Jamelia clashed with Laurence Fox on 'Bear Grylls: Mission Survive'.
The 'Loose Women' presenter visited Costa Rica with the actor - who plays Detective Sergeant James Hathaway in the TV drama 'Lewis' - for the survival reality show but revealed there were arguments between them because they are both such strong characters.
She said: "My main issue was with Laurence. He's an alpha male and I'm an alpha female.
"I was very scared of everything early on in the series and I was having meltdowns, so I feel that I initially established myself as the wimp of the group and it was hard to change that hierarchy. But internally I was having all these experiences and they strengthened me until I was back to being 'strong Jamelia' - but Laurence wasn't willing for me to establish that position and I think we ended up clashing quite a lot."
Despite the confrontation she faced on the programme - which sees the stars embark on a 12-day survival mission - the 34-year-old singer-songwriter believes the experience has made her a stronger person.
She added to OK! magazine: "It was the most intense experience I have ever had. I feel that I walked out with so much - I felt empowered and stronger. It was everything that I expected it to be and more. I'm a huge fan of Bear Grylls. Whenever I used to watch his shows I used to think, 'Oh my god, look at that!'
"In that environment everything seemed like it was life or death. It felt like if I didn't do certain things I was going to die. I know that sounds so extreme but that's how it felt."
The show - which starts on ITV on February 20 - will also feature The Wanted star Max George, double Olympic champion Dame Kelly Holmes, comedy actor Tom Rosenthal, model Vogue Williams, former rugby player Mike Tindall and 'Silent Witness' actress Emilia Fox, Laurence's cousin.

Lucy Watson hopes to have children in the future.
The 'Made In Chelsea' star has revealed that while she's not overly keen on the idea of having kids at the moment, learning to look after her pet dog Digby and cat Darcy has made her realise she could be a good mother.
Asked if she thinks she'll have kids in the future, she exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "I hope so! I'm not a huge fan of children but since having pets I think I would be different if they were my own."
The 23-year-old beauty confessed she would love it if her pets could learn to speak in the same way a baby does as she often wonders what they're thinking about.
She shared: "[If they could learn to speak] I would be so happy. It's really hard to understand what's going on in their little brains sometimes."
Lucy - who has joined forces with the National Geographic Society and Big Cats Initiative to help stop poaching, save habitat and raise awareness about what needs to be done to protect big cats around the world - went on to admit that although a potential boyfriend wouldn't have to have pets of their own, they would have to be an animal lover.
Quizzed on whether she'd like to find a boyfriend who also has pets, she said: "Not necessarily, just someone that likes animals."
The stunning brunette - who has urged cat owners to take part in the #MyBigCatCelfie campaign as part of Nat Geo WILD's Big Cat Week by posing for her own selfie with Darcy - is passionate about the cause and would love to get more involved in charity work.
She explained: "It's important to me because it is educating people on something I really care about and I want more people to care about it! I can't imagine a future without these majestic creatures. We're the only ones that can change that."
Asked if she'd consider going on a trip to campaign about the issues, she added: "I would absolutely love to do that. I know I would be slightly out of my comfort zone, but I'm always open to learning."

Linda Henry has been cleared of racially aggravated harassment.
The 'EastEnders' star - who plays Shirley Carter in the BBC One soap - was accused of verbally attacking Iyabo Adetokunbo in a row outside the restaurant Jamie's Italian in Greenwich, south east London, in September after being asked to pick up a cigarette butt.
The 55-year-old actress entered a not guilty plea after being accused of calling the woman a "n*****" and vowed to fight "tooth and nail" over the claims she racially abused Iyabo and her colleague when they attempted to issue her with a fixed penalty notice for littering.
Linda allegedly asked the pair: "Do you know who I am? I'm Shirley."
When asked to clarify that the details she had provided the officers with was correct, Iyabo claims the actress - who has a 21-year-old daughter Ellie with husband Stavros Virilis - "arrogantly" launched the verbal attack.
Linda - who was charged under married name Virilis - was cleared of the charge at Bexley Magistrates' Court where she claimed she would never have used the "repulsive" term, reports BBC News.
When asked if she had abused the officer, Linda told the court: "Absolutely not. I would swear on my children's life, deathbed even."
According to the Daily Mirror newspaper, District Judge Nigel Dean said of his verdict: "Ms Varilis is of previous good character, which means that she has enhanced credibility, in addition to which she is someone who does not have the propensity of behaving in the way that the Crown allege that she did on the occasion in September."

Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen will never go on 'Strictly Come Dancing' because he doesn't want to dance with anyone other than his wife.
The 49-year-old television personality and homestyle consultant claims learning to dance is too "personal" of an experience to share with someone he "barely" knows and therefore he has no plans to take part in the BBC One celebrity dance contest.
Quizzed on whether he'd ever be persuaded by offers of reality TV, he exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "I don't get excited about the idea of doing those shows unless it's a completely new idea and certainly something like 'Strictly' - I don't really want to be dancing with someone that I don't love. I think it's a very personal experience."
The former 'Changing Rooms' presenter - who has children Cecile and Hermione with wife Jackie - went on to reveal he isn't much of a dancer and usually turns to Dutch courage before taking to the dancefloor.
He added: "I'm very bad at dancing, certainly after half a bottle of gin I'll give it a go but I'm not going to do it with someone that I barely know."
Meanwhile, Laurence - who took part in ITV dance contest 'Stepping Out' with wife Jackie two years ago - insists he's too busy running his businesses and working on other projects to appear on 'Celebrity Big Brother'.
He added: "As for all the others, they're interesting but the thing is ... They're quite interesting celebrity devices for sorting out the wheat from the chaff really.
"I'm kind of a bit too busy. I couldn't really take three weeks out to go into the 'Celebrity Big Brother' house ... I've kind of got a day job and quite a demanding day job so there's no real need for those."
Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen is the interiors expert at this year's Ideal Home Show, returning to their original venue, Olympia London on March 20, 2015. For tickets visit www.idealhomeshow.co.uk or call 08448586763

Christopher Biggins and Patricia Hodge were among the celebrities to pay tribute to Lynda Bellingham at a memorial service yesterday (11.02.15).
The 66-year-old actor and the 'Miranda' star were among the 300-strong congregation at the service, which was held at St. Stephen's Church - where she married husband Michael Pattermore in 2008 - in central London to celebrate the life of the actress, who passed away from colon cancer in October at the age of 66.
Leading the tributes was Lynda's husband Michael who said: "Six years and nine months ago I stood here, about to marry the most beautiful woman in the world.
"I thought my heart would burst with happiness, and it did. This time my heart is bursting with sadness. I had 10 wonderful years with Lynda and that makes me a very, very lucky man.
"It breaks my heart that the one thing I could not protect her from was this disease called cancer."
The 66-year-old broadcaster Gyles Brandreth also spoke at the event, where he praised the star - who is best known for starring in a series of adverts for Oxo - for her bubbly personality.
According to the Daily Mirror newspaper, he gushed: "Love, laughter and friendship, those are the gifts Lynda gave us. Haven't we been blessed?"
"She showed us how to live and then how to die with such grace and kindness."
The service had been one of the 'Loose Women' panellists' dying wishes, having planned out the event for those who couldn't attend her funeral, urging friends, "If you're passing, do drop in for a quick boogie."
Elsewhere during the memorial, 'Birds of a Feather' actress Lesley Joseph read a poem titled 'Remember' which Lynda had penned for Michael shortly before her death, while Peter Delaney, who conducted the service, branded the service the second meeting of the Lynda Bellingham Appreciation Society following her funeral.
Following tributes from her friends and family, the organ played 'There's No Business like Showbusiness', after which guests were treated to wine and music.
Other attendees included her sons Michael, 31, Robbie, 26 and Bradley, 25, as well as author Lynda La Plante, broadcasters Paul Gambaccini and Penny Smith, and actresses Sylvia Syms and Amanda Redman.

Michelle Keegan has landed her first movie role.
The 27-year-old star has revealed she's "so excited" to be in talks to star in a feature film following her departure from the ITV soap 'Coronation Street' last year.
She told The Sun newspaper: "I have been offered a role, which is so exciting. It's a feature film.
"I can't say much more about it but it's a huge opportunity.
However, a member of Michelle's team has since spoken out to insist no contracts have been signed as of yet.
They told OK! magazine: "Nothing to confirm at the moment as there's a lot of offers still on the table but nothing has been decided yet."
The brunette beauty - who played barmaid Tina McIntyre in Corrie - recently wrapped filming on 'Ordinary Lies', her first TV project since quitting the soap, and she previously admitted she was worried the job would make her question her decision to leave.
Speaking at the time she said: "That first job after Corrie was either going to make me feel like I'd made the right decision or the wrong decision.
"But I wasn't homesick. Everyone was really welcoming. I'm feeling really positive about this year."
Meanwhile, Michelle is also preparing for her upcoming wedding to former 'The Only Way Is Essex' star Mark Wright.
Speaking about their upcoming nuptials - which are believed to be set to take place this summer - Mark said previously: "We loved the idea of getting married abroad but for both of us it wouldn't have felt right. That's not like a real wedding in a church in the way our mums and dads got married and we want our families to be there.
"This day will be how we always dreamt and hoped it would be."

