Gemma Arterton to star in Made in Dagenham musical

Gemma Arterton will star in new musical 'Made in Dagenham'.
The Hollywood actress has been cast in the lead role of Rita O'Grady in a brand new stage adaptation of the hit film, coming to the Adelphi Theatre in London's West End on Wednesday 5 November, with previews from Thursday 9 October.
The story, set in Essex, dramatises the Ford sewing machinists strike of 1968 that aimed for equal pay for women.
It focuses on working mother Rita and her fight for justice when Ford's Dagenham car plant announces all female employees will have their pay grade dropped to 'unskilled'.
Gemma enthused: "I'm beyond thrilled to be playing Rita O'Grady in 'Made in Dagenham'. It's an important story that I'm passionate about telling, and we intend to tell it with wit, warmth and, of course, a lot of singing and dancing in this production! Roll on October!"
The Almeida Theatre's artistic director Rupert Goold is directing, with music from Grammy award-winning composer David Arnold and lyrics from Olivier Award winner Richard Thomas.
Gemma will take to the stage opposite Adrian der Gregorian as her husband Eddie.
Rupert said: "From my first watch of 'Made in Dagenham' I knew it was a piece I wanted to be involved in bringing to the stage. It's such an engaging, relatable and vital story and I'm convinced as a musical we can bring even more to it when we mount our production at the Adelphi.
"We've got some big ideas, some brilliant original music and I can't wait to get going with our cast. It's particularly exciting too, that the cast will be led by the luminously talented Gemma Arterton and the unspeakably charismatic Adrian Der Gregorian, who I'm delighted are playing the leads at the centre of this big-hitting, big-hearted musical."

Stars celebrate at Oscars after parties

The stars were out in force at the 86th annual Academy Awards after parties.
Hollywood heavyweights including Reese Witherspoon, Diane Kruger and Bruce Willis were among 160 guests who attended the prestigious Vanity Fair afterparty on Sunday night (02.03.13) in West Hollywood, following the glittering awards ceremony at the Dolby Digital Theatre.
Paula Patton put on a brave front as she made her first solo appearance on the red carpet since announcing her separation from Robin Thicke, her husband of eight years, while all eyes were on Adam Levine and his gorgeous fiancé Behati Prinsloo as they rocked up arm-in-arm.
Meanwhile, Orlando Bloom surprised his estranged wife Miranda Kerr - with whom he has three-year-old son Flynn - on the red carpet while she was giving a TV interview.
In a touching display of affection, the actor planted a kiss on her cheek and quipped, "Hi. You look amazing", as a flustered Miranda tried to regain her composure for the cameras.
The other venue of choice was Sir Elton John's AIDS Foundation Oscar-viewing party at West Hollywood Park, with celebrities including Britney Spears and Heidi Klum getting dolled up for the star-studded event.
Lady Gaga stole the show in a sparkling silver dress as she posed for a series of snaps with her fashion icon Donatella Versace, her close friend Elton and his husband David Furnish.
The likes of Kim, Kourtney and Khloe Kardashian tucked into delicacies by chef Gordon Ramsay, Patron tequila cocktails as they enjoyed performances from Ed Sheeran and DJ Johnny Dynell at the sit-down charity dinner.

John Travolta economises with dancing

John Travolta "economises" with his dancing.
The 60-year-old actor - who has children Ella, 13, and Benjamin, three, with wife Kelly Preston - is known for his fancy footwork thanks to his roles in films like 'Staying Alive' and 'Saturday Night Fever' and admits he tones down his moves in public so he doesn't feel pressure on the dancefloor.
Speaking at Vanity Fair's Oscars party at Sunset Towers, last night (02.03.14), he said: "Now we'll dance, probably not here, but at the Madonna party, here is for schmoozing.
"I economise with my [dance] moves so I don't have too much pressure on me."
The 'Pulp Fiction' star and his spouse had earlier enjoyed the ceremony, which was hosted by Ellen DeGeneres at the Dolby Theatre, and singled out U2's performance of 'Ordinary Love', and wins for Best Supporting Actor and Actress Jared Leto and Lupita Nyong'o as highlights.
Speaking on UK TV show 'Lorraine', John said: "It was a wonderful night and very entertaining, I loved the Lupita moment, I loved the Leto moment, I loved the Bono moment, that was great.
"I thought the Oscars were split beautifully, it was a very fair night."
Kelly added: "Ellen was brilliant too, she was so funny."

