James Franco has hinted he had a bitter rivalry with the late Heath Ledger.
The 'Of Mice and Men' star has published a bizarre ode to the Australian actor, who died of an accidental overdose in New York City in 2008, in his debut poetry collection, 'Directing Herbert White.'
In the piece, titled 'Ledger,' he says: "There had been a time when we were up for the same roles, '10 Things I Hate about You' (Based on 'The Taming of the Shrew'), And 'The Patriot' - Funny, you were Australian and so was Mel - You were the knight in 'A Knight's Tale'..."
The poem is one of several that allude to the 'The Dark Knight' star in the new collection, which also includes a piece written about Lindsay Lohan.
The 36-year-old actor, who also recently penned a fictional short story whose central character seems to be troubled Hollywood starlet, is clearly very inspired by the 'Mean Girls' actress despite branding her "delusional."
The '127 Hours' actor was furious after his named appeared on actress' leaked list of celebrity sexual conquests and insisted they never slept together.
He previously said: "I will swear on anything that you ask that I have never had sex with Lindsay Lohan! Here's the problem: I bet you if we brought her in here and you asked her to her face 'Did you have sexy with James?' she'd say yes.
"I can't believe she put me on that private list. She's so delusional!"

Nicole Scherzinger admits she is "recklessly ambitious".
The 36-year-old star, who has been in an on-again, off-again relationship with British Formula One driver Louis Hamilton for six years, wasn't able to enjoy her success when she was a member of The Pussycat Dolls, but says she is much happier these days.
The 'Your Love' hitmaker told the UK's The Guardian newspaper: "My 20s were fruitful but not enjoyable. Being in The Pussycat Dolls was probably my loneliest time because I was quite insatiable. Nothing was ever good enough and I didn't know how to take a break. My 30s have definitely been more chillaxed."
But she added: "I'm recklessly ambitious. In America, ambition is a good thing - it's hunger, it's drive. I hate it when people use the word negatively."
The former 'X Factor' judge also admits she has always been very emotional.
She said: "My nickname at school was Crybaby. Sometimes I can cry just talking because something means so much. And when I'm really hurting I just sob - a bit like someone is dying. I'm emotionally intense."
Despite still being excited about her career, the brunette beauty is already dreaming of her retirement.
She said: "I live by the 'Aloha spirit'. My soul is in Hawaii, where I was born. It's basically having heart and compassion for others. I can imagine retiring there, wearing a muumuu [a loose Hawaiian dress] and spending my days on a paddleboard."

Jessica Simpson's pre-wedding celebration was a "family-friendly affair."
The 33-year-old star, who is set to marry fiancé Eric Johnson at the San Ysidro Ranch near Santa Barbara, California today (05.07.14), held a special Independence Day barbecue to mark the US holiday on Friday (04.07.14), as she was worried her guests would be upset to miss the occasion.
The couple's wedding planner, Mindy Weiss told PEOPLE.com the festivities had "a carnival feel," adding: "Jessica didn't want her guests to miss out on the 4th of July. That's who they are. Their No. 1 concern is for their guests coming all this way for the wedding."
The stars-and-stripes themed event, which came one day after an intimate rehearsal dinner took place at the same hotel, was a family-friendly affair with games to entertain children, and guests dined on a Southern-inspired buffet, including lobster dogs, corn fritters. Smoked barbecue baby back ribs, fried chicken, mac and cheese and potato salad, before tucking into a pie bar with slices of key lime, peach and coconut cream pie, while being entertained by a jazz blues band.
Before the party, the 'With You' hitmaker, who has daughter Maxwell, two, and son Ace, 12 months, with Eric, slipped into a swimsuit and spent a few hours soaking up the sun by the pool with her younger sister and bridesmaid Ashlee Simpson, 29.
The former 'Newlyweds' star, who was previously married to Nick Lachey, is expected to walk down the aisle in a pale pink Marchesa gown in a "rustic chic" ceremony at 4pm local time.
The blonde beauty got engaged to former NFL star and Yale graduate Eric, 34, in November 2010 after seven months of dating, but they previously postponed their wedding twice due to Jessica's pregnancies.

