Scott Weiland barely saw his children.
The Velvet Revolver frontman's ex-wife Mary Forsberg Weiland claims her ex-husband - who was found dead in his tour bus last week - was "paranoid" and hardly saw their two children, Noah, 15, and Lucy, 13.
In an open letter, she wrote: "We don't want to downplay Scott's amazing talent, presence or his ability to light up any stage with brilliant electricity. But at some point, someone needs to step up and point out that yes, this will happen again - because as a society we almost encourage it ...
"Many of these artists have children. Children with tears in their eyes, experiencing panic because their cries go unheard ... [He] was a paranoid man who couldn't remember his own lyrics and who was only photographed with his children a handful of times in 15 years of fatherhood."
And Mary went on to insist her children never wanted their dad to be "perfect", but just to put a "little more effort" in.
In the letter for Rolling Stone magazine, she added: "Noah and Lucy never sought perfection from their dad. They just kept hoping for a little effort. If you're a parent not giving your best effort, all anyone asks is that you try just a little harder and don't give up. Progress, not perfection, is what your children are praying for.
"Our hope for Scott has died, but there is still hope for others ... Skip the depressing T-shirt with 1967-2015 on it - use the money to take a kid to a ballgame or out for ice cream."

Kristy Garett will grace Playboy magazine's last ever nude centrefold.
The 25-year-old model will be the last woman to feature nude in the magazine's 12-page editorial spread as Miss February 2016.
Of her appointment, she said: "Playboy has a classic American story, and I want to be a part of it. The lifestyle here, where you're free to express yourself, is my type of life.
"I am proud of the woman I am and have always dreamed of being talked about because of that."
Meanwhile, it was previously revealed that 'Baywatch' star Pamela Anderson had been chosen to grace the front cover of the January/February double issue, after the magazine's publisher Hugh Hefner personally asked her.
She shared: "I got a call from [Hugh Hefner's] attorney who said, 'We don't want anybody else. There's nobody else, could you do the last cover of Playboy?'
"I said, 'Hef just called, he wants me to do the last cover of Playboy,' and he [Brandon; her son] goes, 'Mom you've got to do it. We're older, we're not embarrassed anymore of you. You know, we think you're great.' He was so excited. He may have high-fived me!
"And then I asked Dylan too, and Dylan's like, 'Mom, you know you've done it all.' I don't know what to say but they were really excited for me, and I was excited too."

Joshua Jackson's long-time girlfriend Diane Kruger prefers him to look really bad during his raunchy sex scenes.
The 'Affair' star may have been dating the 39-year-old actress just shy of 10 years, but he has admitted the blonde beauty still struggles to watch her handsome beau get frisky between the sheets with another woman on camera.
Speaking on 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show,' he explained: "I go home and I'm like, 'Babe, I had a great day today. I had sex with two different women and I felt like it went really well.' I think she's a little conflicted on that. She's OK if I look a little schlubby ... Keep the good stuff at home."
However, the revealing scenes aren't easy for the 37-year-old hunk either as he finds it really "awkward" peeling off his clothes in front of the production staff and cameramen.
He explained: "[You're] emotionally naked, physically naked, all sorts of naked. It's one thing for the guys, its awkward certainly. But for women, it puts women in a particularly vulnerable space, so there's all of that stuff that goes into those scenes that you have to work through."
And the conversation between him and his co-stars prior to shooting the sex scenes aren't any easier.
He added: "Here's just the weirdness of a job, a profession where you're like, 'Hi, my name is Josh, we're going to get naked and then we're going to have sex and then we're going to talk about how it feels afterwards. Is that cool? Alright, great let's go.' I mean, that's what I do for a living."

Khloé Kardashian says her new nephew Saint is "perfect".
The 'Keeping Up with the Kardashian' star met her sister Kim Kardashian West and Kanye West's new baby for the first time over the weekend and she is already besotted with tiny tot and couldn't help but brag about his sweet features when she sat down for a live stream with her fans on her website last night (07.12.15).
She said in the short black-and-white video clip: "My little nephew was born he is so cute and so perfect. I love him and mommy and daddy are doing fantastic."
And, although the blonde beauty was thrilled to meet the little one for the first time, she has admitted she was struck with mixed emotions when she stepped into Cedars-Sinai hospital in Los Angeles, where Saint was born, to visit the new bundle of joy as she's spent the last three months dashing back and forth to the medical centre to visit her estranged husband Lamar Odom following his collapse.
She took to her Twitter account over the weekend and tweeted to her fans: "I know these hospital halls way too well. Hopping from one room to another."
Kim and Kanye - who already have two-year-old daughter North together - announced the arrival of their baby son via a joint statement on the reality TV star's website.
However, Saint's birth wasn't easy for Kim as she reportedly suffered from placenta accreta, where the placenta remains attached to the womb, and was forced to deliver him three weeks ahead of her due date on Christmas Day (25.12.15).

