The Great British Bake Off reveals 12 new contestants

A bronze resin sculptor, an accountant and a music teacher are among the 12 new ‘The Great British Bake Off’ contestants.

The baking competition – which is co-hosted by Noel Fielding and newcomer Matt Lucas, and judged by Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith – will return to the small screen on September 22 with 12 new stars aiming to be crowned champion.

The youngest of the baker’s dozen is 20-year-old accounting and finance student, Peter, from Edinburgh who started baking when he was just 12 years old.

He said: "Just being in the tent with the judges, presenters and other bakers and realising that I was on the ‘Bake Off’.

"I was just so excited to get baking in the tent and fulfil this amazing dream."

Joining Peter is project manager Mark, pharmacy dispenser Sura, music teacher Rowan, bronze resin sculptor Marc, accountant Makbul, pantomime producer Lottie, diagnostic radiographer Loriea, digital manager Laura, accountant Hermine, and armoured guard Dave.

Also joining the lineup is 61-year-old retirement living team leader, Linda, who is the eldest contestant.

She first started baking at a young age after visiting her aunt’s dairy farm in the countryside, and vows to only use homegrown produce in her cooking.

Linda said: "I’ll never lose that magical feeling I had when I first walked into the tent and that will stay with me as one of my moments."

Filming for the 11th series kicked off in July after production was halted in April due to the coronavirus pandemic.

To prevent the spread of the virus, Channel 4 moved the famous ‘Bake Off’ tent from its home in Berkshire to Essex.

The team has a new set of health and safety rules, but judge Paul still intends to give out his signature handshakes to bakers who meet his high expectations.
