Justin Bieber dyed his hair to win back Selena Gomez.
The 20-year-old singer showed off his platinum blonde locks at an event in Glendale, California, over the weekend, and is reported to have made the dramatic change to his trademark style in order to entice his former lover back, as she always wanted him to have lighter hair.
A source revealed: "Selena has been telling Justin to highlight his hair for the past year. He was always resistant to the idea so she thinks it's strange that he would decide to dye his hair now. She's surprised how blonde he went."
The on/off couple broke up earlier in 2014 and the 'Beauty and a Beat' hitmaker has reportedly been desperate to entice his former flame back, despite the gestures failing to impress his 22-year-old ex-girlfriend.
Speaking to HollywoodLife.com, the source added: "Selena thinks Justin is trying to get her attention for sure. But if he wants to get back with her, he needs to try a lot harder than just getting his hair dyed,
"She isn't sure yet if she likes his new hair colour. She just isn't happy that he's made no effort to get in touch with her."
Meanwhile, Justin - who was recently rumoured to be dating model Hailey Baldwin before she denied the claims - has been described as "depressed" regarding his single status as he feels alone without the 'The Heart Wants What It Wants' hitmaker.
A source previously said: "Justin has been really depressed. Nothing he's doing so far to get Selena back is working and it's put him in a really dark place.
"He went to New York for a change of scene to try and find new perspective; he's hoping Selena will come and meet up with him."

Ariana Grande has a "onesie and heels" day to relax.
The 'Break Free' hitmaker loves nothing more than slipping into a comfortable all-in-one pyjamas set when she isn't working.
The 21-year-old pop beauty - who is currently dating 26-year-old rapper Big Sean - shared: "But that's fine, that's OK. As soon as I get home, I'm getting in a onesie! I've even had onesie and heels day. When I throw the heels on with a pyjama moment, I just feel that much better ... Everybody has those days though, so it's totally fine, I don't even mind being seen."
Ariana has revealed a more mature side of herself in her new single 'Love Me Harder' - which features Canadian recording artist The Weeknd - and the songstress is thrilled the watching world is getting to see a different aspect of her personality.
Talking to Will Manning on KISS FM UK, she said: "'Love Me Harder' is a really special one. I've waited so long to show a more serious, darker, mature side of me. I think, partially, because I was a little nervous about it.
"But part of me really just wanted to do that anyway. Just to be like, 'Hey I am an adult, and here is my more adult side.' "
Ariana, whose second studio album, 'My Everything', has been a massive hit this year, revealed she's looking forward to enjoying a traditional Italian family Christmas.
She said: "We have a loud, Italian family, who plays lots of poker. And you know, there's games and gambling, and cooking, and drinking, and festivities, and it's very fun."

Atomic Kitten are taking their babies on tour.
The 'Whole Again' hitmakers - who are set to hit the road next year to celebrate the group's 15th anniversary - have revealed that members Natasha Hamilton, 32, and Kerry Katona, 34, will both be taking their tots with them.
Natasha gave birth to her fourth child, Ella, with her husband, Five singer Ritchie Neville, in September, while Kerry has an eight-month-old daughter Dylan-Jorge with her husband George Kay.
When asked if they would take the youngsters on tour, Kerry - who also has four other children, Molly, 12, Lilly-Sue, 11, Heidi, seven, and Maxwell, six, from previous relationships - said: "The babies more than likely, the other kids no because they've got school - they need stability. They'll come to the gigs in England but flying away, no. It costs too much."
Natasha - who also has Josh, 12, Harry, nine, and Alfie, five, from past relationships - added: "It will be funny - George and Rich doing Kiddie crèche."
Meanwhile, Liz McClarnon is the only member of band yet to have children and prefers to keep the details of her relationship under wraps.
However, the 33-year-old singer confessed she is scared by the idea of having babies and isn't ready to get married just yet.
When asked if being around her bandmates' kids has made her broody, Liz explained: "For about ten minutes when I see a baby girl. It scares me. I'd have to be caught out. I don't think I could plan it."
And on the subject of tying the knot with her mystery man, she said: "Frigging hell, no way, jeez! No, no, no."
The girls decided to go on tour following their successful stint on ITV2's 'The Big Renion' last year.
Natasha said: "We did The Big Reunion and it was a complete success. We saw some of the boybands go off and do their thing and its just what we wanted to do. This year, me and Kezza had babies, so now we can actually do it and we're so excited."

