'Zoolander No. 2, Vue is bringing the glamour and flair of the 'FROW' - the fashion show front row - to the back row of the cinema, the 'BROW'.

Christian Ditter: How to be Single taught me about women

Christian Ditter says his new film 'How to be Single' taught him a lot about the "mystery" of women.
The director felt worked with an all-star female cast for the movie which included Rebel Wilson, Dakota Johnson, Leslie Mann and Alison Brie and although his family is mainly made up of ladies he learnt a lot more about the fairer sex on set.
Speaking at the UK premiere of the comedy at the Vue Cinema in London's Leicester Square, he told BANG Showbiz: "For myself, I have a mum and a sister, and a wife and two daughters but it is always still a mystery, but that is a great thing about making films with female characters that you always find out a little bit more.
"The women in this movie are all incredibly talented actresses and comedy geniuses. So having them on set it was a strange mix of me encouraging them to go off the rails a little bit. Then also bringing them back onto the rails, which wasn't always easy because they were having so much fun."
Ditter undertook extensive research including quizzing the cast to ensure he produced an honest portrayal of contemporary relationships and avoided mocking the single life.
He said: "'How to be Single' is a snapshot of today's generation, what it means to them to be single, and all the fun and the challenges and the surprises that come with it.
"Our aim was to make a film that was real for this generation and I researched everybody involved, the screenwriters but also the actresses. I would always ask them, 'Does this feel real to you?' If not real then I wanted to stay away from clichés and turn it into a joke.
"So I think it does feel very real to an American audience and for me as a European, people are similar all over the world."
The 38-year-old filmmaker - whose previous work includes 'Love, Rosie' - wishes there had been a movie like 'How to be Single' around when he was a bachelor to alleviate his fears.
He mused: "When I was making this film, I thought, 'Why didn't anybody show me this movie when I was single?' Because I would have felt so much better about myself "

Charlize Theron in talks for Fast 8

Charlize Theron is in talks to star in 'Fast 8'.
Vin Diesel confirmed last week that the blockbuster racing series - which has so far been comprised of seven movies since its inception in 2001 - will run for three more movies and Deadline has reported the 'Monster' star is set to join the cast of the 2017 release.
The script is currently being created and director F. Gary Gray and screenwriter Chris Morgan have included a fierce female villain in the saga, and they are reportedly bidding for the South African star to fill the role.
Gray and Theron have worked together before on 'The Italian Job' remake, while the 40-year-old actress was last seen in George Miller's multiple Oscar-nominated film 'Mad Max: Fury Road' as warrior Imperator Furiosa.
Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson - who plays Diplomatic Security Service agent Luke Hobbs - will reprise his role in the eighth movie and it has been confirmed by NBC Universal vice-chairman Ron Meyer that Paul Walker, who tragically died in an unrelated car accident halfway through filming of 'Fast and Furious 7', will also feature in the 2017 release in "some form or another".
In 'Fast and Furious 7' Paul's image was shot using CGI and his younger brother, Cody Walker, 27, played the body double of his character Brian O'Conner.
The remaining sequels will be released in April 2017, 2019 and 2021 respectively.

Rebel Wilson handpicked leading man

Rebel Wilson handpicked which extra she wanted to kiss on the set of 'How To Be Single'.
The 35-year-old actress was asked by the movie's director to choose who she wanted to smooch and her chosen man was incredibly thankful for it.
Speaking on Late Night with Seth Meyers, she shared: "But then the choice was which one? So an assistant director comes out and he's like, 'OK, if anyone doesn't want to kiss Rebel Wilson, go to that side of the room.' Only a few went ... It was really embarrassing because then they made me parade around the 'available' men and I had to choose a handful to kiss in various scenes.
"So one of the guys I picked was this African American guy ... And I got to kiss him in the scene and then at the end of the day he came up to me, just before I was going into my trailer, and he said, 'Rebel, I want you to know that you choosing me out of all those guys made my life.' At least he didn't go home and go, 'Oh my God, guess what I had to do today?'"
Meanwhile, Rebel previously joked she got drunk to prepare for her role in the comedy.
She said: "In the film we are playing single girls in New York City and we all have different ways of coping with being single. My way of coping is just by drinking a lot. [To prepare] I had to get smashed every night, but in a totally professional way."

Justin Theroux insists Zoolander 2 doesn’t mock trans people

Justin Theroux is adamant 'Zoolander No. 2' in no way tries to mock trans people.
The 44-year-old actor-and-screenwriter insists Benedict Cumberbatch's androgynous model character All is used to ridicule Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson, who play Derek Zoolander and Hansel McDonald respectively.
Although the LGBT community was offended when the first clips and images of All were revealed, Theroux - who co-wrote the film - is adamant once people have seen the movie they will realise what the point of Benedict's alter ego is.
Speaking to website HeyUGuys, the filmmaker said: "The joke is squarely aimed at two ageing models and idiots, and strangely the character is incredibly powerful, the most famous model in the world. I thought it was a very cool idea, so I was a little alarmed at the reaction. I say once people see it they'll realise, we're actually firmly on the side of transgender people.
"It's kind of like just dismissing the meal before trying the food. If you saw something out of context, you might feel offended."
'Zoolander No. 2' was attacked by protest groups prior to the film's release on Friday (12.02.16) with one petition set up to boycott the film receiving over 24,000 signatures.
The petition read: "Cumberbatch's character is clearly portrayed as an over-the-top, cartoonish mockery of androgyne/trans/non-binary individuals. This is the modern equivalent of using blackface to represent a minority."
In the film, Derek meets All for the first time and asks: "Are you, like, a male model or a female model?"
To which the character replies: "All is All."
Hansel then says: "I think what he's asking is do you have a hot dog or a bun?"
