BBC bosses are planning to demolish the 'EastEnders' set.
The 30-year-old soap is set to get a facelift with bosses ready to tear down Albert Square at Elstree Studios in North London and replace it in order to modernise it and make it up to 20 per cent bigger.
According to the Mail On Sunday newspaper: "Changes include rebuilding character homes out of real brick to replace temporary facades in an effort to keep up with the demands of high-definition television, a new Tube station, a high street and new shops and businesses."
The Queen Vic pub - currently run by Danny Dyer's character Mick Carter - is the focal point of Albert Square.
EastEnders executive producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins said: "This is a really exciting project and firmly demonstrates the BBC's commitment to the future of 'EastEnders'.
"We have ambitious plans for the show and the new exterior set will help bring those to life and better reflect the East End of London on screen for audiences."
The plans were submitted to Hertsmere Borough Council in July.
According to the documents the current set will not be demolished until the new one is completed.

Cilla Black continued working in showbiz despite considerable pain from arthritis.
The 72-year-old singer-turned-TV presenter died from a stroke after falling and hitting her head at her Spanish villa just over a week ago but her close friend Sam Leach, 79, revealed that she had battled severe arthritis for years and had been in terrible pain even while working.
Speaking about filming 'The One And Only Cilla Black' two years ago to mark 50 years of showbiz for Cilla, he told the Daily Express: "During 'The One And Only Cilla Black' she appeared live. She was in absolute agony but you wouldn't have thought so - she was so brave.
"She was in real pain and deaf but she was a professional and wonderful woman and even sang on the programme. She has been in pain for years."
Cilla's good friend Barbara Windsor also revealed that Cilla had been complaining of minor ailments recently.
However, Barbara, 77, said despite her aches, Cilla was still as glamorous as ever.
She said: "I've seen her in the last few weeks looking immaculate - as always - but the last time I saw her I said, 'How's it going?' so she said, 'I don't feel too good, I've got a few aches and that. I said 'Darling haven't we all, haven't we all? We've got to face this haven't we?' but she laughed it off, you know, she said 'Oh but I don't like having the hearing aids and things like that' and I said, 'Well it's old age creeping in darling but look at us.'"

Rita Ora will be extra "flirty" on the 'X Factor'.
The 24-year-old singer admitted she likes to "play on the flirty thing" because it makes the contestants of the ITV singing contest feel "uncomfortable" and she said if you can put up with the flirting then you will be able to "handle" being on the show.
She said: "Even when I am at home I really play on the flirty thing. I do it because it makes them feel uncomfortable.
"If you can handle me flirting, you can handle being on The X Factor."
The 'Body On Me' hitmaker also said she is looking forward to being a judge and said she is going to be herself.
She told The Sun newspaper: "I'm really excited. I'm just going to be myself."
Meanwhile, Rita was recently caught up in a secret feud with 'Four Five Seconds' singer Rihanna who wasn't impressed by her ex Chris Brown's raunchy video with the blonde beauty.
Rita previously said the video with the 'Loyal' singer is "one of the most intimate videos" she has ever been in and Rihanna wasn't happy.
She previously said of the video for 'Body On Me': "The video has been shot, it comes out in a week and a half and I can't wait for you guys to see it. It's probably one of the most intimate videos I've ever done, but it's really exciting."
According to a source, Rihanna thinks the video is "a lack of respect" on Rita's part.
The source previously shared: "There's no lost love between them, but this is another example of what Rihanna perceives to be a lack of respect by Rita.
"Chris and Rihanna have a long history and she hit the roof when she heard about 'Body On Me' - especially the video."
The 'X Factor' returns to ITV1 later this month.

Ruth Langsford hates when people make unkind remarks about her "handsome and charismatic" husband Eamonn Holmes.
The 'Loose Women' presenter finds it frustrating when people focus on his weight because there are much more "interesting" things about him.
She gushed: "I have a huge amount of respect for Eamonn as a broadcaster. He also makes me die laughing, we have a great humour between us. We're very much in love and we have been for years.
"It is irritating when people go on about Eamonn's weight. I think he looks great for his age.
"I find him handsome and very engaging and charismatic. There's a lot more you could say about him rather than focusing on his weight - it's the least interesting thing about him."
Ruth and Eamonn have a 13-year-old son, Jack, together and the presenter feels "very lucky" to have him.
She told Woman magazine: "I didn't realise how lucky I was to conceive naturally in my 40s. It took seven months, which to me felt like forever, but then I spoke to my doctor who told me that's not a long time for a woman of 41. I didn't wait that long through choice.
"By the time I met Eamonn, I was concerned that maybe I wouldn't be able to have children so I felt very lucky.
"That's why I didn't push for a second child, because I just thought, 'Be grateful for this wonderful boy, conceived naturally, he's healthy and you're happy.'"

