Stone Roses legend Mani’s cause of death revealed

Gary ‘Mani’ Mounfield died peacefully in his sleep of “respiratory issues” following a long-standing battle with the lung condition emphysema.

The Stone Roses and Primal Scream legend died on November 20, at the age of 63, and his cause of death has been revealed days before he’s set to be laid to rest in Manchester on December 22.

His cause of death was first reported by the Manchester Evening News.

His brother, Greg Mounfield, recently confirmed the details of his sibling’s funeral.

Mani will have a service at Manchester Cathedral at 11am, followed by a private committal.

Greg shared to Facebook: “ON MONDAY DECEMBER 22ND A SERVICE FOR MANI WILL BE HELD IN MANCHESTER CATHEDRAL VICTORIA STREET, MANCHESTER M3 1SX AT 11:30 AM. FOLLOWED BY A PRIVATE COMMIITTAL SERVICE. ALL ENQUIRES TO ANGELA GAMBLE FUNERAL SERVICE TELEPHONE 0161 6813919. (sic)”

Confirming the sad news of his passing, Greg wrote: “IT IS WITH THE HEAVIEST OF HEARTS THAT I HAVE TO ANNOUNCE THE SAD PASSING OF MY BROTHER GARY MANI MOUNFIELD. RIP RKID.(sic)”

Mani reportedly passed away at his home in Stockport after collapsing. An ambulance was called, but he couldn’t be revived.

His death came less than a week after he announced an intimate in-conversation tour of the UK.

The musician shot to fame with The Stone Roses, but they went their separate ways in 1996, and he went on to join Primal Scream.

But in 2011, he announced he had left the band to reunite with The Stone Roses for a huge stadium tour.
