Sam Smith: I needed normality

Sam Smith's throat surgery was the "best thing" to ever happen to him.
The 'Lay Me Down' singer thinks the recent emergency operation on his vocal cords and three weeks recovery was a gift because his life was becoming "insane" and he desperately needed time away from the spotlight.
Sam said: "It's been the best thing that's happened to me ever. I feel like I've been gifted with time. I got to stop for a month and rest, and become normal again and to realise how insanely my life has changed. And in some areas it's changed for the worse."
Sam, 22 - who was ordered to stay at home for three weeks after the op - was grateful to be able to rebuild the relationships in his life.
Speaking to Magic Radio's Jo Parkerson, he said: "Some things are taken away from you, so it was beautiful for me to be able to kind of regain my normality a little bit. Just be with my mum and my dad and my sisters, and remember how to laugh and chat about them and not have to talk about me all the time.
"It got to the point where my mum and dad were being put on guest-lists to see me after shows; they didn't get to spend any time with their son, and that's not normal.
"It's been really tough if I'm honest. There's things that are taken away from you."

Dolly Parton flattered by drag queens

Dolly Parton is "flattered" that there are so many drag queens who dress like her.
The '9 to 5' singer is famous for her bright blonde hair, bold make-up, costume jewellery and bountiful breasts and her unique look has inspired many cross-dressing men to copy her look, something she is pleased by.
She told The Times Magazine: "I have many gay friends and a lot of my business people are gay. I have a huge gay following and there are a lot of Dolly drag queens out there, and I'm always flattered by that."
Dolly, 69, has revealed her style was inspired by the local "trollop" where she grew up in Locust Ridge, near Greenbrier Valley in the Great Smoky Mountains.
The country music legend said: "There's a trollop in every town. We would go to town when I was a little bitty kid. I would see this woman and I thought she was beautiful. She had yellow hair piled on her head, make-up, red-lipstick, long fingernails, high shoes. And I thought, 'That's what I'm gonna be when I grow up.' "

Hulk Hogan defended by pals

Kevin Nash has defended Hulk Hogan after he was sacked by the WWE for using a racial slur.
The 61-year-old wrester - whose real name is Terry Bollea - can be heard in a 2007 sex tape, with the recording made public just last week, using the 'N-word' as he speculated about his daughter sleeping with a black man.
However, 'Magic Mike XXL' actor Kevin, 56, who has known Hulk for years, with the pair even forming the wrestling faction nWo in WCW together, was quick to defend his friend and insist he has never heard him use racial slurs.
Kevin tweeted: "I've spent the last 23 years of my life with Hulk. I've been in the most diverse of situations and never heard Hulk use a racial slur.
"In no way dismissing the remarks.Just looking at the situation. Sex tape thats set up.Tapes that are easily edited. Content that was pushed
"I've watched Hulk do 10,000 make awish greetings. Religion creed or color. Never changed the love he shared.Judge a man put him with a child (sic)."
The recording features Hogan making a string of racist jibes to Heather Clem, a friend's wife whom he was filmed having sex with.
Meanwhile, another wrestler Sean Waltman has suggested that Hulk explain himself on a TV chat show.
He tweeted: "A lot of the white folks jumping on the anti Hogan bandwagon might want to reflect on the racism that we have spewed ourselves.
"It's easy to denounce racism w words. Those words don't erase instilled racism from your heart overnight or at the snap of a finger.
"If I were @HulkHogan I would go on @nightlyshow right away & discuss this in a civil manner(albeit w a lil levity thrown in probably)
"Then I'd get Comedy Central, if they'd do it, to do Comedy Roast of Hulk Hogan & stack the Dais w the most relentless black comedians avail (sic)."
Waltman - known as X-Pac in the ring - previously co-starred in an amateur porn film '1 Night in China' with his ex Joanie Laurer A.K.A wrestler Chyna.
Hogan has a $100 million lawsuit pending against Gawker - the website that leaked his sex tape - for invasion of privacy. It will go to court later this year.

Nick Gordon ‘loved and cared for’ Bobbi Kristina

Nick Gordon "loved and cared" for Bobbi Kristina Brown.
Although Nick, 25, is currently subject to a lawsuit from his late girlfriend's conservators, who accused him of domestic abuse and stealing money, his family insist he has always loved her.
In a statement following Bobbi Kristina's death at the age of 22, six months after she was found unresponsive in a bathtub, Nick's mother Michele Gordon said in a statement to NBC News: "The passing of Bobbi Kristina is devastating to Nick and our family.
"Nick loved and cared for Krissi deeply, and he has suffered greatly each and every day they've been apart. Nick and our family are in mourning, and we ask that you respect our privacy. Our thoughts and prayers are with both the Houstons and the Browns during this difficult time."
Bobbi Kristina is the only child Bobby Brown and the late Whitney Houston had together.
Whitney - who died in 2012 - took Nick in when he was 12 years old and raised him as her own although she never formally adopted him.
Bobbi Kristina and Nick started dating after Whitney's death and even claimed to be married, although it was later revealed that they were not legally wed.
Nick has been accused of physically assaulting his girlfriend and robbing her of thousands of dollars.
In addition, court papers allege Nick misrepresented himself as Bobbi's husband in order to control the aspiring singer and limit her contact with other people.
The documents state: "[Gordon] often answered Brown's personal cell phone, would not allow her to make appointments without his approval, and manipulated her bank relationship so that he could access her money."
According to the lawsuit, Bobbi Kristina had made plans to meet with an unnamed individual on January 31 - the day she was found unconscious - after previously confiding that her boyfriend "was not the man she thought he was" but never made it to the meeting.
Instead, she "became embroiled in a loud argument" with Nick at her house, which ended with her "face down in a bathtub, with her mouth swollen and another tooth knocked out" before later being diagnosed with "global and irreversible brain damage."
No criminal charges have been filed against Gordon.

