Tom Petty ‘clinging to life’

Tom Petty is said to be "clinging to life" following his hospitalisation, despite reports claiming he has passed away aged 66.
The iconic musician was rushed to hospital on Sunday night (01.10.17) after suffering a full cardiac arrest, before the decision was made to take him off life support.
While CBS had previously reported that the singer had died, the Los Angeles Police Department has since clarified its statement to the news corporation.
A second statement posted on social media reads: "The LAPD has no information about the passing of singer Tom Petty. Initial information was inadvertantly provided to some media sources
"However, the LAPD has no investigative role in this matter. We apologize for any inconvenience in this reporting."
Now, gossip website TMZ – who initially reported his hospitalisation – have reported while Petty is not expected to survive through the day, he is "still clinging to life" after a chaplain was called to his hospital room.
It is said the family has a do not resuscitate order on the musician.
Last week, the singer concluded his tour – which began in April
earlier this year – at the Hollywood Bowl, and he previously admitted the run on the road would likely be his "last big one".
He told Rolling Stone: "We’re all on the backside of our 60s… I have a granddaughter now I’d like to see as much as I can. I don’t want to spend my life on the road. This tour will take me away for four months. With a little kid, that’s a lot of time."
Along with his group, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers became stars in 1976, going onto have a string of hits over a number of decades.
These included the likes of ‘American Girl, ‘Refugee’ and ‘I Won’t Back Down’.
He also spent time as a member of The Traveling Wilburys in the 1980s, and the supergroup boasted Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison, George Harrison and Jeff Lynne amongst its members.
