Bobby Davro: Television needs family entertainment shows

Bobby Davro has called for TV bosses to bring back the family entertainment shows that were a staple in the schedules in the 1980s.
The 60-year old comedian made his name in that decade on Saturday night ITV shows such as ‘Bobby Davro on the Box’, ‘Bobby Davro’s TV Annual’ and ‘Bobby Davro’s TV Weekly’ and he thinks the main broadcasters are missing a trick by omitting those types of shows from their programming.
Davro insists he’s ready to return, he’s just waiting for the call.
Speaking to BANG Showbiz, he said with a smile: "They should bring back shows with entertainers like me!"
Although he thinks there’s a lack of fun-filled family friendly shows on TV, Bobby is a fan of many of the comedians you see on the small screen.
He said: "Henning Wehn’s very good, I like Henning, he’s a lovely man. I like Hal Cruttenden, Lee Mack, Tim Vine and I also really like Frank Skinner. I always go and catch Frank’s shows when I can."
Davro is appearing in new programme ‘Celeb Bri Tea On The Bus’ which is on London Live from this Friday (13.09.19) at 7pm and as well as that he’s enlisted the help of some of his showbiz chums for a charity fundraiser.
The former ‘EastEnders’ actor is about to put on his seventh charity bash for Woking & Sam Beare Hospices who cared for his late mother, Janet Nankeville, whom he’s already raised thousands through fundraising.
He said: "It’s a really good little show and all my mates to do it. It’s on October 27, Jim Davidson did it last time, Shakin’ Stevens, and hopefully Gilbert O’Sullivan’s going to do it this year. We’ve had Des O’Connor, Lee Mack. This time we’ve got Matt Sterling from ‘Britain’s Got Talent’, Lee Mead – who was married to Denise Van Outen – and a big band of course … I can’t wait."
Davro insists when he was asked to to take part in ‘Celeb Bri Tea On The Bus’ along with TOWIE’s Harry Lee, John Altman – famous for playing ‘EastEnders’ villain ‘Nasty Nick’ – and ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!’ contestant Lady Colin Campbell it was a no-brainer to say yes because he gets the chance to have afternoon tea on a bus with his fans.
Davro said: "I like the format of it, have glass a vino a cup of tea and some sandwiches – very nice."