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner are not rushing to file for divorce.

A source told PEOPLE: "[Garner]'s finishing a film so there hasn't been like, 'Okay, let's get this done now,' because they always were like, 'This is happening and still moving forward.' I don't think they're talking about it.

Brooke and her husband Chris Henchy put their five bedroom, five-and-a-half bathroom property - which is just a few houses away from Ben and Jennifer's home - up for rent last month as they spend most of their time in New York.
It was recently claimed the 'Alias' star and her 42-year-old estranged husband are "playing happy families" for the sake of their children.
A source said: "They both put on their happy faces and don't show any signs of anger or frustration. They definitely play happy family in front of the kids."

Ed Sheeran lands acting role

Ed Sheeran has a recurring role in a new TV show.
The Grammy nominee will take on the part of Sir Cormac, "an ambitious and deadly protégé of a high-ranking church elder", in 'The Bastard Executioner', according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The new FX drama has been created by 'Sons of Anarchy's Kurt Sutter.
It is being billed as a "blood-soaked medieval epic that tells the story of a 14th century warrior whose life is forever changed when a divine messenger beseeches him to lay down his sword and lead the life of a journeyman executioner".
It will also star Stephen Moyer and Katey Sagal
Ed, 24, was a huge fan of biker gang drama 'Sons of Anarchy' and recorded Foy Vance's 'Make It Rain' for the penultimate episode
Although Ed's new role has just been announced, he previously gave some details, saying: "It's a medieval TV show and it's really, really dark. It's gruesome and it's going to be fine because my friend wrote it.
"He had a musician in his last show and I said, 'Oh did he audition for that?' And he said 'No, but I just thought he would be good in it.' So I said, 'Can you put me in your show next?'"

Mariah Carey to receive star on Hollywood Walk Of Fame

Mariah Carey will receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The 45-year-old singer will get the 2,556th star, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce has announced, and it will be unveiled in a ceremony on August 5.
Guest speakers will include directors Lee Daniels and Brett Ratner, along with Epic Records CEO L.A. Reid.
The 'We Belong Together' hitmaker - who has achieved 18 number one singles in the US since the start of her career, more than any other artist - is currently performing at her Las Vegas residency and explained the show has stopped her from starting work on her 15th studio album.
She said: "I haven't started writing my all new album yet. Currently I'm absorbed in making my show, '#1 to Infinity', the most fun for my fans as possible."
However, the star hinted she may be more eager to head back into films instead of music when her residency ends, having previously starred in 2001's commercial and critical flop 'Glitter' and 2009 Oscar-winning drama 'Precious'.
Asked whether she wants to do more films, she told Gay Vegas magazine: "I would love to! I love acting. It's a totally different way for me to express my creativity."

Bobbi Kristina Brown’s autopsy showed ‘no significant injuries’

Bobbi Kristina Brown's autopsy showed "no significant injuries".
The initial postmortem examination was carried out on Monday (27.07.15), the day after the 22-year-old daughter of Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown passed away but the results are inconclusive.
In a statement the Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office said: "The initial portion of the autopsy has been completed.
"The autopsy does not show an obvious underlying cause of death and no significant injuries were noted.
"No previously unknown medical conditions that could have contributed to death were identified. Additional laboratory testing will be performed.
"Subpoenas have been issued to obtain needed documentary information.
"We do not plan to complete the death certificate or determine a cause and manner of death until all test results are completed and all investigative, medical, and other documentary records are received and thoroughly reviewed."
Meanwhile, Bobbi Kristina's funeral will be the "Sweet 16 she never had".
Friends and family are reportedly planning to make the memorial service a celebration of her short life and as she never went to the prom or had a Sweet 16 birthday party, the funeral is expected to take inspiration from the latter, a source told 'Entertainment Tonight'.
She was found unresponsive in a bathtub at her home in Georgia in January and has never regained consciousness.
The funeral is expected to take place this week in Atlanta before Bobbi Kristina's body is brought to New Jersey to be buried with her mother Whitney, who died in 2012.
Whitney is buried next to her father, John Russell Houston, at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield, New Jersey.
