Tristan Gemmill to meet Corrie fan after scare

Tristan Gemmill is to meet up with a guy from Canada who checked himself as a result of Coronation Street’s testicular cancer storyline and discovered he had a lump.
The 50-year-old actor will act as a tour guide to the mystery man and his wife when they jet into the UK to visit the ‘Corrie’ set, and Tristan has revealed the guy is thankfully "on the road to recovery" after having the lump removed.
Tristan – whose ‘Corrie’ character Robert Preston battled testicular cancer last year – said: "When we did the testicular cancer story, there was a guy in Canada who checked himself as a result and found a lump.
"He got it seen to in time and had it removed, and is now on the road to recovery.
"He and his wife are coming to the UK in a couple of weeks and I’m going to give them a tour of the ‘Corrie’ studios."
Tristan feels "proud" to be part of ‘Coronation Street’, particularly when he hears one of his plots has helped someone out in real life.
He added: "When stuff like that happens, you’re reminded that we’re actually doing this for a reason.
"We’re addressing important things which are having an effect on people out in the world – and we feel proud to be a part of that."
One of Corrie’s latest hard-hitting storylines sees Aidan Connor (Shayne Ward) take his own life, and Tristan is hoping the plot will encourage people to speak out about their issues.
He added to Inside Soap magazine: "There was a psychologist on set the whole way through the filming of Aidan’s story.
"So if personal issues come up for any of the cast or crew, there are avenues to go down to seek help.
"But we know we’re doing important work, and the feedback we’ve had has been overwhelmingly positive.
"Hopefully the Aidan story will help people talk to loved ones when previously they wouldn’t have done so."
