Sir Bruce Forsyth felt "stale" towards the end of his time on 'Strictly Come Dancing'.
The legendary entertainer presented the show from 2004 to 2013, but has revealed he found the role of the main presenter to be "lonely" and is glad he no longer fronts the popular BBC programme.
Sir Bruce, 86, said: "I was beginning to maybe feel a little bit stale, and I'm glad I stopped."
'Strictly Come Dancing' is now presented by Claudia Winkleman, 42, and Sir Bruce's former co-host Tess Daly, who has subsequently assumed a more significant role on the show.
Speaking about 45-year-old Tess, Sir Bruce told 'Alan Carr: Chatty Man': "She is lovely, but of course she's taken over my spot in the show - all the talk about Claudia, Claudia taking my place - she wasn't. She was taking Tess' place, up in her penthouse suite where all the nonsense goes on.
"So [Tess has] taken over my job, and I said to her, 'That job in Strictly is quite a lonely job', because you're on and off all the time, up and down the stairs, introduce this and that, but you don't actually meet anybody on the show, you don't have a conversation with anybody on the show.
"It's a very lonely job to be the 'top host', shall we say, for want of a better word, to be on and off all the time - it's a much more difficult job, and you do feel lonely."

Simon Evans wants his own 'intellectual' panel show.
The 49-year-old comedian - who previously starred on the BBC Two comedy series 'Mock The Week' and Dave's 'Dara Ó Briain: School of Hard Sums' - has confessed he would love to host his own television show but is hoping to get involved in something "more serious", with a "more civilised atmosphere".
He exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "I have said that I would like to do something a little bit more serious than Mock the Week and that approach where it's all been prepared beforehand and the idea is to just have that machine gun rate that you go at.
"I always used to like those slightly more discursive ones, like a parlour game that you might play, like Pictionary... those games I kind of enjoyed, where it was more gentle, more civilised atmosphere."
'The Comedy Store' star - who recently released his 'Live At The Theatre Royal' DVD of his sold out show on the iconic Brighton stage - would cast some of his favourite comedians, including Dara O'Brien and Al Murray, on the show but would also like to invite journalists and politicians who could be both "funny and intelligent" enough to get involved.
He said: "There's some people you'll have heard of who I think are brilliant and I enjoy their company and talk to and get along with. Al Murray - the pub landlord, and Dara O'Brien. And others who I really enjoy but who are not so well known but who I think are very interesting.
"I would love to host a format in which there were some comedians but also some journalists and politicians and so on, or interesting, intelligent, intellectual people who could engage with one another and it would be funny but intelligent at the same time."
Simon added that he wouldn't have time for "rubbish" celebrity guests on his show.
He said: "No, no celebrities. Celebrities are rubbish. Don't want celebrities on there. It's a horrible word."
Although he would make an exception for his pal, fellow comedian Frankie Boyle.
He said: "But Frankie Boyle remains a friend, shall we call him a celebrity? He's funny."
Simon Evans - Live At The Theatre Royal is available now on DVD and Digital Download, released by Universal Pictures (UK).

Jake Wood won't dance again after 'Strictly Come Dancing'.
The 'EastEnders' actor has surprised everyone with his snake hips on the BBC One celebrity dance contest but he's revealed he has no plans to carry on dancing once the show's finished.
He said: "People are going to be expecting me to dance but I don't think I can go out and freestyle.
"I don't know what people expect from here on in but I can't see myself getting up. I'll go back to sitting, nodding my head."
The 42-year-old star - who plays womaniser Max Branning in the BBC One soap - claims he had no idea he'd be so successful on the show, because he'd always avoided the dance floor at parties.
He told The Sun newspaper: "I've never danced before, I've never had a lesson, I don't dance at a wedding or a party. So I had no idea.
"I think I've always had these hips but they just needed a bit of guidance.
"I don't know where it's come from, there's nothing in the family tree that I know of. God knows."
Jake doesn't want to continue his new skill because he doesn't know anyone that would live up to his professional partner Janette Manrara.
He added: "I've been spoilt by this world-class tuition. What do I do? Go to the village hall and do waltz classes?
"It's world-class training and I don't see where you go from there. I'm enjoying the experience then I think I'll leave it."

