Slipknot’s new album to be ‘most ambitious yet’

Slipknot’s new album will be their "most ambitious, experimental" record to date.
Frontman Corey Taylor claims the group have written their "heaviest song" for the hotly-anticipated record – a follow up to their fifth studio album, 2014’s ‘.5: The Gray Chapter’ – and says their new material is "crazy".
He said: "At a time when most bands are slowing down, I think we’ve written our heaviest song – one of them anyway – on this new album.
"It’s going to be f***ing crazy. People are going to s**t their pants when they hear it.
"It’s also us at our most ambitious, our most experimental, also us doing what we f***ing do best which is basically when everybody thinks they’ve got us figured out, we just smack them in the face with everything we’ve got."
Corey says the band have taken inspiration from their second studio album, ‘Iowa’, which was released in 2001, for the new LP, admitting the new material will be a more "mature" version of that album, featuring some "really cool melancholic melodies" alongside fast riffs.
He added to Metal Hammer magazine: "The way we’ve been describing it is, ‘What if the guys who made ‘Iowa’ matured? What if the kids who made ‘Iowa’ grew up?’
"That’s kind of the way we’re looking at it because some of this s**t is so heavy – but there’s melody, there’s really cool melancholic melody going on.
"Some of this s**t is just so hard and dirty fast. It’s f***ing really good."
Corey revealed in April that the heavy metal outfit – who entered a temporary hiatus in 2016 – were working on new material.
He said at the time: "The guys are writing tons of music and I’ve written lyrics to almost all of it.
"We’re going to start trying to put together demos here and there with the time off that I have and really try to get ahead of the curve as far as what happens next."
