Zendaya Coleman is to star in Marvel and Sony's Spider-Man reboot.
The 19-year-old actress is said to have landed a "key role" in the as-yet untitled movie, which will see Tom Holland portray Peter Parker/ Spider-Man and be directed by Jon Watts.
According to Deadline, Zendaya looks set to portray a character called Michelle, but it's not known if she will be romantically involved with Spidey.
The website said: "Nobody is providing details on whether this is the romantic lead opposite Peter Parker, but it doesn't sound like it."
What's more, insiders told Variety that Zendaya had signed up to the movie, but insisted the star's character "is neither Parker's love interest nor a lead role".
But the singer is expected to have a "bigger part" in further installments.
Zendaya rose to prominence after landing the lead role of Rocky Blue in the Disney Channel TV series 'Shake It Up' in 2010.
The Spider-Man role will be her first huge movie on the big screen after previously voicing a character in straight-to-DVD film 'Super Buddies' in 2013, and starring as herself in short film 'Close Up' last year.
Holland will make his debut as the superhero in the Joe and Anthony Russo-helmed 'Captain America: Civil War', which is produced by Marvel president Kevin Feige and set to drop in April in the UK.
The as-yet untitled Spider-Man movie is slated to be released on July 7, 2017.

Jack Black thinks the only film he'll be remembered for is 'School of Rock'.
The Hollywood actor has appeared in several movies, including 'King Kong', 'The Holiday' and 'Tropic Thunder', but doesn't think anyone will recall him in any motion picture other than the 2003 US comedy film, for which he earned a Golden Globe nod for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy.
When asked what people will say when they look back on everything he's done, he added: "They'll just say that he was in 'School of Rock', and he was good in that. And that's good enough. I like having fun now. I don't think about my tombstone too much."
Jack has also lent his voice to panda Po in all three 'Kung Fu Panda' films and while there are huge names such as Angelina Jolie (Tigress), Jackie Chan (Monkey) and Dustin Hoffman (Shifu) voicing characters in the third film, he insists the "unsung hero" of the production is theatre actor Stephen Kearin.
He impersonates the other characters in the film when the actors record their voice parts one at a time.
Jack added to The Times magazine: "Sometimes he's not available. They'll say, 'We're going to bring in, uh, Larry from accounts. He's going to read the lines with you today.' And I'm like, 'No, he's not. Let me know when Stephen's available.' He's the unsung hero.
"He does an amazing one-man show with the unfortunate title Inside Out, so if you look it up on the internet, you'll never find it.
"It's a very precise science these guys are working with, so unfortunately I don't get to high-five Angelina Jolie every time I go into DreamWorks Animation."

Tom Hiddleston has admitted it would be an "extraordinary opportunity" to be offered the part of James Bond.
The 'Avengers' actor is one of many stars who have been linked with the coveted role of the suave spy - who is currently played by Daniel Craig - and has put himself firmly in contention for the part by admitting he loves everything about the film franchise.
He said: "Time magazine ran a poll and there were, like, 100 actors on the list, including Angelina Jolie. But, yes, it's nice to be included in the 100. I'm a huge fan of the series.
"We all went to see 'Spectre' when we were shooting 'Skull Island' in Hawaii. I simply love the theme tune, the tropes and the mythology. I love the whole thing. If it ever came knocking, it would be an extraordinary opportunity."
The 35-year-old star also admitted he has already thought about the physical aspect of the role of 007 and it hasn't put him off wanting to portray the character on the big screen.
He added to The Sunday Times newspaper: "I'm very aware of the physicality of the job. I would not take it lightly."
Following Hiddleston's comments, bookmaker William Hill has slashed odds on him taking over from Craig to 10/1 from 25/1.
Despite being interested in the part, Hiddleston is still an outsider in the betting with 'Legend' actor Tom Hardy currently 6/5 favourite.
He is followed by Homeland's Damian Lewis and 'Luther' star Idris Elba, who are both 5/1, while Aidan Turner - who plays Kíli in 'The Hobbit' movies - is 11/2.
There has been speculation aplenty that last year's 'Spectre' film would be Craig's fourth and final time portraying Bond.
The star recently threw his 007 future in doubt when he signed up for 20-episode US TV series 'Purity', and last year he said he would "rather slash [his] wrists" than portray the spy again.
While his representative last month denied the actor has quit the role, 'Grimsby' star Mark Strong appeared to confirm Craig will not be back as Bond.
He said: "I'd have loved to have played the villain in a Bond movie while Daniel was doing it because he's a pal and that would have been great.
"But I think he's come to the end of his Bond time and so it's probably never going to happen, but that would have always been great."

