Simon Gregson proposed to his wife while he was in the bath.
The ‘Coronation Street’ star – who has played Steve McDonald on the ITV soap for 25 years – confessed he popped the question to his girlfriend Emma Gleave, 29, while he was in the bathroom just six weeks into their relationship.
He told The Daily Mirror newspaper: "I was sat in the bath and she was in the bedroom and I asked her. I just knew I wanted to be with her.
"She was so beautiful and we laughed all the time. She brought a lot more laughter into my life and proper friendship, someone you could rely on.
"We went and got a ring before we went to work."
The happy couple – who have two sons, Alfie, seven, and Harry, five, together – were introduced by his on-screen mother Beverley Callard (Liz McDonald), who encouraged Emma to come and meet Simon at a party in 2005.
The 40-year-old actor admitted the timing was perfect for him to start dating Emma as he was looking to settle down after reforming his party-boy lifestyle.
He explained: "Settling down was something I wanted to do. I just wanted something normal.
"But if I’d met Emma earlier on I don’t think we would have got on. I was a different kind of person."
He added: "Being in love and being loved is a beautiful thing.
"And having two bright-eyed boys, who jump in your arms every time you walk through the door is brilliant. Things are nice, we have a nice home, a great family, we are very lucky."