Cate Blanchett felt Oscars pressure

Cate Blanchett felt under "intense pressure" to win an Oscar.
The Australian actress - who already picked up Best Actress at the BAFTAs, Screen Actors Guild and Golden Globe Awards for her role in 'Blue Jasmine' - is relieved awards season is over as being favourite for the prizes was so uncomfortable.
Asked about the pressure of being frontrunner to take home the statue, she said: "It's an intense, unbearable pressure, which I'm so glad is over."
And Cate - who previously picked up Best Supporting Actress for her performance in 'The Aviator' in 2005 - admitted she has been "gobsmacked" by the performances of her fellow actresses, both this year and in recent times when she has been working in theatre away from Hollywood.
Speaking backstage at last night's (02.03.14) ceremony, she told reporters: "Every year, I watch this thing remotely and there are five, six, ten, twenty performances by women that I am godsmacked by."
The 44-year-old beauty joked she had selected her ivory Armani gown after comparing it with others she was offered and asking "which one's the heaviest?"
She added: "I had the great good fortunate of being princess this morning and have three dresses to choose from, and I chose this one."
And Cate had begun her preparations for the big day with an intense massage.
She said: "My morning began with being pummeled like Kobe beef. And it's just gotten better and better."
During her acceptance speech, the actress made a cryptic shout out to Julia Roberts, saying "Julia, hashtag suck it," and remained coy afterwards as to what she had meant.
She said only: "It happened in the bar with Ms. Roberts. And that's all I'm prepared to say."

Kelly Osbourne and Lady Gaga make up

Kelly Osbourne and Lady Gaga have officially ended their feud.
The 'Fashion Police' host and her mother Sharon had been engaged in a war of words for over a year, and though they agreed to call a truce late last year, they finally came face-to-face for the first time last night (02.03.14) at Sir Elton John's Annual AIDS Foundation Academy Awards Viewing Party in Hollywood.
As the host looked on, Kelly, 29, and Gaga, 27, shared a joke before posing for a joke picture which saw the presenter put her hands around the 'Applause' singer's throat.
Posting the photo onto Instagram, Kelly added the caption: "Peace at last."
In October, Gaga tried to make peace with her rival by sending a birthday cake via her mother Sharon after performing on 'The X Factor' in the UK.
However, Kelly rejected the gift, dismissing it as a publicity stunt, but later apologised for her ungrateful response.
She tweeted: ''@ladygaga I acted like a child last night. Just not into publicity stunts call me & we will end this like adults I don't want 2 fight anymore.''
She also said': ''I will just admit that I overreacted. I really did, because when you start to f**k with me and my mom, that's when I start to get a little bit... I saw it wrong. I saw it more as a publicity stunt than an olive branch. There's a lot of really huge misunderstandings on both sides of this ridiculous fight that doesn't even need to be happening.''
The Osbournes had been involved in a bitter feud with Gaga for months, with Sharon previously branding the eccentric singer - whose Born This Way Foundation campaigns against bullying - a ''publicity-seeking hypocrite'' for letting her fans send threatening messages to her Kelly after she blasted Gaga's 2012 Grammy Awards outfit.

Ellen DeGeneres ordered Oscars pizza

Ellen DeGeneres ordered pizzas for the Oscars audience.
The talk show host - who presided over the four-hour academy awards ceremony last night (02.03.14) - wanted to ensure the guests didn't go hungry, so had the tasty treats delivered from Big Mama's & Papa's Pizzeria, and admitted she had "lied" to the man who brought the order as he thought he would just be leaving them backstage.
Instead, celebrities including Meryl Streep, Jennifer Lawrence, Chiwetel Ejiofor - who requested an entire box - Harrison Ford, Kerry Washington and Julia Roberts happily tucked into the pies, while Brad Pitt and Kevin Spacey acted as the man's assistants, with the former passing out plates and napkins and the latter helping distribute the food.
'Wolf of Wall Street' star Leonardo DiCaprio declined to eat, and though Jared Leto - who picked up Best Supporting Actor - took a slice, he claimed it was for his mother, who was his date for the evening.
Ellen asked Sandra Bullock to pay a tip, but the 'Gravity' actress insisted she had no money, so the host called on movie mogul Harvey Weinstein instead.
She said: "Where's Harvey Weinstein? Harvey, no pressure - only a billion people are watching. Whatever you think is right."
The celebrities donated cash for a tip into Pharrell Williams' infamous hat, which was later passed around, and it is believed the lucky delivery man was given around $300 for his high-profile job at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.

