The Beach Boys to release scrapped album Adult/Child for first time as part of gigantic boxset

The Beach Boys’ long‑shelved Adult/Child sessions are finally being released within the new boxset We Gotta Groove: The Brother Studio Years.

The collection focuses on the late Brian Wilson’s return to group recording in the mid‑to‑late ’70s. It features a newly remastered edition of The Beach Boys Love You, along with material from the 15 Big Ones sessions, Love You, and the Wilson‑produced Adult/Child recordings that never received a full release.

The set also includes studio outtakes, demos and alternate mixes from the era.

The band announced on Instagram: “Introducing ‘We Gotta Groove,’ our latest box set. The collection is based around Brian Wilson’s return to the group projects, and includes a newly remastered version of ‘The Beach Boys Love You,’ as well as key tracks from the ‘15 Big Ones’ sessions, ‘Love You,’ and the unreleased Brian Wilson-produced ‘Adult/Child’ sessions. The package also spotlights studio outtakes, demos, and alternate mixes. Our newsletter subscribers sold out the pre-order with their VIP entry on our official store, so don’t miss out on this limited re-stock!”

We Gotta Groove was co‑produced by mixing engineer James Sáez and Beach Boys historian Howie Edelson, with longtime archivist Alan Boyd serving as artistic director. Edelson also wrote the liner notes, incorporating archival interview quotes from members of the band.

The boxset contains three CDs and three LPs, offering 35 previously unreleased tracks and 22 newly mixed recordings. It marks one of the most extensive archival releases from the group’s Brother Records period.

To preview the project, The Beach Boys have shared a previously unheard outtake from The Beach Boys Love You titled We Gotta Groove (2025 Mix). The track was written and produced by Wilson.

We Gotta Groove: The Brother Studio Years will be released on February 13.