Jessica Wright feels "disrespected" by Ricky Rayment.
The 'Only Way Is Essex' star is reportedly furious with her ex-boyfriend and cast mate after he began publicly dating 'Geordie Shore' star Marnie Simpson following their split.
Jessica, 29 - who dated Ricky, 24, for two years until he dumped her for being "boring" - was left in tears after the pair were spotted getting close at the National Television Awards in January.
A source said: "Jess feels Ricky is being hugely disrespectful. Behind the scenes she has shed real tears. She is shocked he has been able to move on so quickly."
The brunette beauty is even said to have banned her friends from becoming pals with Marnie, 21.
However, Ricky is said to be smitten with the reality TV star after being seen on a string of dates with her last weekend.
The source added to the Daily Mirror newspaper: "Ricky thinks Marnie is down to earth and laid-back like him, a far cry from his relationship with Jess."
While some members of the 'TOWIE' stars are currently shooting the upcoming series in Tenerife, one cast member noticeably absent from filming is George Harrison, who joined the show last year.
The blonde beauty - who briefly dated co-star Tom Pearce - has been dropped from the programme after bosses decided she didn't have enough "big storylines" set up to continue featuring her.
A source told The Sun newspaper: "Every cast member sits down with producers before each new series to talk about their future but George was told bosses didn't believe she had big enough storylines coming up."
It is also unknown whether show favourite James 'Arg' Argent will return following his suspension from the series last year.

Stephen Mulhern would walk a tightrope whilst juggling axes if he were to audition for 'Britain's Got Talent'.
The 37-year-old presenter - who hosts 'BGT' spin-off show 'Britain's Got More Talent' - has revealed he would choose to do something shocking and dangerous if he were to audition for the ITV talent show.
Asked what he'd try to wow judges Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and David Walliams, he joked: "I would do tightrope walking whilst juggling axes. I have given it a go once... My assistant is no longer with us, he didn't catch them."
The 'Catchphrase' star also admitted he's bored of seeing singers and dance troupes audition for the show and wants someone to do something really unusual.
Speaking at the London auditions of 'BGT' at the Dominion Theatre, he said: "I want to see an act that is just the weirdest thing I have ever seen in nine years.
"I don't want to see singing, I just want to see the originality of the guy who came about three or four years ago and got himself in a laundry bin, one of those big bags, and sang a song. That's the sort of stuff I want."
Meanwhile, presenters Ant & Dec have given hopefuls planning to audition some advice on how to approach it.
Dec said: "Don't slag the judges off before you get going, we've had that before. People have come out and said, 'Oh Amanda I love you, Alesha I love you, David I love you ... Simon, you get my on my nerves'. Immediately you're on the back foot, immediately that's one vote you're not getting.
"Someone came out the other day and had a go at Alesha for being rude so immediately, again, that was a no, no."

Georgia May Foote has split from her fiance.
The 24-year-old actress surprised her 'Coronation Street' castmates by revealing she had split from John Sage - who she got engaged to in 2013 - just a few days before filming her final scenes as Katy Armstrong, and insiders say she made the decision to focus on her Hollywood ambitions.
A source told The Sun newspaper: "She had her leaving do from 'Corrie' last week. She was telling everyone they'd split up and she was looking forward to a future acting career in America.
"Everyone was very surprised because she has always been very happy with him and never been interested in a showbiz lifestyle. But this will be a new start for her."
Georgia recently admitted she is "excited" to be leaving the soap after four-and-a-half years.
She said: "I'm very excited. I'm a bit sad as well, obviously I'm going to miss loads of people, the crew, the production team, my cast mates and all that, but I'm ready. It's been nearly five years now so it's a long stint to do there and I'm excited."
Georgia's character Katy will ditch the cobbles of Weatherfield for the sunshine of Portugal with her son Joseph after reconciling with her absent mother Linda Armstrong - played by former 'EastEnders' star Jacqueline Leonard.
She makes her decision after discovering her dad Owen Armstrong secretly prevented Katy and her sister Izzy from having a relationship with their mum.
