Tom Hanks in talks for Meg Ryan’s Ithaca


Tom Hanks is in talks for a part in Meg Ryan’s ‘Ithaca’.

The ‘Forrest Gump’ actor is reportedly being considered for a cameo role in the 52-year-old actress’ directorial debut – a coming of age saga set during the first World War.

The movie focuses on a small town in California’s San Joaquin Valley in 1942 and follows the story of 14-year-old Homer Macauley, a telegraph bike messenger caring for his widowed mother.

Hanks is in talks to star as Homer’s late father who will be introduced via flashbacks, while Ryan will play the young boy’s mother, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Band of Brothers’ Erik Jendresen will pen the screenplay – which is based on William Saroyan’s 1943 novel ‘The Human Comedy.’

Jack Quaid, Sam Shepard and Melanie Griffith with also star in the drama with Hanks and Gary Goetzman acting as executive producers.

Hanks and Ryan have previously starred together in three movies – ‘Joe and the Volcano’ and the romantic comedies ‘Sleepless in Seattle’ and ‘You’ve Got Mail’.

Meanwhile, Hanks, 57, has just finished shooting the 2015 drama ‘A Hologram for the King’ and is also set to star in Steven Spielberg’s upcoming untitled cold war thriller.
