Arctic Monkeys to return with charity single this week

Arctic Monkeys are dropping a brand‑new charity single on Thursday (22.01.26) — their first release since 2022.

The Sheffield indie icons, who have kept fans guessing during a long period of silence, will break their hiatus in support of a cause close to their hearts.

The excitement kicked off when War Child Records posted a teaser on Instagram announcing “a new track from @arcticmonkeys” alongside details of an upcoming project aimed at helping children living through conflict. The non‑profit had already hinted that a collective of artists were collaborating on something “important,” but confirmation that the Monkeys are involved has sent fans into overdrive.

Drummer Matt Helders and longtime producer James Ford fuelled the frenzy by sharing the announcement on their Instagram Stories, adding further weight to speculation that the band have quietly been working behind the scenes.

It marks the first substantial movement from the group since wrapping their tour in 2023. Their last album, The Car, arrived in 2022, and the band have maintained an unusually low profile ever since — a silence that only intensified curiosity about their next chapter.

Hints of a comeback began bubbling up last year. In May, frontman Alex Turner made a rare public appearance at the Music Week Awards, surprising attendees when he stepped onstage to present manager Ian McAndrew with The Strat Award. The moment sparked immediate whispers that the band were gearing up for something bigger.

Fans also noticed subtle but telling changes online: the removal of The Car’s album artwork from the band’s official website and the sudden appearance of a new newsletter sign‑up page. Then came the discovery that Turner, Helders, Jamie Cook and Nick O’Malley had registered a new company — BANG BANG RECORDINGS LLP — on Companies House, a move widely interpreted as preparation for fresh activity.
