Tove Lo: It should be okay for women to be rock stars

Tove Lo has argued that it should be acceptable for women to be portrayed as "rock stars".
The ‘Fairy Dust’ hitmaker has a problem with the way females are portrayed in the music industry and thinks it is unfair that men can sing about sex and drugs without being judged and women can’t.
Speaking to Gulf News, she confessed: "It’s almost like if you’re a woman or girl, you shouldn’t want to be upfront and honest about maybe not being the ideal citizen.
"It’s okay to be a rock star if you’re a man, but not if you’re a woman."
However, the 29-year-old Swedish pop beauty thinks things are starting to change with artists such as Charli XCX and Rihanna pushing the boundaries and singing about whatever they want to.
She said: "It’s changing though, There are so many girls now who are so unapologetic, Rihanna being one of them, and Charli XCX and Lorde.
"Artists who are like, ‘Here’s what I’m going to do, here’s what I am going to say, and you can think what you want, but I’m still going to be me and not make excuses."
Tove – whose real name is Ebba Tove Elsa Nilsson – recently called for it to be OK for women to be seen naked and not be sexualised.
She said: "In the media whenever you see a naked woman it’s always sexualised, or to please someone else’s eyes.
"I want to get to a place where women can be naked the same way that men can – funny naked or naked just to be naked."
And the blonde beauty previously said she will never stop showing her breasts in public.
She shared: "I started just by showing a little bit of boob or just being sassy and everyone got so excited and then one night I just did it.
"I was like ‘Why should I not be able to do it?’ I should just do it if I want to and everyone gets so amped up and a lot of girls, and guys, are flashing me now and taking their clothes off. It gets very heated and I like that."
