Britain’s Prince William will today (16.07.14) launch a World War One parks scheme in Coventry.
The 32-year-old royal is scheduled to visit Coventry’s War Memorial Park in the West Midlands of England to award it the special status to commemorate the 100th anniversary of World War One.
The park is to be one of 500 green spaces dedicated as a Centenary Field and its change in status will be confirmed in a ceremony performed by the Duke of Cambridge today (16.07.14).
The scheme, run by Fields in Trust, is designed to protect parks and other areas for future generations and land owners are also being encouraged to donate land for public use.
Prince William, 32, will lay a wreath in Coventry’s War Memorial Park before unveiling a plaque and he is also expected to watch local children as they take part in sporting events and plant poppies.
Fields in Trust said the project – which is to run until 2018 – would "honour the memory of those who gave so much in World War one by securing recreational spaces in perpetuity".
