Shobna Gulati ‘recovering’ after stage incident

Shobna Gulati is recovering at home after being hit by falling scenery during a performance of play ‘Richard II’.
The former ‘Coronation Street’ actress has assured fans she is being "wonderfully cared for" by her son, Akshay Gulati, 24, after she was said to have been "lying on the stage motionless" following the incident at the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse at Shakespeare’s Globe in central London.
She tweeted: "Thank you so much for all your messages. I’m recovering at home and being wonderfully cared for by my son, my #RichardII family and the team @The_Globe. (sic)"
The 52-year-old star is hoping to be fit enough to return to the stage later this week.
She wrote: "I’ll let you know when I’m back on stage, but hopefully it’ll be this week! (sic)"
The incident occurred last Thursday (28.03.19), resulting in the Friday (29.03.19) and Sunday (31.03.19) afternoon performances being cancelled.
An audience member told the London Evening Standard: "I just heard this loud bang and there was the actor lying on the stage motionless. It was about five or 10 minutes after the interval and suddenly there was this tremendous bang.
"There was a lot going on on the stage. It was only when we heard this bang that we realised she seemed to have been knocked out. Nobody moved. Then [Andoh] playing Richard II came out, she took control.
"It was pretty shocking. She certainly didn’t seem conscious when we left the theatre."
A spokeswoman for theatre said: "Shobna Gulati was injured during a performance of ‘Richard II’ on 28 March, but is recovering well at home. An investigation is under way. Shobna hopes to return to the role this week."
Shobna played ‘Corrie’ character Sunita Alahan from 2001 to 2006, and returned to the cobbles for a second stint from 2009 to 2013.
