‘Cool’ Queen Elizabeth

J.B. Gill says Britain’s Queen Elizabeth is "surprisingly cool".

The former JLS singer met the monarch when the group played the Diamond Jubilee concert in London in June 2012 and he says he and his bandmates – Aston Merrygold, Oritse Williams and Marvin Humes – were stunned to learn she was familiar with their music.

He said: "We met the queen at the Diamond Jubilee concert and she is surprisingly cool. She named all of our songs."

While J.B. enjoyed meeting the queen, his particular career highlight was when the band – who shot to fame after competing on ‘The X Factor’ in 2008 – picked up two prizes at the 2010 BRIT Awards.

He said: "This was the moment I knew JLS had made it. We won a BRIT for British Breakthrough Act and British Single and it was an unbelievable time.

"So many artists haven’t won any BRITs and we got two."

And the ‘Beat Again’ hitmaker admits the group never expected to be so successful.

He told Closer magazine: "I look back on my time on ‘The X Factor’ and think what an absolute blast we had.

"It was a complete crash course in the music industry and we didn’t know whether we’d sink or swim. But we had more success than I ever imagined possible."
