Witnesses in Oscar Pistorius' trial have claimed they heard "petrifying" screams on the night of Reeva Steenkamp's death.
The double-amputee Paralympian's murder trial continued today (04.03.14) in South Africa as his defense attorney tried to discredit witness Michelle Burger's emotional testimony, after the neighbour said she awoke to hear four gun shots and pleas for help.
Pistorius is accused of shooting his girlfriend Reeva through the bathroom door at his Pretoria home on the night of February 14, but the London 2012 gold medallist insists he mistook her for an intruder.
According to CNN, defense attorney Barry Roux attacked her credibility, pointing out the exact similarities between her and her husband's statement.
Breaking down into tears, Michelle said: "It was awful to hear her screams", insisting their statements were similar because they had heard the same thing.
Her husband, Carl Peter Johnson, was then called to the stand and backed up her comments.
He recalled: "When I heard the lady scream again I jumped out of bed and ran to the balcony which is on the first floor ... I could hear she was in trouble, it was clearly distress calls."
Another visibly-nervous witness, neighbour Estelle Van Der Merwe, recalled hearing "loud voices" and a sound like "bang, bang".
June Steenkamp, the model and reality star's mother, was in the courtroom for Monday's (03.03.14) testimony, which was the first time she had seen the athlete in person.
It is expected to take at least three weeks for Judge Thokozile Matilda Masipa to hear the case. Pistorius could face life imprisonment if he is found guilty of killing Reeva in cold blood.

Bobby Brown didn't know his daughter Bobbi Kristina got married.
The singer's daughter - who he had with the late Whitney Houston - secretly married her fiancé Nick Gordon last month despite controversy over their unconventional relationship, since Nick was raised as her brother when the late superstar took him into her home 12 years ago.
However, her dad has denied knowledge of the nuptials between the two.
Bobby was quizzed on the wedding and told gossip website TMZ: "No, she didn't get married."
He added: "If she says she is. I don't know about it."
Bobbi and Nick hope to prove the sceptics wrong and plan to celebrate their commitment to one another for a second time with a big wedding later this year.
Bobbi previously said: "The criticism of our relationship only made us stronger. It lit a fire under our ass. We are officially married now but our wedding was just very low-key. But I can say that we're planning a big wedding later this year.
"It's going to be very royal, classic and beautiful - just a phenomenal ceremony. We're going for the full fairytale."

Cameron Diaz is a "science nerd".
The 41-year-old actress has recently been working on 'The Body Book' and says she was inspired to write the tome because of her fascination with how things work.
She said: "I'm a science nerd. I like to know why things work the way they do. I thought that the body was probably the most important thing to understand how it works since we all have one, and we don't really know that much about it."
The 'Bad Teacher' star also urged women to take better care of their private parts and treat their genitals like "beautiful flowers".
Speaking on 'Chelsea Lately', she said: "We think the vagina is on the outside. I say grab a mirror and play along. Get in there.
"Learn about it. You're supposed to treat it like the beautiful flower that is, the delicate flower that it is. And you're supposed to nurture it in all the ways that it needs nurturing. Watering it. Fertilising it. It needs nourishment. It's hungry."
And Cameron also called women not to permanently remove their pubic hair.
Explaining why she included an excerpt about pubic hair preservation, she said: "Because it's a science book, and since we used to be covered in hair, and now we're not except for a few places, I figure there's a purpose for that hair.
"So I put some of the purposes for it and I also suggest that no mater how you enjoy grooming it throughout your life - whether it's shave it all off, wax it all off, putt a bulls eye, birthday cake, I don't care - just, girls, think about not taking it all off forever. Permanency means forever. It doesn't come back. You might change your mind in a few years."

Jessica Alba buys her furniture from second-hand websites.
The 32-year-old actress - who has daughters Honor, five, and two-year-old Haven with husband Cash Warren - admits she has a "problem" and can't stop splashing out on items advertised on Craislist.
She said: "I bought my hot pink desk off Craigslist. I have a problem. I love vintage furniture, and refurbishing is one of the most eco things you can do. I also got a couple of cool chairs and Danish mid-century credenzas off of Craigslist."
And the sales site isn't the only reason Jessica goes online, as she is also "addicted" to photo-sharing website Instagram.
She told the new issue of Redbook magazine: "All [Cash] watches is sports. Fantasy football is so annoying--there's always a game on. Though he says I'm addicted to Instagram, so it goes both ways!"
Away from the spotlight, the 'Sin City: A Dame to Kill For' is closer to her friends from her baby group than anyone, though her presence can sometimes make hanging out difficult.
She explained: "They're some of my closest girlfriends. It's weird when we're doing normal mom things and there's paparazzi around. That's the only thing that makes everyone uncomfortable."

Matthew McConaughey told his wife he wanted to make another baby after the Oscars on Sunday (02.03.14).
The 44-year-old actor picked up the Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in 'Dallas Buyers Club', but instead of planning a night of fun at the afterparty, he told his wife Camila Alves - with who he has five-year-old Levi, four-year-old Vida and 14-month-old Livingston - he wanted to enjoy some intimate celebrations.
He was reportedly overheard telling her: "We won't stay at the afterparty long - I want to go home and make another baby!"
A source added to The Sun newspaper: "Matthew wasn't worried about getting drunk, he was more keen to get home with his beautiful wife, which he made quite clear in her ear.
"It was so lovely to see, though. It's clear how in love they are. They kissed and kissed and kissed."
The 'Lincoln Lawyer' star thanked his mother, Kathleen McCabe, and his late father during his acceptance speech at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood.
He said: "To you Dad, you taught me how to be a man ... To my mother, who's here tonight, who taught me and my two older brothers - demanded - that we respect ourselves."
The heartthrob then fought back tears as he thanked Camila and his children for their support, saying: "You are the four people in my life that I want to make the most proud of me. Thank you."

Robin Thicke is trying to spread "love and joy".
The 'Blurred Lines' hitmaker - who recently split from Paula Patton after eight years of marriage - is doing his best to stay positive in the wake of the separation and has promised to continue to treat his estranged spouse "right".
Speaking at his concert at Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City on Sunday (02.03.14), Robin - who has three-year-old son Julian with Paula - told the audience: "Never stop believing and you never stop loving. And even if it is over, make sure you treat each other right. Treat your family right. Take care of your mom, take care of your kids and good things will come to you. Just keep believing that God is good.
"That's what gets me by. Sometimes when I get a little scared or worried about the future, I just try to stay positive and do my part to spread love and spread joy."
His speech came ahead of his rendition of Al Green's 'Let's Stay Together' and may have been triggered by an earlier outburst from a fan.
The audience member shouted: "I love Paula."
Robin, who was still wearing his wedding ring, quickly shouted back: "I do too."
Although Robin and Paula issued a statement saying they had "mutually" decided to separate, it has been widely reported that the singer was against the decision and tried his best to persuade the actress to change her mind.
