Christian Bale to star in western Hostiles

Emily Blunt offered Mary Poppins role

Emily Blunt is reportedly close to agreeing to play Mary Poppins in a new Disney film.
The 32-year-old actress is set to become this generation's lovable nanny - who was brought to life in the 1964 movie based on the books by P.L. Travers - as she has been offered the prestigious role in the Rob Marshall directed reboot.
The part was made famous when fellow British star Dame Julie Andrews, now 80, made her feature film debut in the original at the age of 29 years old and won her first Academy Award for her performance as a nanny who comes to London to work for a banker's unhappy family, while Dick Van Dyke, now 90, played her closest friend and jack-of-all-trades, Bert.
Emily has met with the Walt Disney Company to discuss the project - has been pegged for the role after she became friends with the director and producers John DeLuca and Marc Plat on the 2014 magical drama 'Into The Woods'.
However, the actress recently discovered she is expecting her second child with her husband, 'The Office' star John Krasinski, and the news will undoubtedly affect her final decision or when filming can commence.
Marshall's movie will take place in London 20 years after the original movie was set.
It will follow storylines from more of P.L. Travers' children's books that focus on Mary's magical adventures with the Banks family.
Director Rob shared: "It is not a new 'Mary Poppins'. P.L. Travers wrote eight books all together. They worked from the first book, and we are working from the other books, not touching the iconic brilliance of 'Mary Poppins'.
"This is an extension. I'm a huge fan of the original, and I'm a very good friend of Julie Andrews, and I hold it in such awe. There is all this new material - it was the 'Harry Potter' of its time - and they were never turned into anything further than that adventure."
What's more, the director revealed he'd be keen to involve Julie Andrews in the project in some capacity.
He said: "She is a very dear friend, and if she could be involved in some way, it would be very special. I know she is very happy that we're doing it and, after 50 years, feels that it is time."

Jessica Chastain set for lead role in Molly’s Girl

American actress Jessica Chastain is in talks to star in Aaron Sorkin's adaptation of 'Molly's Game'.
The 38-year-old actress - who notably played Murphy 'Murph' Cooper in Christopher Nolan's 2014 film 'Interstellar' - is being lined up for this new film role which storyline is centred on Molly Bloom's memoir of life as a sport's star-turned-poker magnate.
A world-class skier since she could walk, she became a nationally-ranked business mogul at 21 while still excelling in college.
Molly just missed out on joining the Olympic team upon graduating and took a year off to live in Los Angeles, choosing the unlikely path of waitressing. Thanks to her business acumen, she ended up making millions by running the world's most exclusive high stakes poker game for eight years before the FBI came calling.
The film, which originally started off as an idea back in November 2014, is currently at the casting stages. Sorkin, who is creator of the West Wing, penned the film script and decided to stay on to make his directorial debut within the film. And he wants Jessica Chastain in the lead.
Jessica has yet to sign the paperwork as it's understood her hectic schedule is holding things up.
Jessica recently wrapped production for Focus Features' film adaptation of Diane Ackerman's novel 'The Zookeeper's Wife' opposite Daniel Brühl. And last week she stepped on set for the first day of filming for John Madden's 'Miss Sloane'.
And to add to her expanding film credits, she will next be seen alongside Chris Hemsworth, Charlize Theron and Emily Blunt in 'The Huntsman: Winter's War'.
But according to industry insiders she is keen to make 'Molly's Game' work, via her production company Feckle Films and with filmmakers yet to announce a start date - it looks like Sorkin has a bit more time to seal the deal.
Producer Mark Gordon secured the rights to the book and is working alongside former Sony boss Amy Pascal.

James Bond to be delayed to keep Daniel Craig?

James Bond bosses are willing to delay the next movie in a bid to keep Daniel Craig.
The 47-year-old actor looks set to step down as 007 in order to star in 20-part TV series 'Purity' but executives at MGM, who produce the franchise, have told him they will push back the 25th installment of the series to give him time to shoot the show and be back to play the suave spy for a fifth time.
A source told The Sun newspaper: "Daniel leaving the franchise at this moment is something MGM cannot stomach.
"He is a major draw and a key player in terms of raising money for the films. As Bond he has brought in $2billion.
"Daniel has not told anyone yet if he will return definitively.
"They know he wants to do 'Purity' and had hoped to get the new film in cinemas next year, but they have vowed to push it back a year to help make his schedule easier."
Pre-production on the next Bond movie is due to begin in the next few weeks, while Daniel is expected to begin shooting 'Purity' - which will be an adaptation of Jonathan Franzen's novel - later this year.

Judd Apatow: Critics of female Ghostbusters are just nerds

Judd Apatow says only "nerds" disagree with the all female line-up of 'Ghostbusters'.
The 48 year-old 'Trainwreck' director insists the fact Kate McKinnon, Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig and Leslie Jones have been cast as the paranormal fighting gang in the rebooted film - instead of four men like in the original 1984 movie - is an indicator that Hollywood has moved on from creating roles just to "serve the male parts of the story".
And he thinks the few people that disagree are a minority of stalwarts who are stuck in the past and probably live in their "parents' basements" and don't have much clout in the movie industry.
Speaking about how comedy is bringing women into the foreground, the filmmaker said: "Take the female 'Ghostbusters' I hear about, that I think (Paul) Feig is making with Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Lesley Jones and Kate McKinnon. That sounds awesome, but other people are less happy.
"Then again, I think sometimes the people complaining are 28 nerds in their parents' basements. Most people are thrilled they're going to make the movie and so they should be.
"Movies need both men and women and it should all equal out."
Apatow - whose previous work includes movies such as 'Knocked Up', 'The 40-year-old Virgin', 'Superbad' and 'Forgetting Sarah Marshall' - is married to 'The Vacation' star Leslie Mann and said in the early days of their marriage, the couple would discuss the issue of women being marginalised in film which inspired him to write better parts for the opposite sex.
Judd - who married Leslie in 1997 - told The Independent newspaper: "When my wife and I got married we would talk a lot about how bad the scripts were and how the female characters were just there to serve the male parts of the story and were really underdeveloped. I made a real effort in writing to go deeper and make stronger choices."

