Sir Rod Stewart postpones show to undergo ‘minor medical procedure’

Sir Rod Stewart has postponed a show in Ohio so he can undergo a “minor medical procedure”.

The 81-year-old singer had been due to perform in Cincinnati on August 9, but he called off the concert just hours before he was due to take to the stage with a statement confirming Stewart was suffering a health issue which “required prompt attention”.

A message posted on the singer’s Instagram page explained: “Due to an unforeseen but minor medical procedure that required prompt attention, Rod Stewart’s performance tonight in Cincinnati has been postponed.

“Rescheduling is currently underway, with additional information to follow on Tuesday. All previously purchased tickets will be honored for the rescheduled date.

“Rod is expected to make a quick recovery and looks forward to returning to Cincinnati.”

Stewart is due back on stage at the Rocket Arena in Cleveland, Ohio on Tuesday night (11.08.26).

It comes after the singer faced a backlash after he was spotted attending a soccer game during the 2026 FIFA World Cup just a day after cancelling a concert in California due to ill health.

The Maggie May hitmaker pulled out of a show in California on June 12 – just hours before it was due to start – after contracting laryngitis, but the following day, he posted a video of himself and sons Liam, 31, and Alistair, 20, flying to Boston in a private jet to watch his beloved Scotland take on Haiti.

The singer later addressed the criticism and insisted he didn’t want to let his kids down after years of promising they would go to the tournament if Scotland qualified.

Speaking to Jim White on talkSport, he said: “No, I got an awful … I really shouldn’t have gone to the Haiti game. You know, I had to cancel a show the night before because I just had no voice left.

“But the truth is, Jim, I wasn’t going to let my two sons down. I promised them since they were born that we were going to go to a World Cup.

“And this is the first one that’s come about. And it wasn’t a good look, I admit, but I’m going to have to just take the stick. So I did it for the boys.”
