Vicky McClure phones her mum when she loses out on acting roles

Vicky McClure phones her mother when she gets rejected for acting roles.
The 33-year-old actress – who starred in BBC police TV series ‘Line of Duty’ and Indie film ‘This Is England’ – still struggles to come to terms with getting snubbed from parts she’s set her heart on and finds it easier to get over the rejection by speaking to her mother over the phone as soon as she hears back from bosses.
Speaking to the Daily Mirror newspaper, she explained: "What I do is, I ring my mum and say, ‘that was my part’ and I am really annoyed. The reality is, of course, I am gutted. If I have gone to the audition it is because I wanted it and got some attachment to it. I have spent time at home preparing for it and then you don’t get it. And it hurts. That will continue to my dying day."
However, she hasn’t been rejected for every role, and will return to TV screens later this month in the three-part psychological thriller ‘The Replacement’.
The series is based in Glasgow and follows a woman who sees her identity being dismantled and can’t work out whether she’s just being paranoid.
Pregnant career woman Ellen, played by Morven Christie, hires some maternity cover in the form of Vicky’s character Paula and, although at first she appears to be the perfect candidate, it soon becomes apparent that something is wrong.
Speaking about the new show, director Joe Ahearne said: "Everyone can identify with the anxiety of seeing someone do their job as good or better than you can.
"Most of us have the secret fear that we’re not good enough and feel envy when we see others navigating professional and social situations more suavely than we think we can manage. Someone going on maternity leave and having to deal with a temporary replacement seemed like a great way to explore this."
‘The Replacement’ will hit television screens on February 28.
