Blythe Danner ‘begged’ Gwyneth Paltrow not to end marriage

Gwyneth Paltrow’s mother is "really upset" about her split from Chris Martin.

Blythe Danner, 71, reportedly "begged" the Oscar-winning actress not to end her 10-year marriage because she is a huge fan of the Coldplay frontman, 37.

A source told UsMagazine.com: "[She’s] really upset. She loves Chris. She begged Gwyneth not to end it, that he’s a good man. But Gwyneth had to do what she felt was best."

The former couple, who have daughter Apple, nine, and son Moses, seven, announced their separation on Tuesday (25.03.14) and revealed they had been working to save their relationship for more than a year.

The insider added: "They really tried to make it work. You could tell something was wrong, though, over the last few months. You could see a sadness in each of their eyes."

The ‘Iron Man 3’ actress, 41, previously admitted that she asked her late father Bruce Paltrow, who was marriage to Blythe for 33 years, for relationship advice before his death from cancer in 2002.

She said: "I asked my dad once, ‘How did you and Mom stay married for 33 years?’ And he said, ‘Well, we never wanted to get divorced at the same time.’ I think that’s what happens. When two people throw in the towel at the same time, then you break up, but if one person’s saying, ‘Come on, we can do this,’ you carry on."
