Ted Danson admits The Cosby Show helped Cheers’ success

Ted Danson thinks ‘The Cosby Show’ was partially responsible for the success of ‘Cheers’.
The 70-year-old actor – who played Sam Malone on the iconic NBC sitcom – admitted that ‘Cheers’ owes its success, in part at least, to another of America’s most popular sitcoms, which starred Bill Cosby, who was recently found guilty of sexual assault.
He explained: "The reason why ‘Cheers’ became a top-ten show was because of ‘The Cosby Show’.
"It elevated everything. It was a great show and it’s a horrible thing that he did – not my place to vote on that. But the show had other actors and it was an amazing show. I think it’s okay to say that."
Despite the show being regarded as one of America’s best-ever sitcoms, Ted has no desire for it to be brought back to TV screens.
The veteran star – who is married to actress Mary Steenburgen – told ‘Late Night with Seth Meyers’ that he would strongly oppose the idea.
Asked why, Ted explained: "It’d be … people in their 70s in a bar going, ‘What? What? A horse walked into a what?’"
Ted is currently starring in the NBC series ‘The Good Place’, which also features Jameela Jamil.
The British actress has been outspoken about various issues since she swapped London for Hollywood, but Jameela recently insisted she won’t stop speaking out against inequality, even if she risks her own success.
She said: "The funniest thing is when people are like, ‘You’re just saying all this stuff to further your career.’
"Are you in insane? I’m biting all the hands that could possibly feed me. But I won’t go away.
"I’m sure that this has cost me. I would earn much more if I didn’t keep slagging off industries that pay a lot of money. But I can’t live with hypocrisy."