Oscars selfie ‘breaks’ twitter

The star-studded Oscars audience "broke twitter" last night (02.03.14).
A 'selfie' picture organised by Academy Awards host Ellen DeGeneres, who handed her phone to Bradley Cooper to take the photo, became the most retweeted post ever on the social networking website, amassing over 1.1 million reposts in just half an hour.
As well as Ellen and Bradley, Jennifer Lawrence, Jared Leto, Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Kevin Spacey, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie and Lupita Nyong'o and her brother Peter all crammed into the photograph, much to the excitement of fans.
However, the website was then hit by technical difficulties which prevented further retweets, and Ellen told the audience at Hollywood's Dolby Theatre: "So this is true. We just crashed Twitter. We got an email from Twitter, and we crashed and broke Twitter. We have made history. See, Meryl, what we did? You and I? It's amazing, we really just made history. It's fantastic.
"It's back up again and it has the most retweets ever--and we're all winners tonight, that's what it means, that's what I was trying to say early on."
However, Ellen poked fun at 'American Hustle' star Bradley insisting they could have crammed even more stars into the photo if his body was different.
Posting the photo, she wrote: "If only Bradley's arm was longer. Best photo ever. #Oscar."
The 56-year-old star was a hit as Oscars host, goading the audience with gentle humour.
Early in the evening, she said: "I think you should think of yourselves as winners. Not all of you, but the people who've won before - you should think of yourselves as winners."
She later added: "Between all the nominees here tonight, you've done over 1400 films, 1400 films, and you've gone to a total of six years of college."

Jared Leto takes mum to Oscar Awards

Jared Leto took his mother to the Oscar Awards last night (02.03.14).
The 'Dallas Buyers Club' - who has been romantically linked to Taylor Swift and Lupita Nyong'o recently - decided to take his mum Connie to the awards ceremony, held in Los Angeles, instead of a lover.
The 42-year-old actor uploaded a screenshot onto Instagram of him and his brother, Shannon, video messaging their mother.
He accompanied the cute snap with the caption: "My mothers face when @shannonleto and I told her she was coming to the #Oscars with us! (sic)".
This isn't the first time the 30 Seconds to Mars frontman has taken his mum to an awards show as he took her to the Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG) in January and also dedicated his prize to her.
Jared - who was honoured as the Best Supporting Actor for his role as Rayon in the biopic - said at the SAG awards: "Last but not least, [thank you] to my mother, the hottest date in town. I just want to say, thank you for giving me such a shining and wonderful example of the possibilities of life. For showing me the power of dreams and being the best mother in the entire world. I love you."

Beyonce and Jay Z drink chicken bone cocktails

Beyonce and Jay Z enjoyed cocktails made from chicken bones on Friday (28.02.14).
The superstar couple wound down after performing together at Beyonce's sold-out concert at London's The O2 arena by visiting quirky pub White Lyan - known for not serving branded products - in trendy Hoxton, east London, where they sipped on unusual concoctions such as the Bone Martini.
A source told the Daily Star newspaper: "They weren't shy about trying something different. The oddest thing they drank was a cocktail made with chicken bones called the Bone Martini. We thought Beyonce would be more reserved when it comes to that kind of thing but she was loving it."
The 32-year-old star was clearly in the party mood after completing the first of six nights at The O2 and let her hair down with her entourage as well as Jay, 44, who had joined her on stage earlier in the night to perform their latest collaboration 'Drunk in Love'.
A source added to the Daily Mirror newspaper: "Beyonce had a go at making some cocktails and danced the night away with hubby Jay and one of her stylists and some others."
After a night of drinking, the couple - who have a two-year-old daughter, Blue Ivy - opted for a quick snack as they visited one of Brick Lane's famous bagel shops.
Beyonce's late night bagel binge comes a week after she treated her entourage to £700 worth of McDonald's fast food following her concert in Manchester.
