Sir Bruce Forsyth’s final Strictly Come Dancing felt ‘very weird’

Sir Bruce Forsyth says his final appearance on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ felt "very weird".

The legendary entertainer – who has hosted the BBC One celebrity dance contest alongside Tess Daly for ten years – handed over the reigns to Tess and Claudia Winkleman in the launch show of this years’ series and he’s now revealed how it felt to say goodbye.

He told HELLO! magazine: "It felt very weird.

"I have very mixed emotions about it. Part of me has to be sad because, when you work on something in television for ten years, you become a family and when you say goodbye to that family there is always a tear in the eye.

"I’m so lucky, let’s face it, to be 86 and still be on the top show on television – so it’s hard to say goodbye, of course it is. But I’m leaving because, although I could hang on, I felt it was right not only for me but for the show."

The much-loved comedian – who is married to former Miss World Wilnelia Merced – insists he wanted to leave before the show exhausted him to the point that he no longer enjoyed it.

He added: "Now, I have the relief that I don’t have to do it anymore. I would have hated to have carried on and then had to stop because I wasn’t feeling well enough. It’s a live show, which I prefer to recorded, but it’s stressful and it’s long."