Joan Collins refused to be nasty on screen.
The 81-year-old actress - who plays hotel chain chief executive Crystal Hennessy Vass in the ITV comedy 'Benidorm' - requested the director change a scene in which her character was particularly nasty to the Solana hotel manager Joyce Temple Savage, played by Sherrie Hewson.
According to Sherrie, 64, Joan is the "best actress in the world" at playing bitchy characters but struggled to get through the scene as she worried she was upsetting her as the pair filmed the upcoming seventh series earlier this year.
Sherrie told the Daily Star newspaper: "My character has a massive run-in with Joan Collins' character.
"Crystal likes having a dig at Joyce and putting her down. Usually Joyce doesn't fight back, and Crystal likes that.
"Crystal is a bitch and Joan is the best actress in the world at playing that type of character. But she is lovely in person.
"In one scene Joan has to be particularly nasty to me. She turned to the director and said, 'I can't say this to Sherrie. Look how upset she looks. I adore her!'"
Also set to return to the series, which will air next year, is Jake Canuso, who stars as lothario barman Mateo.
The 44-year-old actor confessed there is trouble ahead for Mateo - who resorts to cosmetic surgery after worrying he looks too old to pull girls.
He said: "He gets Botox because young girls are starting to call him a pensioner. It required a lot of prosthetics. We only did it for one episode otherwise it would have been too much work.
"The hotel salon Blow and Go becomes a back-street Botox clinic. They run out of proper Botox, so they start using something that paralyses people's faces!"

Edwina Currie is feeling "sexually frustrated" in the 'I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here!' jungle.
The former Conservative MP has confessed to enjoying admiring campmate Jake Quickenden's physique on the ITV reality series and 'Allo, Allo!' star Vicki Michelle, 63 - who was voted off last night (04.12.14) - has revealed they've all been missing their significant others.
She said: "Everyone's a little bit sexually frustrated - some more than others.
"Edwina does talk about it quite a lot, but in a fun way and she's a sexy mama."
The 68-year-old star - who is the oldest campmate - expressed her delight at seeing former 'X Factor' contestant Jake, 26, working out using logs as weights.
She said: "There you go. Wonderful sight isn't it!
"When you get older one of the frustrations is you see young bodies - and young bodies are just awesome.
"Just to sit and watch Jake doing his exercises and doing a bit of stretching and so on. Mmmm, that's an old lady's dream."
And although Jake seems to be more interested in TV presenter Melanie Sykes, former Playboy model Kendra Wilkinson and evicted campmate Nadia Forde, he did admit that he'd "fallen in love a little bit" with Edwina.
He also described his "horny" elder as "Shakira" after she showed off her dance moves and snake hips.

Kelly Brook turned down a role in 'EastEnders'.
The 'Piranha 3D' actress has revealed she met with producers of the BBC One soap but decided she wanted to see if she could make it across the pond in the United States first.
She said: "I was approached by 'EastEnders' a while ago, but I wanted to go to American first and try other things.
"They were creating roles, so it was a general chat about what kind of role I could do on the show, it was a good discussion.
"I could see myself as a barmaid in the Queen Vic, I'd love it, I think it would be so much fun."
The brunette recently wrapped on comedian Ellen DeGeneres' new sitcom 'One Big Happy' and is hoping it will go further.
Kelly the Daily Mirror newspaper: "I think we're making something really special.
"We've done six episodes, but I hope it gets picked up for a full 24 episode season.
"It's nice to go away and work with different people. If it gets picked up I'll be there [in California] eight months of the year, but I'll always come back to Britain."

Davina McCall says the cast of 'The Jump' is "amazing."
The reality show - which premiered in January 2014 - follows celebrities attempting to master a variety of winter sports, and host Davina claims the participants in the second series will be even better than those in the first.
Speaking at the 2014 Cosmpolitan Ultimate Women Awards, where she won the Ultimate Editor's Choice prize, in London on Wednesday (03.12.14), she said: "Oh my god, I am so excited! I got a list of all the names today, I can't tell you because I was told I would be shot, but it's amazing casting. A-mazing."
The show's first series featured former 'The Only Way Is Essex' star Amy Childs, presenter Anthea Turner, and cricketer Darren Gough, with singer Joe McElderry winning the competition.
Former England rugby player Mike Tindall - who is married to the Queen's granddaughter Zara Phillips - has already been confirmed for the second series which will begin next year, and the mother-of-three teased a line-up of equally high-profile stars.
Davina told BANG Showbiz: "One might be worried that we've already peaked [by announcing Mike Tindall] but we haven't. He's right up there with the rest of them, that's the kind of calibre we're talking about this year, and they want to come and injure themselves, it's amazing. It's going to be amazing."
The 47-year-old presenter also teased more extreme stunts for the upcoming episodes, admitting she was surprised when she heard about the sports which Channel 4 plan on airing live.
She said: "I was looking at some of the ideas for the show and I thought maybe they'd have toned it down a bit but they haven't. There is a horrific, horrific live event which will be happening live which is so scary. I looked at it today and I was like 'god no way!'"
