Brad Pitt insists marriage is more than "just a title".
The 50-year-old actor tied the knot with long-term partner Angelina Jolie last month and says the ceremony meant more than just being known as husband and wife.
Brad - who was previously married to Jennifer Aniston - said: "I wouldn't say [marriage is] just a title. There's more to it than that."
The 'Moneyball' star - who has children Maddox, 13, Pax, 10, Zahara, nine, Shiloh, eight, and six-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox with Angelina - admitted he is "slowing down" his movie career in order to give himself time to do new things and spend time with his family.
He told the new issue of Britain's GQ magazine: "I've been slowing down for a while now. And slowly transitioning to other things. And, truthfully, I do want to spend more time with my kids before they're grown up and gone."
However, despite his apparent contentment with his personal life, Brad remained cryptic when asked if he is happy, branding life a "series of trade-offs".
Asked if he feels happy, he said: "I've always believed happiness is overrated, you know?
'It's those difficult times that inform the next wonderful time, and it's a series of trade-offs, of events, of wins and losses."
The 'Burn After Reading' star - who was raised in Springfield, Missouri - also joked he is a "miserable b*****d" compared with his friend George Clooney.
Following George's recent description of Brad as "unreachable", his pal replied: "Well, you know, George is extremely accessible. He's one of our best representatives. He's funny as s**t. He's a joy to be around. I guess maybe I'm more of a miserable b*****d.
"I'm a bit of a loner you know? I'm more quiet by nature. And coming from, you know, hillbilly country, I'm probably more reserved."

George Clooney's new father-in-law has urged him to have children.
The 53-year-old actor married British lawyer Amal Alamuddin in Venice, Italy, on Saturday (27.09.14) and the 36-year-old beauty's dad Ramzi Alamuddin wasted no time in urging the couple to start a family.
According to a guest at the Aman Canal Grande Hotel, Ramzi used his speech to say: "Now it's time for grandchildren!"
During the speeches, messages were read aloud to the couple from absent friends including Dan Aykroyd and Sandra Bullock.
George and Amal exchanged vows they had written themselves under an arch of imported white roses shortly after 8pm, and were pronounced husband and wife just 18 minutes later.
A source told Us Weekly magazine: "Clooney held Amal's hand when saying part of his vows."
Following the ceremony, the newlyweds and guests including Cindy Crawford, Matt Damon and Emily Blunt tucked into a five-course feast including lobster, risotto, sea bass, and beef and were entertained by a small string orchestra.
After dinner, a jazz trio and pianist performed and were a particular hit with guest Bill Murray.
The source said: "He loved the music and put his thumbs up when it started."
While many guests continued partying until 5am, there was list rest to be had as the celebrations continued yesterday (28.09.14).
The 'Oceans 12' star and his wife hosted a champagne lunch at Cipriani for family and friends, which was described as "super chilled without anyone over doing it."
Later in the day, the couple enjoyed the "main event" of a dinner party on the other side of the Belmond Hotel Cipriani at the Granaries of the Venetian Republic room.
According to E! News, staff had spent the day setting up the area with palm trees, lighting and speakers for Parade, a French cover band.
The couple will complete their weekend of festivities with a small civil ceremony today (29.09.14) that will legalise their union.

Lindsay Lohan wants to land a British film role.
The 28-year-old actress - who is currently starring in the West End play 'Speed-the-Plow - is keen to extend her stay in the UK when the production ends in late November in the hope of being cast in a movie.
She told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "I would love to do a British movie when I'm finished on the stage. I'm really settled here in London, so it would be great.
"Depending on the script, I'm open to all possibilities."
Lindsay was recently forced to defend her stage debut after she fluffed her lines in her opening performance last week.
The 'Mean Girls' star is said to have prompted laughs from her audience at London's Playhouse Theatre as she struggled to grasp writer David Mamet's sharp dialogue, but she insists the performance wasn't a "disaster" and she is doing her best.
She said: "It could've been a disaster - but it wasn't by far.
"I respect people have an opinion, but I'm doing the best I can and will for the duration. I'm doing this because working makes me feel happy and this is a new venture for me."
US-born Lindsay had also previously expressed her concern about the number of lines she had to remember during the second act of the play.
She explained: "You know, when you think about it, I was doing other things before this, and I was travelling, and I come back and I'm looking at this thing and I'm like, 'Oh f***'. The whole of Act Two, I just speak throughout the whole thing.
"It feels really cool. It feels really good. It does. It's... terrifying, at times. Because in the beginning I, like, panicked. I was like, Oh my f***, I can't say all this s***.' "

Kelly Brook has condemned her ex-fiancé David McIntosh, as "a needy insecure man."
The 34-year-old beauty slammed her former lover in text messages to Sarah Harper insisting the 'Gladiators' star - who is rumoured to have cheated on her with Sarah - doesn't deserve either of them.
In the texts to Sarah, 34, Kelly wrote: "I fell out of love with him a while ago. He is a needy insecure man that will never treat a woman right.
"We both deserve better. I'm happy you came forward because he deserves everything that's coming to him."
The Sun newspaper also reports that the heartbroken model ranted about the former Commando - who appeared on 'Celebrity Big Brother' earlier this year - for his incompetence in the kitchen.
She continued: "His cooking is s**t too. I won't miss any of it."
An angry Kelly finished her ranting text messages by describing the 28-year-old hunk as having "Bad clothes, bad dance moves and bad energy."
Despite the insulting comments, David claimed yesterday (28.09.14) that allegations of adultery are completely untrue and he is still in love with Kelly, who he proposed to in March.
In a statement on twitter yesterday, David explained: "I did not cheat on Kelly whatsoever. Kelly is my world and, other than my son, she's the only person I've ever truly cared about in my life."