The second 'Assassin's Creed' movie is in the works - with Michael Fassbender reportedly on board.
The first movie based on the popular video game is to be released later this year with the Hollywood star set to appear as main character Callum Lynch/ Aguilar, and there are already said to be plans for a sequel.
According to website The Tracking Board, Fassbender looks set to star in and produce the second motion picture in the franchise.
The website states: "That the studio is already laying the groundwork for the sequel is hardly surprising, given the international appeal of both the game and its star, Fassbender.
"But sceptics of video game-based films may interpret this move as a sign of confidence from those involved that, unlike previous attempts to bring popular video game properties to the big screen, 'Assassin's Creed' could not only work - but thrive."
While the film takes the name from the Ubisoft game series, the storyline and character played by the 38-year-old star was specially created for the first film.
The 'Assassin's Creed' game franchise tells the story of the age old battle between the peace-craving Templars and Assassins.
The movie will see Lynch discover he is a descendant of the secret Assassins society when he delves into his past.

Angelina Jolie tickled her children to get them to laugh while they were doing their 'Kung Fu Panda 3' voice-overs.
The 40-year-old actress and husband Brad Pitt's kids Pax, 12, Zahara, 11, Shiloh, nine, and seven-year-old Knox lent their voices to characters Yoo, Meng Meng, Shuai Shuai and Ku Ku respectively in the animated movie, but the Hollywood star had to improvise to help them chuckle on cue during filming.
Speaking at the London premiere of the movie yesterday (06.03.16), co-director Alessandro Carloni told BANG Showbiz: "Angelina had to tickle her kids to make them laugh in the scene.
"You expect Angelina's kids to come and be professional actors, but they're not, they're charming and adorable little kids and she had to tickle them to make them laugh."
Co-director Jennifer Yuh Nelson added: "There's a little baby panda who climbs all over Po when Po meets them for the first time, those are Angelina's kids."
Angelina - who stars as Tigress in the movie - admitted her kids now think her job is "so easy" after witnessing the star lending her voice to the film.
Speaking on 'Good Morning Britain', she said: "I think it backfired a little because I did say, 'OK, you're going to come to mummy's work.'
"They see me on set every day doing things and directing but this was a moment of seeing me act - you're going to do some lines, you're going to act. They all went in, they took it very seriously and then in the car, they were like, 'That's what you do? It's so easy.' "
Jack Black reprised his role as Po, the main panda character, in the movie, which also stars Jackie Chan (Monkey) and Kate Hudson (Mei Mei).
It's not the first time Brad and Angelina's children have starred in a film - their seven-year-old daughter Vivienne appeared as Princess Aurora opposite her mother in 2014 dark fantasy movie 'Maleficent'.
'Kung Fu Panda 3' is set to hit cinemas on Friday (11.03.16).