Carrie Underwood's toughest critic is her unborn baby.
The 31-year-old singer is pregnant with her first child, a son, and admitted she feels under pressure to impress the foetus when she sings because he cannot escape if her vocals are bad.
She explained: "I feel like he kind of feels ... he hears me singing whether he would like that or not. I mean, that's what I do, he doesn't have a choice."
The 'Something in the Water' singer - who is expecting the baby with her hockey playing husband Mike Fisher, 34, who she wed in 2010 - said the pressure is especially strong because she feels like the child is always listening.
She added: "I do feel like I have to sing good all the time. Like, if I'm just in my car driving, I feel like I have to make it good because he's listening. He's always in there."
Carrie - who rose to fame after winning 'American Idol' in 2005 - also joked her parents weren't very excited when they found out the star was expecting a child, because her siblings have already had several children of their own.
Appearing on 'The Tonight Show', she said: "I have lots of nieces and nephews so my parents were obviously very happy, but they've heard it all before. They have great grandchildren. I'm slow."

Victoria Beckham fulfils her dreams through the mental technique "creative visualisation".
The former Spice Girls star's eponymous clothing label was named Brand of the Year at the British Fashion Awards last week and she believes her success can be partly attributed to the positive thinking process she adopted to become the "best version of herself".
Speaking to the new UK issue of Grazia magazine, she said: "I had a dream many years ago and I focused and worked hard and I believed in creative visualisation.
"It's about doing what feels right. I'm not trying to be anybody else, I'm just trying to be the best version of myself.
"I want to make women feel good and empower them - as long as they like what I'm doing, I'm happy."
The technique is detailed in Shakti Gawain's book 'Creative Visualisation' - which has sold over six million copies worldwide - and it requires individuals to use mental imagery and affirmation to produce positive changes in their lives.
Victoria - who is married to David Beckham - also admitted the win was so unexpected, she hadn't prepared a speech.
The 40-year-old star added: "It was really emotional because I just wasn't expecting it. Everybody else who got up had notes but no one told me to make any."
And Victoria is hoping her success will inspire others to strive to achieve their dreams.
She said: "Twelve seasons ago who would have thought this possible? Probably no one.
"But this shows, if I can do this, you can do this. If anybody can be inspired by what I've achieved, that's great."

Kieran Hayler cheated on Katie Price with two of her friends because "they were easy and they didn't say no".
The 27-year-old ex-stripper - who married Katie in 2013 - had affairs with both Jane Pountney and Chrissy Thomas, and Kieran claims he cheated on his wife because both women threw themselves at him.
Asked why he chose to sleep with two of Katie's best friends, Kieran said: "Because they were easy and they didn't say no, which made them even worse friends to Katie. They could have said no. They didn't have to come and meet me in the car park, they didn't have to have sex with me, but they both did and they're two of Katie's best friends, so it shows you what type of people they are."
Kieran - who has two children with Katie, 16-month-old son Jett and four-month-old daughter Bunny - has subsequently received treatment for a sex addiction and he's likened both Jane and Chrissy to prostitutes.
In an interview with the new issue of OK! magazine, he said: "The way they describe it in therapy is that they were basically used as prostitutes without paying for them, as bad as that sounds. Seeing a prostitute isn't really fun as you pay for it and you have it. Chasing someone I wasn't able to get was where I got my kicks.
"I had to deal with the c**p after that went on in my head. There were things that happened when I was younger that affected the way I was. There's been addiction in my family, so it ties in."
Asked to elaborate on the reasons, Kieran said: "I'd rather keep that private. I don't think I ever want to talk about it again. I've spoken about it far too much with therapists. I was bullied at school, though, and that's a massive reason why I buffed up when I was older. That's why I got into stripping too, you want to be the bloke who looks good and who women are attracted to, rather than the kid at school being bullied."
Kieran also insisted his affairs were not motivated exclusively by sex, insisting it was the adrenaline rush of doing something illicit that excited him to seek erotic thrills away from Katie, 36.
He revealed: "There are three types of sex addictions - those who like sex, those who like porn and those who like the adrenaline of doing something naughty, and I had the third one. People in the UK think of sex addiction as something laughable and it's not taken seriously but now I know more about it."
Katie also revealed in her mind she has dismissed her wedding to Kieran in the Bahamas in January 2013 and insists the ceremony planned for next month at which they will renew their vows will be their "real wedding day".

