Disney’s ‘Star Wars’ spin-off will be titled ‘The Mandalorian’.
The upcoming TV series is being developed for the company’s own streaming service with ‘Iron Man’ director Jon Favreau writing and producing.
Taking to social media, Favreau confirmed the name of the show and revealed a synopsis which read: "After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the ‘Star Wars’ universe.
"’The Mandalorian’ is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follows the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic."
Favreau previously confirmed his series will take place after the Battle of Endor in ‘Return of the Jedi’, and before the sequel trilogy which began with ‘The Force Awakens’.
Meanwhile, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has praised the ‘Jungle Book’ filmmaker and promised the show will feature a "diverse group of writers and directors".
She said in a statement: "I couldn’t be more excited about Jon coming on board to produce and write for the new direct-to-consumer platform.
"Jon brings the perfect mix of producing and writing talent, combined with a fluency in the Star Wars universe. This series will allow Jon the chance to work with a diverse group of writers and directors and give Lucasfilm the opportunity to build a robust talent base."
The spin-off is set to be a big part of Disney’s launch for its streaming platform – alongside possible Marvel projects focused on Tom Hiddleston’s Loki and Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch- which is set to be available in 2019