'Star Wars' animator Phil Tippett took "way too much" LSD while working on 'Return of the Jedi' and climbed into a cupboard with his cat.
The visual effects producer took the psychedelic drug during production for the 1983 sci-fi movie and began talking to his feline friend, Brian, before the his four-legged pal took him "on a journey", but he ran in trouble at one stage when he couldn't bear to be in the same room as the blue screen because it was so bright.
Speaking in a short documentary made for VICE Films, he said: "I took LSD when I was working on 'Return of the Jedi'. I could communicate with my cat Brian, and Brian took me on a journey.
"I crawled into this cupboard with Brian the cat and we went to the centre of the Earth for like three billion years and I was just in this world of molecules. It was fine, it was very calming.
"I decided to go back to work and I was at ILM [Industrial Light & Magic] and I walked into the blue screen stage and it's huge - everything's just super illuminated bright blue - and it was just like 'Aaaah, I took like way too much.' "
Despite taking drugs during the production stage of the movie, it didn't appear to have an adverse effect on the animation as Phil went on to win his first Academy Award for visual effects in the motion picture.
The animator - who has also worked on 'Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom', 'Willow', and four of the 'Twilight Saga' movies - won a second Oscar for his work on adventure sci-fi movie 'Jurassic Park'.
Phil was also a supervisor on the Millennium Falcon chess scene in the latest 'Star Wars' movie, 'Episode VII - The Force Awakens'.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt has quit the 'Sandman' movie.
The 35-year-old actor made a production deal in 2013 with Warner Bros. to develop the screen adaptation of the Neil Gaiman classic comic, but the project was shifted to New Line Cinema whom Joseph didn't see "eye to eye" with.
The 'Inception' star was set to direct and have a starring role in the film .
He wrote on Facebook: "So, as you might know if you like to follow these sorts of things, a while back, David Goyer and I made a producing deal with Warner Brothers to develop a movie adaptation of Neil Gaiman's SANDMAN. Neil himself came on as an executive producer, we hired the excellent screenwriter, Jack Thorne, and we started in on the ambitious task of adapting one of the most beloved and boundary-pushing titles in the world of comics. I was pleased with the progress we were making, even though we still had quite a ways to go.
"Recently, as you also might know if you like to follow these sorts of things, the sorta "ownership" (for lack of a better term) of the Sandman material changed hands when Warner Brothers shifted the entire catalogue of Vertigo comics (an imprint of DC) to their subsidiary, New Line. And a few months ago, I came to realize that the folks at New Line and I just don't see eye to eye on what makes Sandman special, and what a film adaptation could/should be. So unfortunately, I decided to remove myself from the project. I wish nothing but the best for the team moving forward."
Following the announcement, Gaiman took to Twitter to admit he had "undiminished" respect for the "special" actor.
He wrote: "And, for the record, my respect for @hitRECordJoe, is undiminished. Getting to know him was the best bit of the last round. He's special (sic)".

Disney are in talks for 10 more 'Star Wars' films following the success of 'Episode VII - The Force Awakens'.
The franchise already has five further movies, two trilogies and a hat-trick of spin-offs, planned and executives are reportedly discussing another quintet of the sci-fi motion pictures for after 2020.
A source said: "The success of 'The Force Awakens' has given executives much to think about.
"So many characters' back-stories and futures can now be brought to life. When these ideas came from George Lucas 40 years ago, technology was lagging behind. Now they can be turned around in a year."
'Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens' director J.J. Abrams - who won't be helming the upcoming eighth movie, handing over the reins to Rian Johnson - has admitted there are some "exciting" times ahead for fans of the franchise.
He told The Sun newspaper: "There are some really cool things being discussed. It is very exciting to see how it is being put together."
Of the solo 'Star Wars' movies being talked about, there is expected to be one made about Obi-Wan Kenobi, who was played by Sir Alec Guinness and Ewan McGregor in previous movies.
McGregor was last year rumoured to be in talks with Disney about a possible trilogy of films based on the legendary Jedi Master.
What's more, Mace Windu - played by Samuel L. Jackson in 'Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace', 'Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones' and 'Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith' - could also get his own spin-off.
Last year, director A.J. Edwards admitted he was in talks to helm a 'Star Wars' movie based on the Master of the Order.
When asked by a fan on social networking service Reddit if there is any truth to the rumours he might be directing a future film in the franchise, he wrote: "Talking about it, not able to say a lot yet," and he added: "It will focus on Mace Windu."
The next two movies in the trilogy are due to drop in 2017 and 2019, while Han Solo and Boba Fett movies are expected in 2018 and 2020.
Spin-off 'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story' - which stars Forest Whitaker, Felicity Jones and Mads Mikkelsen - is to be released in December 2016.