Beyonce and Jay Z met the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in New York City last night (08.12.14).
Prince William and Catherine visited the Barclays Center in Brooklyn to watch a basketball game between the Cleveland Cavaliers and Brooklyn Nets, and met up for a chat with the two pop stars between the third and fourth quarters of the game.
The music couple and royal couple were seen laughing and joking during their short get-together and were believed to have discussed the Brits' trip to New York as well as wishing each other well for the festive season.
An insider told People.com: "Jay Z wished Will and Kate 'Merry Christmas' when he was talking to them."
The loved-up couple - who are expecting their second baby in 2015, a sibling for Prince George - dressed casually for the game, with Catherine wrapping up in a grey Tory Burch coat and skinny jeans, while Prince William sported a blue and red plaid shirt.
Another onlooker described the moment Beyonce, 33, and Jay Z, 45, met the couple as a "mob scene".
The source told E! News: "Bey and Jay got up out of their seats during the break before the fourth quarter and walked across the court to say hi.
"Everyone was standing up and gawking. It's a mob scene around them."
William and Catherine - previously known as Kate Middleton - also met with basketball professional player LeBron 'King' James who later gushed about the meeting on his Instagram account.
Along with a picture of them chatting, he wrote: "This very moment will be forever remembered and put up in my house. It's all good and all smiles on this side."
Captioning a second image, he continued: "Wow what an Honor! This game has brought me so much and I'll never take it for granted! The King, "Duke & Duchess. (sic)"
The sports game is one of many events which the couple are visiting during their three day trip to the Big Apple, while Beyonce and Jay Z are busy trying to secure a deal on an estate in Beverly Hills worth $85 million.

Lady Gaga is getting in the festive spirit by decorating a Christmas tree for the first time for six years.
The pop superstar has been busy putting baubles and decorations on her tree and admits she had forgotten how much she enjoyed the Yule Tide tradition.
Writing on her Twitter account, she revealed: "I'm decorating a Christmas Tree myself for the first time in 6 years, so happy. we should never take it for granted the joy it brings!"
Gaga is due to spend Christmas in her native New York with her family, her long-term boyfriend Taylor Kinney and her pet French bulldog Asia.
In the build-up to the holiday season, the 'Applause' singer has already been spoiling her beloved mutt by treating the pooch to a French manicure.
She posted on Twitter: "A French manicure for my baby frenchie! She loves all the compliments pretty girl! (sic)"
Gaga is looking forward to a well-earned break over the Christmas holiday following the conclusion of her mammoth 'ArtRave: The Artpop Ball' world tour.

The country music legend is in discussions to have a film made about her life and she has had a conversation with her "dear friend" Reese about the actress portraying her on the big screen.
Dolly's huge boobs are as synonymous with her as her music and she worries the 38-year-old Hollywood star doesn't have a chest that can match hers, but Oscar winner Reese has come up with a solution.
In an interview on TV show 'Lorraine', the 'Blue Smoke' singer said: "Reese Witherspoon is a dear friend of mine, in fact I was with her last week and we were talking about doing some things together. We were talking about my life story, and I went, 'Well people always say to me, 'Why don't you get Reese Witherspoon (to play you).'' And I always say, 'Her boobs ain't big enough! I think she's too little to rag this around! I wouldn't put that on her.' But Reese said, 'Well, there's padding, I've got enough to do it!' I said, 'Well, we're talk about it.' "
There is also talk of a musical based on Dolly's incredible life and six-decade spanning career and the blonde star insists she's up for her story being told on stage and screen because there's enough "to go round".
