Mantra Of The Cosmos gig cancelled as Zak Starkey suffers serious leg condition

Zak Starkey is suffering from a serious leg condition, which forced his band Mantra Of The Cosmos to pull out of their Soho party performance on Tuesday (21.01.25).

The drummer – who is the son of Beatle Sir Ringo Starr – has a blood clot in his right leg and has been prescribed with blood thinners and told to rest for two weeks.

This meant that their planned set at the Karma Sanctum Soho was axed, leaving the 59-year-old musician “devastated”.

The supergroup – completed by Happy Mondays stars Shaun Ryder and Bez and former Oasis bassist Andy Bell – recently played two shows at The Cavern in Liverpool to launch their latest single, ‘Domino Bones (Get Dangerous), which features Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher.

Shaun quipped to guests at the Soho bash: “As soon as I get out of here I’m going to take some tights to get on Zak’s legs.”

They then aired a clip from last weekend’s Cavern concert and Bez admitted they “felt like the Beatles” performing at the iconic venue that helped launch the legendary Liverpool band’s career.

Introducing the footage, he said: “First of all can I say how special it was to play the Cavern with Zak Starkey. He’s never been to the Cavern before and it felt special…It was better than anything I ever imagined in my life. I couldn’t believe how good it was.

“To play there…I had to show off right at the end: ‘His f****** dad’s Ringo Starr! Know what I mean? We felt like the Beatles – well I did for a little moment!”

Rocker Yungblud was among the guests in attendance.

Zak admitted he was “s******* my pants” before playing The Cavern for the first time on Sunday (19.01.25).

The former Oasis drummer had only visited his father’s home city once before and had never stepped foot inside the venue despite his dad’s history there.

Ahead of the gigs, Zak contacted Noel for some reassurance.

He told the Liverpool Echo: “It was very surreal. I was s******* it – proper s****** it until I got on there and it was amazing. The music is like holy music isn’t it.”

Recounting his conversation with Noel, he added: “Before I was s******* my pants. I was sitting in my room, and I text Noel saying I was s****** it. He said, ‘Get down there and get on, what are you talking about?’”

Zak spoke about his parents going on dates to The Cavern before making his debut.

The musician – whose late mother Maureen worked as a hairdresser in Liverpool – said: “Can’t believe I’ve never even been there.

“There’s a great deal of family heritage at the Cavern, aside from the Beatles, my parents courted there… who knows I may have even been conceived there.”

Fans of Mantra Of The Cosmos can expect a new album to follow the release of ‘Domino Bones (Get Dangerous)’.