Michelle Heaton says she may need a hysterectomy as a preventative measure against cancer
The Liberty X star has revealed the news to fans that she faces the decision of either going through the full procedure, or having her ovaries removed as originally thought.
Writing in her weekly column for OK! magazine, she said: "We had my appointment with Dr. Sheridan - the surgeon I used for my C-section with AJ - about my dreaded ovarian removal.
"He knows I like to have it straight and get on with it, but within minutes we were talking about the possibility of having a full hysterectomy instead of just having my ovaries removed."
Michelle - who was diagnosed with a mutated BRCA2 gene, and decided to have a double mastectomy to alleviate her high risk of cancer in 2012 - and her husband Hugh Hanley face the difficult decision together.
She continued: "It's such a long story and there are so many pros and cons for both options.
"I suppose the short of it is that I wish I wasn't faced with the decision of having to go through such a life-changing operation.
"Whichever procedure I do decide to go through with, it'll effect my life forever in the name of 'prevention', not 'treatment' and it's a very personal choice, and a tough one at that."

Martin Freeman has claimed it's best for stars to not outstay their welcome.
The actor - known for his roles in the likes of 'The Hobbit' trilogy - suggested iconic rockers The Beatles wouldn't be a fondly remembered if they'd lasted longer than their seven-year run as a band.
Discussing whether he thinks UK TV series 'Sherlock' might benefited from a shorter run, he said: "I do! Based on my own previous [experience], really - there were only two seasons and a Christmas special of 'The Office' and people still eulogise that, people still talk about that - luckily for us.
"I always kind of think if The Beatles were still around now, people would've lost interest quite a long time ago. Seven years of recording - it's there forever. I think not outstaying your welcome is a vital ingredient."
Martin also discussed being recognised in public, and admitted his role as Dr. Watson in the BBC drama seemed more popular than Bilbo Baggins in 'The Hobbit'.
Speaking to Graham Norton on Radio 1, he said: "On the street, I would say Watson nudges it.
"Bilbo gets a lot. For years, of course, it was Tim [from 'The Office'] and that was my primary street-shouting thing.
"But probably now, it's an amalgamation of all of them but the front-front is Dr. Watson."

Dame Helen Mirren has admitted she cuts her own hair.
The 'RED 2' actress insisted she "can't handle" an almost-monthly trip to the hairdresser, so she has taken to chopping her own locks - even in preparation for glitzy award shows.
She told Redbook magazine: "Not always, but yes, [I cut my own hair]. I can't handle going to the hairdresser every six weeks, so I only go about once a year.
"In between, I get out the scissors and do something, usually rather disastrously. Sometimes I'll even chop my hair the morning of a big red carpet event."
She also admitted she still finds the huge events to be a lot of "fun", particularly now she's at a stage where she can just "enjoy" them.
She added: "Yes, it is fun - it's a silly, amazing moment to be caught up in, and then it's all over.
"What's nice is that I don't feel nervous about it anymore. I can just enjoy it."
And despite not having a strict 'beauty regime', the veteran star still puts on makeup "every day" - although she ends up taking most of it off again.
She explained: "I wear makeup every day. I love putting it on, and I get really into it: a little bit of this here, a little bit of that there... But then I stand back and look in the mirror and it's awful!
"So I take it all off because I've gotten too anal about it. It's absolutely true that as you get older, you have to wear less and less makeup."

Jessica Simpson's parents reportedly can't stop arguing about who will walk her down the aisle.
The 33-year-old star, who is set to marry Eric Johnson in Santa Barbara, California this weekend, is stressed out about the tension between her father Joe Simpson and her mother Tina Simpson, who divorced last year amid rumours he is gay.
A source told America's OK! magazine: "It's supposed to be the happiest day of Jessica's life but all the drama is making it a nightmare."
Tina is allegedly livid with Joe and wants to give her eldest daughter away.
The source said: "Joe was furious. And Jessica is stuck in the middle."
Jessica's sister Ashlee is also allegedly upset that she chose her best friend and former personal assistant Cacee Cobb to be her maid of honour, and initially "refused to be in the wedding at all," before she calmed down and agreed to be a bridesmaid.
Meanwhile, the blonde beauty has lost so much weight recently that her wedding dress is now two sizes too big.
The insider added: "They can alter it. But she has to stop losing weight.
"For her wedding, Jessica isn't happy with slender. She wants skinny.
"The pressure has really taken a toll."