Colm Meaney wasn't into science fiction before starring in 'Star Trek: The Next Generation'.
The 62-year-old actor became a household name appearing as Chief of Operations Miles O'Brien on the Emmy Award winning show, set in the 23rd century on the star ship named Enterprise, and revealed he had no prior interest in the genre before signing up but soon realised it had "great value".
Speaking exclusively to BANG Showbiz, he said: "I was never into science fiction before I did 'Star Trek' but I started to see. I mean on that show we did some terrific episodes, dealing with contemporary issues and certainly the writers were very clever in terms of using the future to make a point about today. That way I started to see there was a great value in science fiction."
Colm went on to appear in successful spin-off series 'Star Trek: Deep Space Nine' and a host of Hollywood blockbusters during the '90s including 'Die Hard 2', 'Under Siege' and 'Con Air' opposite Nicholas Cage.
Nowadays Colm is put to task appearing in historical drama 'Hell On Wheels' as Thomas 'Doc' Durant who builds the railway after the American Civil War, but enjoys going back to the future for a catch up with his old pals Gul Dukat and Quark, played by Marc Alaimo and Armin Shimerman.
He explained: "That's what's good about the conventions from a lot of our points of view, is that there are so many people you haven't seen and it's a chance to catch up. We were very close for seven years, it's a long time to spend together. We used to do 26 episodes a year on that show ... We lived in each others pockets for a long time."
The complete fourth season of 'Hell On Wheels' is released on DVD on August 17 2015 from Entertainment One UK.

Peter Andre has signed a huge record deal with Warner Music.
The 'Mysterious Girl' hitmaker - who is also set to appear on 'Strictly Come Dancing' later this year - has also reportedly agreed a six-figure contract for his forthcoming LP with the major label, which has garnered artists including Ed Sheeran, Madonna and David Guetta.
The 42-year-old singer will embark on a nationwide tour of the UK, with two dates at London's O2 Arena after his stint on the BBC dancing contest.
A source told The Sun newspaper: "Peter is making sure that he capitalises on such a big TV gig.
It's going to be a very different sound from him as he's not planning to go down the pop or R&B route.
"It's massive for him to land a big deal like this so far into his career. Especially when he released his last album on his own label."
The news comes as Peter and new wife Emily MacDonagh had to cut their honeymoon short due to both of their tight schedules.
He previously shared: "I said last week that Ems and I were hoping to take the second part of our honeymoon later this year, but I don't think we'll be able to go until next year now.
"We're both so busy, which is, of course, great."
Peter's record deal news is expected to be officially announced on Monday (10.08.15).

Katie Price has compared her husband, Kieran's affair with her best friend as "like two people have been murdered for me".
The 'Celebrity Big Brother' winner has opened up in a new Channel 5 documentary called 'Katie Price: In Therapy' and even said she would like Jane Pountney - who had an affair with her husband last year - to "die in a car crash' or "get an illness she'd suffer and die from".
She told mental health practitioner Dr Claudia Benant on her forthcoming TV series: "My head is full of stress, upset and pain. I'm sad, hurt. What it's like -- when I caught them? It's like two people have been murdered for me.
"I know this is harsh but if Jane could die in a car crash or get an illness to make her suffer and she'd die from it, I'd be a very happy woman."
However, the doctor thinks Katie's anger towards Kieran - who she has two children, son Jett Riviera Hayler and daughter Bunny Hayler with - has something to do with her "early years" and the breakup of her parent's marriage, when her mother Amy left her father, Ray who had cheated.
Claudia said: "Two dads and one mum is a triangle. It still exists for you."
The former glamour model responded with a remark about her ex-husband 'Mysterious Girl' hitmaker Peter Andre, that when they were together it was a love triangle between them and his management.
Katie replied: "That's funny you say that because my first husband Pete (singer Peter Andre) -- it was always the management, Pete and me."
'Katie Price: In Therapy' airs on Channel 5 on August 25.

Rochelle Humes thinks being a parent will help her deal with the 'X Factor' judges.
The Saturdays singer - who has two-year-old daughter Alaia-Mai with husband Marvin Humes - is to co-host spin-off show 'The Xtra Factor' with DJ Melvin Odoom and already has tactics in mind to handle the "unruly" panel.
She explained: "I think when it comes to interviewing the judges on live TV, they can be a bit unruly so I'll just have to treat them the way I treat my husband and tell them, 'Listen, we've got a job to do here.'
"Being a mum will help. If I can deal with a two year old, I'm sure I can deal with the judges."
This year's judging panel is comprised of returning judges Simon Cowell and Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, along with newcomers Nick Grimshaw and Rita Ora.
Rochelle told HELLO!: "I already know Cheryl and Grimmy and I'm getting to know Rita and the big guy [Simon Cowell]."
Rochelle is excited by her new role, but is trying not to think of how huge the programme is or she'll get nervous.
She said: "I'm so chuffed to be doing it but I'm trying not to think about how big the show is and how many people are watching it."

Cilla Black's body has been flown back to the UK.
The 'Blind Date' host passed away suddenly last Saturday (01.08.15) after suffering a stroke in her villa in Spain and her body has now been returned to England ready for her funeral.
A source close to the case revealed yesterday (07.08.15): "Cilla Black's body was flown back to the UK this morning.
"She was repatriated on an Air Berlin-operated flight which left Malaga at 10.50am local time and touched down at Gatwick at 12.30pm.
"It was a normal passenger plane with a larger-than-normal cargo area for the special cargo it was carrying apart from peoples' luggage."
After arriving at Gatwick airport, she was taken to a funeral parlour in Denham, Buckinghamshire, close to where she lived with her late husband Bobby Willis who died in 1999 from lung and liver disease.
No details about when or where the funeral will be held have yet been released, although it is expected to take place in the nearby St Mary the Virgin Church, which is where Bobby's funeral was held 16 years ago.
The British icon's body has already been "embalmed and dressed" ready for the funeral.
A second source told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "Cilla's body was embalmed and dressed before the flight.
"She was taken directly from the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Malaga where the post-mortem took place on Sunday to Malaga Airport.
"The coffin had a zinc casing inside it which is a health and safety prerequisite for bodies taken on flights."
