King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands will be in Canada from May 27 to May 29.
As part of a state visit to the North American country, the royal couple will be visiting the University of Waterloo, where they will visit the research labs at the Institute for Quantum computing and watch the first 70 Canadian students receive scholarships to study in the Netherlands.
According to the Dutch government, the 70 scholarships were created together with several Dutch-Canadian companies to symbolize the 70 years since the end of the Nazi occupation in the Netherlands, which Canadian troops helped end during the Second World War.
Following their trip to Canada, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima will visit the United States for the first time since the king succeeded his mother Queen Beatrix in 2013.
The three-day official visit to the United States will be to celebrate the strong economic ties between the two countries.
While Stateside, the royal couple will travel to Grand Rapids, in Michigan, where Governor Rick Snyder and First Lady Sue Snyder will host the Royal couple during their visit, and he has said he’s "proud" to show them around the state with the largest Dutch-American population in the country and many family and street names reflecting the Dutch pioneers who settled there.