Captain America’s ‘struggle’ with Tony Stark

Chris Evans says 'Captain America: Civil War' will focus on Steve Rogers' "struggle with Tony Stark".
The upcoming Marvel movie puts special emphasis on the combative relationship between the pair, although Chris insisted that the emphasis is on his character.
He told Disney twenty-three magazine: "Even though there are a lot characters, the focus is on Steve and his struggle. Especially his struggle with Tony Stark...It's exciting to see a guy who's as optimistic and as selfless as Steve be met with letdown, betrayal, frustration, and selfishness. There are events and people in his life that test him - that challenge him and force him to reevaluate who he is and what he wants out of life."
The movie follows on from 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' in which he was betrayed by, S.H.I.E.L.D. and 'Avengers: Age of Ultron', where he discovered his allies are capable of duplicity.
Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige said: "We've seen it coming. The clues were there. When you watch the other films you see how Captain America and Iron Man fight the bad guys together, back-to-back, but they have differences. And there is something that happens in the world that divides them."

Octavia Spencer joins Hidden Figures cast

Octavia Spencer has joined the cast of 'Hidden Figures'.
The actress has joined 'Empire' actress Taraji P. Henson in the big screen adaptation of Margot Lee Shetterly's book 'Hidden Figures: The Story of the African-American Women Who Helped Win the Space Race', according to Variety.
Octavia's character has not yet been revealed but the movie will tell the story of three female African-American mathematicians -- Katherine Johnson, Mary Jackson, Dorothy Vaughan -- who were part of John Glenn's Friendship 7 space mission.
Taraji will play Johnson, while Octavia is reportedly set to play one of the other members of the trio.
Meanwhile, Octavia is set to reprise her role as Johanna, an Amity leader who helps the rebels, in 'The Divergent Series: Allegiant'.
Speaking previously about being cast in the franchise, she said: "I am a huge fangirl of the books so I was there opening weekend for 'Divergent' and then I had a friend come into town and went two days later to take her daughter. I love the fact we get to suspend our belief and become part of the Faction system and that I get to head up one of those factions it was really cool and the fact that we get to see some incredible visual effects and some great stunts by all of these actors and especially Shailene Woodley, it's exciting."

Saoirse Ronan to star in On Chesil Beach

Saoirse Ronan has joined the cast of 'On Chesil Beach'.
The role will be the second outing for the 21-year-old actress in a film adaptation of a best-selling novel from English writer Ian McEwan.
The Irish star first appeared as Briony, who was the jealous sister of Keira Knightley's Cecilia Tallis in McEwan's 'Atonement' in 2007 and she received her first Oscar nomination for her performance.
'On Chesil Beach' follows newly married couple Florence and Edward during their honeymoon in Dorset in the 1960s and is a tale of their enlightening journey of love.
Saoirse will play Florence, who voices her concerns about the wedding night, whilst her husband has his own insecurities regarding their flourishing relationship.
The male lead is yet to be cast but shooting on the project will begin later this year.
The film will be produced by Number 9 Films' Stephen Woolley and Elizabeth Karlsen - who also co-produced Oscar nominated movie 'Carol' - and Dominic Cooke will make his debut in the director's seat.
Karlsen previously worked with Saoirse on 2012 film 'Byzantium', a drama also set in a remote coastal location, and she is thrilled to be reunited with the star.
She said: "It's an extremely exciting prospect to be reunited with Saoirse Ronan on such a beautiful and heartbreaking project."

Mad Max: Fury Road leads Jameson Empire Awards 2016 nominations

'Mad Max: Fury Road' leads the nominations for The 21st annual Jameson Empire Awards with 10 nods.
The post-apocalyptic action movie sees Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron recognised in the Best Actor and Best Actress categories and filmmaker George Miller up for Best Director, a category in which he will face stiff competition from J. J. Abrams for 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens', Ryan Coogler for 'Creed', BAFTA winner Alejandro González Iñárritu for 'The Revenant' and Ridley Scott for 'The Martian'.
Elsewhere, 'The Force Awakens' received an impressive seven nominations, bucking the trend of other awards shows who have snubbed the sci-fi blockbuster, with breakout star Daisy Ridley up for Best Female Newcomer for her portrayal of Rey.
John Boyega - who picked up the EE Rising Star award at the BAFTAs for his performance as Finn in 'Star Wars' - is up for Best Male Newcomer.
Boyega is up against child stars Abraham Attah and Jacob Tremblay for 'Beasts Of No Nation' and 'Room' respectively and Thomas Mann for 'Me And Earl And The Dying Girl' and Jason Mitchell for 'Straight Outta Compton'.