Irina Shayk is selling her New York condo for $3.9 million (£2.6 million).
The 29-year-old model, who is dating Hollywood actor Bradley Cooper, looks set to make a nice profit on the plush two-bedroom pad after splashing out $1.96 million on the Perry Street property back in 2010 when she was with superstar soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo.
According to the New York Observer, the shared listing describes the flat as a "seductive" space - but Irina is unlikely to be included.
One thing included in the abode is the wonderful 150ft walk-in closet, and she will no doubt be hoping to have a similar-sized one in her next apartment.
The condo also features spacious 12ft ceilings, oak flooring and a bathroom, plus an additional toilet space.
The Sports Illustrated cover girl's decision to sell up has sparked speculation she could be looking for a place with 40-year-old Bradley.
If the brunette stunner does move in with the movie star, she will be leaving behind some stars of the big screen as her current duplex is close to the homes of actor Hugh Jackman, actress Julianne Moore and fellow model Karlie Kloss.
Irina and Bradley's relationship was recently said to be "getting stronger" after they enjoyed a romantic holiday in Capri, Italy.
A source close to the pair - who started dating in May - said: "Bradley and Irina couldn't be in a happier place in their relationship. They have gotten to know all of the little things about each other during this trip to Italy.
"Their attraction for each other just keeps on getting stronger and they always want to be in each other's corner."

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West wouldn't have been allowed to call their son Saint if they lived in New Zealand.
The little one's moniker features on the country's Department of Internal Affairs list of unacceptable names, so the pair - who also have two-year-old daughter North - would've had to think again if they had moved to New Zealand from the US.
According to New Zealand Herald newspaper, the department doesn't allow any names which imply a child has a title or a rank.
This rules out Saint - who was born on Saturday (05.12.15) - as well as monikers Prince, Princess, Majesty, Duke, Special Constable and Justice, all of which were rejected in the country last year.
Other religious names turned down by the department include Christ, Lucifer, Messiah, Christ and Bishop.
Kim, 35, confirmed her and Kanye, 38, had named their newborn yesterday (07.12.15).
Alongside several emojis, she tweeted: "SAINT WEST (sic)"
But one Twitter user unknowingly got there first when it came to tweeting Saint's name.
The social networker correctly predicted the showbiz power couple would call their baby Saint - six months before he was born.
In a tweet posted on June 22, 2015, which has been retweeted more than 117,000 times and received over 90,000 'likes' after going viral, the tweeter wrote: "watch kanye name his kid "saint" or some stupid s**t (sic)"
Kim and Kanye are said to have opted for the name Saint for their little one because he is a "blessing" after a "difficult pregnancy".
The reality TV star gave birth to her son almost three weeks before her due date on Christmas Day (25.12.15).

Noel Gallagher is looking forward to getting a "highly worthwhile cheque" thanks to Aurora's cover of his 'Half The World Away' for this year's John Lewis Christmas advert.
While the High Flying Birds frontman is slightly dismayed the Oasis track will always be "synonymous" with the festive season after it was used in the department store's 'Man On The Moon' TV campaign, he is looking forward to getting a healthy boost to his bank balance.
Introducing the song during a live acoustic performance for BBC Radio 2 in London on Monday (07.12.15), he told the crowd: "Now I'm going to sing you a song that will forever be synonymous with Christmas from now on and, as is well known, it's not my favourite time of year. Having said that, at least it comes with a cheque, which, believe me, is highly worthwhile."
The quick-witted guitarist then added: "And don't go buying me John Lewis vouchers for Christmas, trying to be a smart a**e, inside a card that says 'Noel'."
Noel will rake in thousands of pounds for allowing his track to be used from an initial payment by John Lewis and in royalties from sales of Aurora's cover and public plays of the tune - which was first released as a B-side to 'Whatever' in December 1994 and peaked at number three in the UK charts.
'Half The World Away' was also used as the title track for British sitcom 'The Royle Family'.
During his acoustic set, Noel played a mixture of Oasis classics and rarities such as 'Wonderwall', 'Slide Away', 'Sad Song' and 'Listen Up' and songs from his solo career including 'If I Had A Gun...' and 'The Death of You and Me'.
He was joined for the intimate concert at the BBC Radio Theatre by former Oasis guitarist Gem Archer who he described as "my former right-hand man, who is now my left-hand man".

Denise Van Outen has been given a "quickie" divorce in 90 seconds from her husband of six years Lee Mead.
The 41-year-old beauty - who split from the 34-year-old actor in 2013 - was granted the divorce at London's Central Family Court on Tuesday (8.12.15) but neither parties attended.
According to MailOnline, the divorce ruled by District Judge Heather MacGregor was given on the grounds that their relationship had broken down and the couple have not lived together in two years, which Denise confirmed in a statement and Lee didn't disagree.
The couple have also vowed to remain "great friends" for the benefit of their five-year-old daughter Betsy.
The couple tied the knot in the Seychelles in April 2009 after a whirlwind 18-month romance.
Lee first met Denise in 2007 when she was a judge on TV talent show 'Any Dream Will Do', in which he competed and went on to win the leading role in popular West End production 'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat'.
Speaking about their relationship last month, the TV presenter said she didn't regret marrying the star.
She said at the time: "I've no regrets about getting married to Lee at all. He's such a lovely person. There was no big fall-out and we got each other through [the split], really. We're friends, so we supported each other."
Denise is currently dating city trader Eddie Boxshall, who she met in 2014.
