Sir Mick Jagger: Fans need me to stay young

Sir Mick Jagger feels under pressure to be youthful because of fans’ expectations.
The Rolling Stones frontman is now 74 and still touring with the band – currently comprised of Jagger, Keith Richards, 74, Charlie Watts, 76, and Ronnie Wood, 70 – but he thinks fans expectations for him to be still be at the peak of physical fitness is "selfish".
Jagger told the Irish Independent newspaper: "People have this obsession. They want you to be like you were in 1969. They want you to, because otherwise their youth goes with you, you know. It’s very selfish, but it’s understandable."
The ‘Satisfaction’ singer – who is known to stick to a strict diet and exercise regime – has a long-running feud with bandmate Keith Richards and admitted that working with him at the height of his addiction to heroin was not easy.
Speaking about recording their tenth album ‘Exile On Main Street’ which was released in 1972, he added: "Yeah. It is not easy to do things in that kind of environment. But I mean, that was a long time ago, a different lifestyle.
"It is not easy because not everybody wants to do the same things at the same time, and it is very difficult if you have got people with various addictions; and everyone has their problems. Deal with it! But still! We got it made in the end! And people still liked it! The proof of the pudding!"
Jagger also opened up about his night behind bars in Brixton Prison in 1967 after police raided Richards’ home and arrested the two rockers along with girlfriend Marianne Faithfull, who was unclothed and wrapped in a fur rug.
Jagger said: "Well, I did go to jail, for a brief period. It wasn’t very pleasant. Yeah, we could have been in jail. Keith got nine months and I got three months. You know, over nothing, really. And really a put-up job by the press as well, on top of it. It was kind of nasty."
